It is an overview of Bruce Wayne's early life, including his parents' murder, his time spent traveling and training throughout the world, and his return to Gotham City to become Batman. Decades later, the story became the structural basis for Batman Begins, which rebooted the Batman film franchise in 2005.

The story of how Batman begins, since Bruce Wayne's parents were murdered and his journey around the world to train and learn till he became Batman. Though it's a short story, but it obviously influenced Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins".
Many people who have read and reviewed this say that it’s Batman in a nutshell—that it’s too concise, too simplified. But I feel differently. Its brevity isn’t a flaw; it’s what makes it so powerful. In just under 20 pages, it encapsulates the struggle, the shortcomings and the relentless drive of Bruce Wayne to find his ultimate purpose—and it does so in the most poetic of ways: through symbolism.
It doesn’t explain—it reveals. And to me, that’s exactly what makes it linger…
Dennis O'Neil, man. Fantastic. I knew this had heavy influence on Batman Begins, but I didn't realize that Batman: Year One was literally just a full adaptation of his time back in Gotham either. Makes me appreciate how much Miller did with pre-existing ideas. The basics were there, but he still revolutionized The Bat. I love Year One.
Quick but a concise introduction to Bruce into Batman, and also a fascinating contemplation of what goes through the Detectives mind as he’s doing his thing.
