Shungiku Nakamura (中村春菊 Nakamura Shungiku?, born December 13,1980) is a Japanese yaoi manga artist. She is most famous for creating Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance. Shungiku Nakamura's distinct style of manga has been identified largely throughout Japanese and English yaoi fanbases. Her works usually include large age gaps between the seme and uke and characters with careers in the publishing industry (as depicted in Junjo Romantica and Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi). She often cowrites with Fujisaki Miyako, who authored the novels of Yoshino Chiaki no baai in Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi.
Works: Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance (2002 - Ongoing) "Junjou Mistake" (2008) Hybrid Child (2003 - 2004) Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi (2007 - Ongoing) "√W.P.B." (2004) "Touzandou Tentsui Ibun" (1998 - 1999) "Mangetsu Monogatari" "Tsuki wa Yamiyo ni Kakuru ga Gotoku" (1999) "Picturesque of a Mask" (art only) "Umi ni Nemuru Hana"
Ugh best volume yet! An-chan realizes Onodera may be in love with his neighbor and there is ALMOST a reveal, but of course, we have to wait for that. I loved the birthday chapter as well and in this volume, we got a chapter from Yukina's POV which was soooo cute. I just love this manga so much<3
That's right it only took me 2 days to read the Japanese version. That's how good these are. Honestly I remember the first Onodera chapter and the Yukina chapter but not the other one. I'm not sure if I've read past this point before. It's very exciting.
Onodera/Takano- Onodera gets closer to a complete break with An-chan after she comes to see him and realizes he's in love with his neighbor. Takano takes Onodera through a set of Sakura blossoms on his birthday, a bit of a reminiscence of their time together in high school. Cute and fluffy, plot-advancing, but nothing earth-shattering.
Kisa/Yukina- I LOVE this scene between these two. Yukina is struggling at school- a teacher tells him his art doesn't "say" anything, essentially that it's all fluff. Meanwhile Kisa gets sick but repeatedly refuses Yukina's offers of help. Yukina finally just shows up one day. It turns out Kisa feels that, being older, he shouldn't depend on Yukina. He knows if he starts letting himself do this, he'll want to do so more and more and more. Yukina makes Kisa understand that he WANTS them to depend on each other and that they have to put aside the differing prides that come with their respective ages. In addition Kisa points out that Yukina never complains, so his recent voiced concerns about school had him worried. This is so key- Kisa is still learning how to love, having previously only engaged in physical relationships, and this is such a pivotal moment for him. Love love love. Yukina finally paints Kisa-san with emotion that can't be denied, leading to at least minimal approval from his instructor.
Ritsu is slowly starting to come around. I love this series. It's funny and cute. The art style bothers me sometimes, but it's not too bad. I look forward to every new installment in this series.
A part of me thinks "get together already!" But the climax (no pun intended) is always sweeter when you have to work to get there.
We get a bit more of Kisa and Yukina, too. It's always fun when the story is about more than one couple.
If you have been following this series, grab this latest one! If you haven't and you're a BL fan, start reading it now!
How could I not just be in total love with everything about Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi? And this is all fresh material too, I've never read or seen it before (it might be a part of the movie that just recently came out this year though, I'm going to watch it once I catch up with the manga, or when the flow hits me). All of this volume was so sweet and made my heart flutter and melt, and I laughed and smiled so many times while reading it. The birthday and cherry blossom and An-chan chapters were so sweet, so, so sweet. There was hardly any bitter in it, only enough to raise stakes and build tension and make it realistic. It's all like a sweet dream under a cherry blossom tree. I love seeing them cuddle, I love seeing them do all the things they do, they're both just so lovable on their own but even more so together. And I'm happy we finally got a chapter from Yukina's POV too! I kept finding myself having to get used to it (my mind kept thinking it was a Kisa chapter), but I just loved it so much and I can really see their relationship developing as Kisa opens up more and both of them learn better communication skills. And as their love deepens, grows, and matures, they just fall more and more in love and come more and more to terms with the fact they can't see each other parting ways for good in the future, ever. And Kisa's concerns about wanting to take care of Yukina because he's the elder and trying to do his best at it, not to mention him not wanting to let his wall down for no reason other than the fact that he knows he's gonna be spoiled ROTTEN, just warms my heart to its pique. All of it, everything in this volume for both relationships just completes me for a little longer and warms me from the inside out. I love it all immensely, and it really helps me reflect on my life too when I think about it later on. Or at the very least, it gives me something sweet to chew on, something I won't forget, as everything in Sekai Ichi Hatsukoi has always imprinted itself deeply in me.
How hasn't Onodera not fallen completely in love with Takano yet? I just don't get it! When Onodera got a call informing him that something was wrong with his mother Takano brought him to the hospital. When he got there An-Chan was there and after witnessing a moment between Onodera and Takano she was able to figure out what they were to each other. Takano was incredibly considerate to him and on his birthday Takano showed an even softer vulnerability that would have melted away anyway resistance left in anyone. Onodera is the only exception for some reason.
We also get a a story from Yukina's point of view. His relationship with Kisa is so strange to me. They love each other so much and yet they can't seem to get it together. The problem definitely lies more with Kisa than Yukina but I'm pretty confident that they'll work through whatever it is they're going through. I used to want their relationship to work for Kisa's sake but after seeing how Yukina feels I want it just as much for him as well.
3 stars. Well, at least Onodera was somewhat honest with his fiancée. This was also probably the most romantic he and Takano have been so far, which isn’t a high bar but still. I’m torn because I like their offbeat casual/intense vibe but I’m not not cool with how unhappy Onodera seems during sex sometimes. It’s better than it was (it only took 7 goddamn books), I guess. Whatever.
4.5 stars. On a positive note, Kisa and Yukina are my absolutely favorites. Which means the author will taper them off and introduce a worse couple soon to take up any time that the main couple doesn’t. I know how this goes. Yukina has kind of a cute jealousy going on that isn’t harmful, Kisa doesn’t have to fix it for him, and it’s a bit funny at times. I liked that even when Kisa saw a girl confess her feelings to Yukina he didn’t get angry. Also it was cute when he wasn’t feeling well and Yukina went to take care of him (his intentions were good but he was a little overwhelming!).
Ah this volume was so cute. I'm going to be a broken record in saying this. This volume focuses on Ritsu's viewpoint with his relationship with Masamune, and Yukina's viewpoint with his relationship with Kisa.
I felt like the plot of this volume made the relationships shown become more developed. Ritsu is becoming more accepting of his feelings towards Masamune, even though he won't say them to him, and Yukina and Kisa are starting to move towards the stage of living together.
I am intrigued to see what will happen next because I can't guess what obstacles will come in the way for Ritsu and Masamune right now. Most of the obstacles, bar Ritsu confessing his feelings, have been avoided.
Okay, anyone that has seen my reviews for this series is probably sick if me hyping this up the ass, but it is my all time favorite manga now, I just adore it so much.
Onodera's story was angsty as always. It was his birthday and Tankao wanted it make it a good day for him. And UGH the whole running storyline throughout this volume about Ritsu getting this look on his face when he's with Takano that he doesn't get with anyone else KILLED ME.
And of course I am head over heels in love with Kisa's storyline but finally getting a chapter in Yukinas point of view was so refreshing and precious and I just love them so much!!
It-- it almost seemed like Onodera was getting somewhere in facing his feelings? Is this possible?
I liked the chapter from Yukina's perspective; his view of himself and his internal perception of the relationship with Kisa is very different from how it has seemed from outside!
I absolutely loved it! This is the first volume in the series I've read, and it pretty much continues on from where the anime left off. I can't wait to read the remaining volumes in the series and hopefully get the conclusion I always longed to see in the anime.
The last volume was where the anime ended so it was refreshing to read material that was new to me. I'm interested to see where Yokozawa's story arc goes.
Two of the characters are drawn so similarly that it took me a while to realize that there were 2 different stories happening here ...duh! Also, the one story isn’t being played out in every book.
Oooohhh i love that it’s a good being there situation!! Just shows up for Ritsu !! Heck yes!!! And the birthday scene !! So cute !! And KISA … I think things are finally working out them !!!!
