Do the Fey exist? In Grace’s world they do, but she doesn’t know it yet.

An unsuspecting Grace thinks she is utterly ordinary ignoring the fact that odd things happen to her daily. She has always felt like she did not belong anywhere or to anyone. She constantly lets others rule her feelings, drive her inner anger, and squelch her capabilities. Yet she sees impossible things happen, seems to make them happen unintentionally, and spends the majority of her teenage life trying to prove to others that she is not a freak.

Ian, is a clever quiet dark-haired boy who always seems to mysteriously save her at just the right time from her darkest moments. And does he know how Grace feels about him? Will she ever admit it aloud?

Then one Halloween night, her eighteenth birthday, she finally finds out the truth. A prophecy. Before she was born, her destiny was chosen naming her to end a war. She enters a world hidden just outside the real one. Was it all laid out, or does she have a choice?

Grace seems to think so even still. And Ian gives her the choice to walk away from him and his secrets. But does she want to walk away? Ian offers much more than just himself, the son of the Seelie Court queen. He offers her a path into his world where appearances are deceiving and others are trying to woo her away. Her world by birth. Creatures. And they are not the tiny winged beings from her childhood. They call themselves many names. Fey. Fair Folk. Fairies. And they say she is to be their new queen. But the enemies who want her to fail are closer than you think. Much closer. Will Grace be able to tell friend from foe? Even ones who have been beside her for years?

And yet all of this was her choice? What will Grace choose? Who will Grace choose?

Read it in one day. Loved it. Did not want to put it down. Can not wait till Tainted is out and can find out what happens next. I know Grace is going to marry Ian. It just has to be.

Cyndi Goodgame crafted an intriguing fairy tale amid a mystical, creature-laden backdrop. The plot draws you in and keeps you captivated from start to finish. Goodgame’s main characters Ian and Grace were well-developed (especially their quirks). I admired how Goodgame blended romance with paranormal. I am excited to read book 2 and 3 and that is my way of saying I thoroughly enjoyed book 1.

I really admire the author's ability to think like a teenager. Reading the main character's thoughts was really exactly like I imagine it sounds inside of a teenager's head!

So I just finished "Deception" and first, let me say that I stayed awake through the night to read it. This is not something I often do, because I value my sleep greatly, but I did it for this book. That alone should tell you something.

The strengths of this novel are:
-The bond between Ian and Grace (how it starts and how it matures). I won't give away too much for you there.
-Quirky Grace herself. I found myself really liking her. I adore how intelligent she is. As a quirky, intelligent girl myself, I can relate to her.
-The characters are each unique in their own respect and well thought out.
-The storyline itself is imaginative, playful and intense at parts, at all the right times.

There were a few issues I ran upon though:
-The narrative frequently slips between first-person and third-person, which threw me off a little. I'm not sure if it was intentional but I feel as though it should have stayed in the first-person, narrative.
-The tense frequently changes between past and present. "I was" vs. "I am" type scenarios clashed a multitude of times and distracted from the overall smoothness of the storytelling.
-The way things were worded could become a little confusing at times. The author is very descriptive in her internal dialogue for Grace. At times this is necessary to understand what is going on in Grace's head, but other times it diverts from the story itself.
-There was some grammar issues but in light of the story, this is a very minor issue and could be easily ignored. As an Indie author, I know how difficult it can be to edit your own work.

All in all, I truly enjoyed this book and I am eager to see what happens next for Grace. Thank you for the wonderful and unique fairy tale, Mrs. Goodgame!

The development of characters is profound enough to carry the reader through the book all by itself. I love the scent additives to make the story vary from other Fey related books. And I am so in love with Pike! I want to know more about that boy!

I knew early on that it wasn't good but I had this innate curiosity to want to know what will happen; therefore, I finished it.

Finishing the whole book did not alter my thoughts and feelings about it since the beginning.

*MC is a Mary Sue. Somewhat. Yes.
*The agony of a being in love with your best friend and the thought of him not loving you back.
*She left? Just like that? She left? Without a goodbye or anything because "I love you so much, I will forget everything where I grew up and go with you".
*And just because her mother knew who she really was and what's going on doesn't mean that it's okay.
*She didn't even talk to her mother about anything... all the secrets, her role in this, everything.
*Just like that? She accepted everything: queenship, betrothal, prophecy.
*More fools: Ian, Pike, the Seelie Court.

First book in the Fey Court Trilogy. Ian and Grace and the world they live in...maybe fairy tales are true....but perhaps more danger filled than we thought.

Grace's best friend and secret crush is not all she thinks he is.

I think there is definitely an interesting concept in here but it needs a serious edit. I've read ARC's with small grammatical errors and it can be easy to over look when writing a full novel especially for an indie author and I'd read a few reviews stating these errors but the POV switching between first and third person and incorrect words or tenses made it really difficult to understand.

This read a little like a wattpad novel (if that sort of makes sense). I didn't feel there was enough world building and sometimes I couldn't keep up with the story because it would jump ahead or insert a random thought that should've been mentioned earlier for the reader to comprehend. There's also a big focus on the love story component (which is a shame because my favourite part of fae stories is the weird and wonderful landscapes and creatures you come across) which sort of dragged the story a little bit. She doesn't question or stay mad or curious because it's "her Ian" telling her these things. Some of the phrases were a little cliche too, the whole let out a breathe she didn't know she'd been holding trope.

Side note: No communication to her mum, just went sure, let me follow the hot guy to another world... I've read a ton of books like this and I know you need to suspend your disbelief a little especially when it's a detail to keep the plot moving but just because your crush tells you your mum knows doesn't mean it's cool to go wander off especially if he keeps telling you how dangerous he and this world is. I feel like she should've asked a lot more questions or thought of some of those questions before going with him.

I really enjoy fae books and maybe 10 years ago if I'd read this I would've gotten into it a bit more and continued the series but there were to many errors for me to really enjoy it. It says revised edition but I don't know if I read the original or the revised.

Okay I want to start by saying I'm not usually one to leave a bad review but I'm making an exception here because this book just blew my mind and not in a good way. Honestly, when I buy an ebook for $2.99 I don't expect the next Great Gatsby. All I'm looking for is a quick, enjoyable read. But I do expect good grammar, a decent plot, something that passes for decent literature. I don't know how to say this without coming off condescending but Ms. Goodgame really needs to take a few writing classes and try rewriting this book.

Now I say rewrite because I think she's got a potentially good story here. However, writing that included using periods to emphasis a point is simply. Not. Acceptable. There were times when the story switched from frist to third Pov and back again so fast it gave me whiplash and the plot sometimes seemed liked it was held together with a thread.

Despite all this there were times when the world was being described that I thought I could really enjoy the story if it was polished a bit. That's what saved it from a one star rating. So basically I wouldn't recommend this book to a friend but I think I could be good if the author gets a good editor and redoes it.

Needs Work!

I really wanted to like this book, but was disappointed in the lack of follow through in the story line. It's as if the writer could not keep track of where she was from one sentence to the next. Most of the book is a repeat of how much they love each other and how wonderful they are. It is as if we were expected to already know the background and history of what was going on. Even if you are able to ignore it being day one moment and night the next, you will have to deal with the improper use of words. It is rather obvious that the writer used spell check for correcting, since the words are spelled correctly, but they are the wrong words, like me instead of my. So much more time needed to be spent in getting correct grammar, proper sentences being written and good editing done before it was published. With so many independent authors these days and so many choices in reading, one would think an author would want to make sure they put their best foot forward.

I hate doing this - leaving a bad review is awful.
However this book need's re-worked. I could not get into it at all. It switches point of view constantly & it left me confused as to who's POV i was experiencing. I struggled through an hour of this book before i finally gave up totally frustrated! I honestly think it could be a good YA book if it was just clearer.

I think this story has a lot of potential, but I couldn't read/finish it because of poor editing. When I could look past all of the exclamation points (!!!-ugh) and the changing from 1st to 3rd person within the same paragraph, I got the sense that there was a good story building, but I didn't have the energy to read it in its current condition.

I couldn't really get into this books and connect with the characters. I gave up at 48%. I wasn't a fan of the time jumps, the were confusing at times and I felt like I really had no idea what was really going on. Even the vague answers were just to vague for me to care. I wanted to love this book. I love anything Fey. Sadly this this book didn't do it for me.
