Jesse is on the run from a private security company. While raising cash, with the help of a black marketer, in Cologne, Germany, his plans are thrown into the wind when a beautiful social worker shows up at his door asking for protection from a group of traffickers that she rescued two children from. Should he do the right thing and help the children? If he stays he will be raising flags and revealing his location to the security goons hunting him.

About the author

K.R. Hill is a mystery/thriller author. He left the states at a young age to satisfy a need for adventure. During a decade of travel he harvested apples in Switzerland, taught English in Germany, lived on a kibbutz in Israel, traveled atop supply trucks across Sudan, and lived in an abandoned house beside the Caribbean, where he daily spear-fished for food. While abroad, he wrote several novels and sold travel articles.

This story is not for the faint of heart. There are violent murders, torture, and rape which are part of the nature of the story.

There are several plots which come together as different sets of individuals including the local police are looking for Jesse O’Brian and his friend Bartholomew Thornton. They deal in the sale of black market items. Bart has some stolen Roman coins he is trying to sell that are wanted by many people. Jesse is being pursued by members of “The Company” that he used to work for. Then an old assassin is brought back and enters the search for Jesse and Bart. There is a lot of action and suspense as the hunt is on.

Exciting thriller. I did not want to stop reading as each page was more tantalizing than the previous. Thoroughly enjoyed the weaving of the characters, the conflicts of morality, and the final outcome. Keep writing though I do not know if the author can top this one.

Fast paced with some truly odd characters. Bitter sweet ending in a realistic view of black market antiquities. Jesse and Barthlomew are the quintesensial complicated good guys.

I received this book for free from Goodreads Giveaways. The pacing was good, the characters well developed and the bad guy was a real monster. I enjoyed this story and the way the characters connected with each other.
