Introduktion till pedagogik

Vi har alla en uppfattning om vad pedagogik kan vara efter åratal i skolan. I detta fall pratar vi om pedagogik som praktik. Men vad är då pedagogik som akademiskt ämne, som kunskapsområde?
Som hjälp till att förstå ursprunget till dessa två innebörder, tar författaren oss tillbaka till pedagogikens barndom. Beskrivningen är intressant, klargörande och - om uttrycket tillåts - synnerligen pedagogiskt.

- Pedagogik handlar om uppfostran, undervisning och utbildning och därtill ledarskap, men vad betyder detta när man ska studera pedagogik?

- Hur ser framtiden ut för kunskapsområdet pedagogik? Vad är t ex pedagogik i förhållande till utbildningsvetenskap?

- Är ämnet pedagogik en arena för ett antal olika kunskapsområden eller en egen disciplin?

- Vilka forskningsmetodiska traditioner har dominerat? Problematiserande diskussion runt kvantitativa och kvalitativa metoder.

Som en hjälp till läsaren att kritiskt reflektera över vad den läser, sammanfattar författaren varje avsnitt med slutsatser och frågor.
Boken vänder sig till alla som är intresserade av pedagogik. Nybörjarna får en god introduktion och de mer erfarna får tillfälle att bygga ut sin bakgrundskunskap. En översikt som denna har nämligen inte funnits på mycket länge.

I would not recommend this as an introduction to the subject. The author writes very safely and seems not to want to take a stance at all while also talking on a somewhat meta level through out the book. By writing like this, it results in jumbled chapters without much substance and a feeling of uncertainty when reading about it. There is great content in there, but the delivery and constant references to the next chapters or "it could be like this or like this, things are complex, and sometimes we generalize" paragraphs makes the reader lose the concrete knowledge that this book could give.

If you have to read it, I would recommend skipping the main text and jump to the summary after reading the introduction of each chapter, and then read the main text if there is something that is unclear or peaks your interest.

Hard going. Good content, but it's very philosophical and high-concept, for an introduction to the subject as a discipline.

That said, recommended as perhaps a second book, or as a reintroduction to the subject. It's one of those books that improves on re-reading, and particularly re-reading with a little more familiarity with the subject matter.
