I adored this book! I honestly could not put it down. Great flow, kept me wanting for more and it was a believable story line. Hope there are more stories to come :)
A very sweet love story ... filled with likable, endearing characters and a romantic series of events that keep the reader engaged until the very end. Highly recommend it!
I picked this book up when it was free and quickly forgot I had it. After reading a slew of Christmas books this holiday season, I was looking for a cute read to cleanse my proverbial palate, but this book ended up leaving me with a bit of a "sour taste in my mouth". The book was good, but only up to a point. The focus is more on the people than on the bakery side of the heroine's life, in fact it seemed as though the bakery was thrown in as an afterthought. For it to be *spoiler alert* such a linchpin in the development of the relationship between the hero and heroine, I felt it needed to take a much bigger role in the story. Maybe the customers are special in some way, but we never get to see that. *end alert* The reader is never given many details into the character's lives, we're given flat, static reasons as to why the character is this way and they are almost clinical in their detachment from the emotions that made them into the people they are today. This makes it slightly difficult to connect to the characters, at least to this reader's mind. *possible spoiler alert* The relationship is fast paced, but believable, especially to this reader, having re-discovered my own high school sweetheart relationship. However, the ending was very rushed and skipped over many key details that I would have liked to see explained. For example, what happened to Kara's things like furniture, since one can only assume she moves in to Jason's townhouse? Does she keep the extra help on at the bakery? How well were her new creations received upon her return to Austin? Do they eventually get pregnant? *end possible spoiler alert* Answers to these questions may have tied the ending up a bit better. In the end, I wanted to enjoy this book, but really had to struggle to finish it, ending with the desire to delete it from my Kindle and not read it again. Seems a shame, since it did have a good bit of potential going for it.
And I am somehow divided by it. I love the meet-cute...or in this case, remeet-cute. The MCs went to the same high school and were reunited years later in the ER (of all places). She did not recognize him at first, but after both acknowledged that they knew each other, their romance immediately blossomed. Their romance apparently is a whirlwind, but sadly, it was more turbulent than exhilarating for me. There were more cheesy moments, and the hero I think is too good to be true (your archetypal cinnamon roll). Not to mention, the steamy parts were too much for me I forced myself to browse through them if I wanted to finish this book and move on. Nonetheless, if you want to get a glimpse of what a whirlwind, fluffy romance looks like, you may want to try this.
This book has 23 chapters. The author clearly stopped caring in chapter 7. SEVEN. Most of what happens is this super boring, "And then they exchanged Christmas presents. And then they went to Florida." It's like the author stopped caring. AFTER SEVEN CHAPTERS. If the author herself doesn't care, then why the hell should the readers?
The errors were pretty annoying too. Yes, I do understand how a book can still have errors, but they got annoying. After I finished reading, I noticed there was an update, so perhaps that changed.
Also, this book was filled with endless blaberring.
This started off really well but lost me in the last 15%. They get their HEA but it sort of dragged on. Once their issues are resolved we then stay with them for the remaining chapters only to watch what they've decided to do actually happen. And to be a fly on the wall for them to discuss having children - it wasn't like it was a conflict between them, it was basically "I think you should stop taking the pill" "You want to try to have a kid?" "I don't want to prevent it, if it happens then it happens". I think this story would have benefitted from ending sooner rather than as late as it did. It was obvious it only kept going so the characters could be given the happiest ending possible. I did still enjoy it for the most part though.
DNF. Kate Baker likes her doc. Doc has stalker-ish ER receptionist he doesn't handle (a stilted storyline add) and way too much discussion about a high school ex. Oh, and the main character? Kate Baker is a baker.
Just not my thing.

OK, two days in and I'm giving up. Granted, this is doing wonders for my ability to sleep at night, so if I get another bout of insomnia, I might pick it up again. The premise is a cute one and I expected this to be the kind of chick lit that I like. However, the characters are flat, the dialog is high school level, and I just feel Blah about the whole thing. Perhaps my disappointment in what I thought was going to be a light-hearted filler book is making me harsher than the book deserves, but I doubt it.
The usual modern romance, but quite well written. Plot was decent and definitely a fun summertime read. I thought there were actually too many sex scenes, but probably just because I'm used to ZERO and this book had around five (?? I wasn't counting). I'm really surprised to see this book averages OVER 4 stars on Goodreads...what? I am guessing that this book really hits the mark well for what it is, and that is the main source of enthusiasm.
During the last month (or more) I have been looking for a light, fun book.
This was not really my kind of book, and therefore I will not give a rating. It would not be fair.
Some may wonder why I don't quit reading a book if it is not "for me." In a nutshell, unless a book is extremely violent, misogynistic, bigoted, hedonistic, or badly written, I find it hard to stop reading. I want to know what happens to the characters.
