To Dance with Dakinis: In Search of Self

Rate this book
As with all of Dena Merriam's books, To Dance with Dakinis is a study of the universal law of cause and effect, how events in our life, our deeds, thoughts and reactions impel the process of rebirth. The story begins in 12th century Tibet, with a woman's search for the Goddess and the deeper truths of life. A crisis that she encounters leads her to a great Master who helps awaken memories of her previous life in medieval France and a much earlier life in China, during which events were set in motion that led her to the crisis she now faced. The book follows her through death, the time between earthly rebirths and then her rebirth in India, where she brings to conclusion unfinished matters from her life in Tibet. In the process of her journey, great teachings are conveyed, teachings that we can all apply to our lives today.

I wanted to comment on this book though I am not yet finished.

It is a very long story about a woman who lived a very long time ago in a far away place (Tibet).

I have read Dena's other books about her past life memories, and I must say that each book delves further into questions of religion, faith, spiritual belief and spiritual practice.

This book makes a connection between the ancient teachings, which in Tibet are called Bon, Hinduism - nearly as ancient, Buddhism - which was quite popular at the time of this story, and Christianity.

Dena remembers in Tibet a society full of truth seekers, monks and spiritual adepts. While many were falling prey to the divisive pressures that came with each new teacher and each new interpretation of the teachings, the wiser ones - as Dena remembers it - remained convinced that all faith springs from a common source.

Even in the time of 12th century Tibet, "magic" was known and practiced. While the true capabilities of the human spirit were not explicitly shared with the general population, there remained a belief that if one devoted oneself, on could attain considerable spiritual knowledge and ability. In those days, it seems, this was still valued. It should still be today, which I think is one reason Dena has bothered to write these books.

Reading this book will acquaint you with many religious and spiritual fundamentals, while entertaining you with a story of one exceptional woman, as assisted by many others. You owe it to yourself to allow Dena to tell you this story.

I got detailed understanding about how strong desires in each life unfolds events in next life and how past life events and people shape your future lives. The most enjoyable part for me is the life between lives, it is just wonderful and reread numerous times digesting each detail.

My gratitude to author for introducing me to new concepts like experience of Shiva, how to live in Bharat/India mindset, how humiliation is nothing but a blessing, how to look for god inside, how love is a state of being, etc.
