It was great to see a wide range of bears in That's Not My Bear - the polar bear, koala bear and panda illustrated in particularly adorable ways. Even though this is one of the earlier That's Not My... books it's still brilliant, proving that they've been doing this particular style of board book perfectly since the beginning.
A wonderful read from my childhood, one I’d certainly suggest for other youngsters. Whilst it is not my all-time favourite childhood read I can still recall all the details of this one meaning it certainly left a lasting impression upon my young mind.
And isn’t that what we want with children’s books, for them to leave a positive lasting impression?
That's not my bear. That's the theme of this book and the other books in this series follow the same type of response. Each 2 page spread of this book explains why the bear featured on the page cannot be "my bear" and provides the reader the opportunity to have a textual feeling to attach to that explanation. An example: "That's not my bear. It's tongue is too scratchy." Now, the reader can feel the bear's tongue where it is bumpy and scratchy. Each 2-page spread is different highlighing a different part on the bear until you get to the last couple pages and then, surprise! guess who is there?
I like that these books are bright and the illustrations are friendly and large. The text is large, simple, yet it gives your little one the opportunity to learn some great words and where things are located (scratchy, fuzzy, fluffy, shiny, squishy, soft, tongue , paws, nose, ears, claws, body, and paws). There is also a mouse on each of the 2-page spreads and children like to find him. I highly recommend this series.
That's Not My Bear by Fiona Watt is an absolutely adorable sensory book! It's an extremely quick read, but one that young children would love!
Each of the pages features something on the bear that the child can touch; soft paws, scratch tongue, shiny claws, and more.
My only very small gripe with this one was that one panda bear is too fuzzy, but then the "my bear" ends up being another Panda. I personally think this would have worked better if they had featured a different bear. That, or feature a couple of the same bears, so the panda wasn't the only duplicate (unless you count the cover...). But perhaps I'm being too picky :)
Definitely a fun, quick read! I would recommend this one if you're looking for a book for a young child.

That's Not My Bear... tells the story of someone trying to find the right bear.
This book was made for younger readers, equipped with various textures and touch surfaces as someone tries to find the right bear. The illustrations are adorable and teach the reader about different species of bears.
This book has great sensory words and is great for babies. Also, the touchy-feely pages help interest children in books. This book is very high quality and very durable. Check out my page to purchase this book: www.ubah.com/s2995
Love Usborne books! These touch/feel board books are great for babies and toddlers. My 3 year old still loves them. We've almost worn them out - which is hard to do considering how durable they are.
Fiona Watt has a whole series of "That's Not My" board books that are filled with different textures to feel and a search for the child's toy (that's revealed on the last page). Check out this great series. Janet Baby Books/W
Typical simple touch and feel book. This one was maybe better than others? The kids enjoyed them, but at this point I feel a bit overkill with them. I think they are using the same sentences in some. lol
This is really a baby book, with different textures on each page. I live in hope that the repetition of the same words will eventually help my 4-year-old learn to read.
