Bob Rankin has been around online and in print since the mid 1990's. He's done radio, probably TV, and has a couple of websites worth their weight in gold as far as knowledge and tips about computing, hardware, software, and the rest of the stuff we covet in the digital age. I like his straight forward, no BS style. He knows what he's talking about and is an authentic expert.
FREE SOFTWARE speaks to anyone who is still buying expensive programs to run their home or moderately sized business computer needs. The book is available for Kindle, very inexpensively. It's a pretty quick read, nothing heavy. Bob gives you an explanation of $5200 worth of common software, shows you what it all does and why you might or might not want it. Then he shows you how to do the same jobs free or close-to-free with well-vetted freeware, shareware, and opensource programs. You still buying MS office? You might want to read about Open Office or Libre Office and see what you've missed. I love this guy.
Downloaded this ebook for free, to see what kind of stuff I wasn't already aware of. I've already got most of the software the author mentions, so I felt pretty validated in my own search abilities. ;)
Would love to see a companion featuring the best free apps for iPad and iPhone!
