In July of 2002, Robert's first work for another company began, with a 4-part SuperPatriot series for Image, along with Battle Pope backup story artist Cory Walker. Robert's creator-owned projects followed shortly thereafter, including Tech Jacket, Invincible and Walking Dead.

4.25 stars this time around, so I'm changing it to 4☆. It was going SO good until Earth drama got in the way. I mean, up until Eve and the Guardians of the Globe started appearing. Those characters looked so insignificant compared to the main storyline that I just had to take one star off my original rating.
There's also the issue of having Mark be infected by the new strain of the deadly virus, and well, apparently he recovered in one day!

All the family drama that happened the first half of this volume though? Nolan reconnecting with Debbie, Oliver going against Nolan. Nolan deciding to stand up for earth and then having Mark be infected by Oliver's actions *chef's kiss*

Original review from 2016:

THIS WAS SO GOOD!
Last volume was the first time I didn't enjoy reading Invincible, but Kirkman delivered once again and it was amazing. This was what I wanted last time, the aftermath of the Viltrumite War.

Nolan's back in Talescria and brings the news of the ''end'' of the war. Allen is conflicted, he must think as a leader and put the lives of millions before anything else, even if that means sacrificing an entire planet and his most valuable friendship and partnership. Also, Mark is not doing so well after rescuing Dinosaurus and being declared a traitor. Conflict arise between Invincible and the Guardians and things get worse when Allen and Oliver come to earth armed with a biological weapon.
Guys, really, this was great. It was surprising, action-packed, exciting and funny. It is not my favorite volume in the series, but is easily in my top 5.

First two issues were solely focused in Nolan and what happens in Talescria and it felt classic Invincible. The family dynamic, the jokes, the violence. It was a great, strong beginning for a volume that keeps surprising and delivering a compelling story.

I just love this title.

There were a few details here and there that I wasn't a fan of, I mean, what's the deal with Bulletproof? And once again Eve's storyline, or lack of, in this volume. Gotta admit, her line while she was arguing with Mark " I have a whole life of my own, you know'' had me laughing. Seriously << Footage not found >>

There's a new storyline being introduced regarding Mark's ancestors and that's quite an interesting new direction for the series. Can't wait to see what happens next.

Overall, this is a great volume and solid installment in the series. Kirkman has a way of keeping the story fresh so this volume does not disappoint.

The repercussions of the Viltrumite war continue leading to brother vs brother and the coming of Thragg! By now the creative knows that it is the blood, guts and gore fights that resonate with readers as much as the plotting, so that's what we get. 8.5 out of 12.

Twist after twist. It’s really hard to see who is a friend or an enemy.

I mean, sure, this IS the kind of thing we love to expect in marvel or DC, but this is Image! Ok. Never mind. My bad!

At least it’s done WELL. ;)

And honestly, I’m loving it. Dino dude rocks.

This actually made me sad. Because my four favorite characters were at war with each other.

This mostly focuses on Allen having to make a huge decision. No spoilers, because if you read the last 15 volumes, you'd know that he now holds the answer to get rid of all of Mark's race of people (I can't spell their damn names) and with that he tries to tell Nolan. Of course he doesn't think it's the way, especially with the fact it might KILL every goddamn human on the planet. So Oliver agrees with Allen and they go that way to take it out.

The big twist, or moment is fucked up. But it isn't till the last few pages your heart really begins to race. It's last minute but it feels so "OH SHIT" moment you're left with "Well what the fuck now?" that I loved it.

Invincible being this strong 16 volumes later is truly why this is in my top 5 of all times for comics.

SCORE: 90| A
TRIGGERS: graphic violence
REVIEW: This series really knows how to keep up momentum. This read was absolutely gripping and very morally conflicting for me as a reader. The characters I have grown attached to and supported in the past are at odds with each other in this volume, and it's really hard to choose a side. I also found myself liking and agreeing with characters I previously hated which shows how well most of them are written (not you Amber, not you).

Allen decides to carry out his plan and release the Scourge virus and he goes against Nolan first and then Mark and seems like Oliver is on his side and their fight is brutal until Mark is exposed to it and so it becomes a quest to save Marks life. On one hand you got General Thragg and on the other there is Cecil and the humans and so there is a whole load of plans and betrayals and secrets being kept and done and its becoming an epic drama and then there is the case of the new guy who becomes Invincible and then great stuff with Atom Eve and Mark and Dinosaurus in the end just wow. Loved this volume and the art is so much better here.

The perfect redemption arc.

Hearing a love letter to earth from a character who tried to conquer it once… was great. It’s been a long way since then and I think he is finally redeemed. The parallels to past battles were great and former Allies and friends choosing different sides in a conflict worked really well here, because every characters decision made sense. Love the plot twists here and the mistery. Dinosaurus vs thragg was awesome.
I don’t really like the new invincible thing they do here. It just feels unnecessary and I don’t think it evolves into something interesting.
This volume is also the perfect aftermath for the invincible war.

Invincible is the best superhero comic book in the universe.

When Mark's father, Nolan, returns to Talescria with the news that the last Viltrumites have settled on Earth, Allen (now "Grand Allen" of the Coalition of Planets) knows what he has to do. Armed with a modified version of the Scourge virus, he heads to Earth to exterminate them. Nolan, Mark and eventually the Viltrumites themselves try to stop him, but in the skirmish, Mark is infected. Although it does not kill him, Mark has to be hospitalized and carefully monitored. Dinosaurus remains by his side the whole time, and saves him from more Viltrumite treachery. Meanwhile, Allen regrets his decision and tries to come with terms with nearly having been responsible for the deaths of billions of innocent people.

I don't think Allen's constituents are going to be happy with him either way. I guess he can at least tell them that he tried to do the "right" thing (as they see it). Dinosaurus is turning out to be quite the asset - brilliant AND extremely powerful. Good thing he's on "our" side? Have they really managed to isolate the virus and is it really as ineffective as they think? Time will tell.

It surprises me that I have read 16 volumes of Invincible now and yet to give a single volume a bad review , and the trend continues here .

I am not going to repeat how good the art work is , because it's been consistently good this far into the volume for everyone to assume that it will be consistently good in here and future titles .

The plot was so good on so many levels , with the status quo of many characters turned upside down . Many of the good peoples turned a bad turn , some bad guys turned good and we even saw some changing family Dynamics between Mark and Eve .

I was a bit disappointed with the lack of battle between Oliver and Mark and Mark and Allen , after a strong build up . And the whole heritage of Mark thing was a bit on the nose . But it still created a good opportunity for future plots .

In the end , another stellar issue , and honestly it's the best comic book series I have been reading for the past one and half year . I just need to find more easy access to purchase the future volumes

After last volume, Mark decides that maybe being "Invincible, the superhero" isn't all it's cracked up to be. Maybe there's more than just punching villains! Maybe he can work behind the scenes, use science and diplomacy, to do stuff? And at this same time Allen, with the new-and-improve Scourge virus, also thinks that science is the way to save the universe- no diplomacy, though, just gassing Earth and everyone on it to kill all the Viltrumites. There's a new Invincible, Mark is re-evaluating his role, and some family in-fighting as Oliver, Nolan, and Mark all have differing views (not to mention Debbie and Eve trying to hold everything together). This really is a new phase for Invincible, with some revelations and twists that are sure to change the whole direction of the series. This isn't just "post-Viltrumite War", Kirkman isn't resting and is setting up a new ongoing plot to fuel a series that spent so much time building up to the Viltrumite War and left me wondering what it was going to do after that was done.

Invincible Vol. 16 Family Ties collects issues 85-90 of the series by Robert Kirkman with art by Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley.

More aftermath from the Viltrumite War! When Allen discovers the Viltrumites are hiding on Earth, he decides to unleash the Scourge Virus which will kill all the remaining Viltrumites. Only there is a catch - it will also kill every human. Now Mark and Nolan must try to convince Allen that the Viltrumites and humans are worth saving.

This arc saw the return of Cory Walker to draw the first two issues. The art overall in this series is great, especially the splash pages and the epic battles. This arc had a large standoff that was extremely intense. Dinosaurus is really growing on me as well. He has such a cool design!

Some cool plot advancements, but wtf were they thinking with Bulletproof bro, fuck that guy😭 basically every character was extra annoying this volume for some reason besides my girl Eve and of course Mark, and maybe Nolan and Debbie too.

Great volume. Some really interesting and unexpected stuff happened in this one. I'm intrigued to learn more about what exactly makes Mark so special in the eyes of Thragg. There are hints but I believe they haven't revealed the full picture yet, though I may be wrong.

Earth: threat or menace? The last of the imperialist Viltrumites are hiding out on Earth. Invincible's dad Nolan thinks this will change them as it did him, teach them to love &c; Invincible's brother Oliver thinks this improbable given humans are mostly assholes. Cue speeches, also punching, and a few surprise developments. Probably the best soap opera in superhero comics; I wish the Big Two would still allow lovely long runs like this, rather than constantly chopping and changing.

A good comic series. Nice plot and art. The stories are a little more graphic and adult than the ones I started off reading in the 1960s but still not as bad as many of the ones that today's comics have turned into. The stories remind me of reading the good solid fun comic books of the older Marvel and DC era of the 1960's but undated to today's world. Recommended

Superheroes done right. Kind of burned out on the Viltrumite stuff but it seems to be taking an interesting turn. This book could be just Mark and Eve and I would be happy lol.
