Finding her past was supposed to end the nightmare. Only it was just the beginning.
Entrusting the fate of the world, not to mention her and Isaiah’s life to a father she’s never met is a big leap of faith on Fallon’s part. But it’s a necessary risk. Ashton is the key to protecting Isaiah and keeping her out of Garrison’s clutches. He is also the only one who can tell her what she is, except what she learns is that she is from a world that is far more dangerous than anyone could possibly imagine.
As her powers grow out of control, Fallon must pick between her mortality and a legacy that does not include Isaiah. She must summon the courage to face a destiny that will test the boundaries of everything she has ever known. But most of all, she must protect Isaiah from the monster within herself and trust the man whose toxic blood runs through her veins.
Danger builds as power clashes between two evils, both seeking her to tip the scales to eternal darkness and suffering.
Can humanity rise to face an ancient calling to which Fallon is powerless to stop? Can she protect those she cares about, or will their blood forever stain her hands?

I want to thank each of you once again for your patience while we make sure the series is the best possible it can be! You guys are so amazing. Thank you! <3
~Airicka
Hey guys! Just wanted to let everyone know that Touching Fire will be out. I'm just waiting for the publisher to give me the date. I'll be announcing it everywhere once I know!
Thank you all so much for your patience and excitement for this release. I cannot wait to share it with you guys!! <3
OH MY WOW!!! I do believe I used some other profound language when I finished Touching Fire, book #2 in the Touch Saga by the lovely Airicka Phoenix.
Let me start by saying this book was totally not where I was expecting Ms. Phoenix to take Fallon’s journey. It was so much more. Emotional, raw, and intense are three words that come to my mind when you ask me about Touching Fire.
Those of you that have read my reviews know that I really don’t like to give much away when it comes to the storyline and plot. I truly feel that in order to REALLY enjoy the book – you totally have to experience it for yourself.
Airicka creates a world in Touching Fire that is unlike any other that I have read about so far. Beings – I don’t dare call them humans – with amazing abilities, hidden agendas, intriguing powers – it’s all there. We learn more about where Fallon came from, a little more about what she is, and maybe just a glimpse into where she’s going.
To those of you that are Isaiah fans out there, trust me, you shall not be disappointed. We all fell in love with Isaiah in Touching Smoke; the way he takes care of Fallon and how he would LITERALLY lay down his life for her and her safety. Not only do we see the relationship intensify between Fallon and Isaiah on an emotional level, but – let’s just say – things certainly heat up for them on a physical level as well. Remember Fallon and her “need” for Isaiah, yeah, it’s back, alive and kicking.
Some new characters to keep an eye on. Ashton – Fallon’s father. I feel like I should warn you all to be cautiously optimistic about him, his intentions, his plans. But one thing is without a doubt certain in my brain – his love for Fallon is deep and intense, just as that of a father should be. You will be amazed and astounded once you learn more about Ashton’s backstory.
Archer, Archer, Archer. Snarky, hard to figure out, and sexy as hell. An ally to Ashton, seems willing enough to do anything, but feels like he has something “darker” in mind when it comes to Fallon. I don’t have him quite figured out.
The cast of supporting characters that we are introduced to is both bizarre (in some cases), intriguing, and sometimes down-right scary. As I said earlier, there’s a new world for you to discover in Touching Fire. We’re lead closer to understanding Fallon’s purpose as outlined by Garrison in some ways, but in lots of ways, more questions are raised.
Just how much can Fallon take?
To sum it up – without giving too much to away – I couldn’t put Touching Fire down. I literally was up to the wee hours of the morning to finish this book. I actually tried to go to bed, only to get up 20 minutes later so that I could finish. It is THAT good.
This is one of those series that takes forever to release, but when it releases you know your in for a VERY wild, plot twist infested ride. This was actually one of the FIRST books I've re-read. Please keep in mind that when I read a book, unless it means something to me or is signed, I usually never pick it up again. I LOVED that this was one of the exceptions.
There is NEVER a dull moment in this story. There's an I-hope-it-becomes-a-love-triangle-but-not-really kind of thing going on. There's also a lot of action and people being deceived. Don't even get me started on the amount of plot twists being thrown our way. I didn't know up from down half the time in this book. It was SO refreshing C:
Fallon still doesn't have all the solutions to her problems. Heck, she's a teenager. She's supposed to be insecure and dreaming about Isaiah *wink wink*. Add in her would-be-friend of a dad and Isaiah's faith in the guy and something smells fishy. There were so much revelations in this book. I can't comment on them because it would give a lot away. So I'll just say: It was AWESOME and leave it at that.
Isaiah was Isaiah. He was caring, sweet and believed in her the entire way. Because Fallon doesn't know what to do and keeps taking other people's help, she gets in a lot of trouble and, consequently, Isaiah usually takes to brunt of the attack and Fallon goes half crazy (literally. Read the book. You'll understand why C:).
Archer was crazy cute with his one liner's! He's the this-should-be-a-love-triangle-but-I'm-on-the-fence-with-my-feelings guy. When he enters the story you know her dad is up to something and that Archer is CLEARLY involved. You just don't know what for sure. He was still an awesome character and I hope to see him in future novels.
That ending left me on the edge of my seat and totally craving more! Why the mean cliffhanger Mrs. Phoenix? Cliffhangers really hurt my feelings =/
Update: I just saw that Book #3 Touching Embers comes out on July 31st!
P.S. I hope Goodreads is right C:
Favorite Quotes:
"Life really was one big box of freaking mystery chocolates and I was quickly becoming diabetic."
"I'm a sin, not a virtue." .....Insider C;
"Your pathetic morality, your human drive to shun things your puny mind cannot comprehend will be the nail that sails your coffin. Don't be blind, Princess. Open your eyes and see the truth I am giving you because is it the only truth you will ever have."
First and foremost I want to yell at the author for the damn cliffhanger... not what I was expecting. You suck!
second, Fallon has come a long way, she's getting some confidence to her and is getting more powers, she understands now when her powers come into play. Isaiah is her strength and could quite possibly be her destruction. I love these two kids. I am very hopeful for their future however Miss Phoenix has made it hard to figure out what their future may hold.
Archer is a fun character! Snarky, dry sense of humor, he is def one of my new favorites.
Still on the run for their lives, being captured, escaping, and still running, they come back to the mortal realm to find complete destruction. Time is ticking to take down the one who is responsible. How to find and destroy him is the question.
I can't wait for the next in the series! Touching Embers let's go!
Wow! The long awaited sequel to Touching Smoke is finally here and it is well worth the wait! Filled with action, beautiful descriptions, new worlds and characters and too many damn intimate scenes between Fallon and Isaiah - Airicka does good with the teasing- it's worth the read. It's well written and gorgeously described, I felt like I was actually living in Fallon's world. I felt like I was watching a movie or tv show, it was just that vivid. Now we'll have to wait a while for book 3 but I know it'll be worth the wait.
Fallon and Isaiah’s story continues to evolve into an epic and original world of dark desires, sin, love, and a desperate fight for freedom from old and new enemies. As her powers continue to awaken, Fallon’s desperation to hold onto her humanity compels you too not put this book down for a second. The level of character development is amazing because you see her fight through and question everything she comes in contact with. There is no safe place, and she is thrown into a new world with no way to navigate it on her own. Isaiah and Fallons love is the lifeline holding her sanity. The second book in the series hold even more questions that demand answers. Airicka Phoenix outdoes herself with this captivating evolution in her series. Be prepared for a rollercoaster.
One day authors (should i say other authors?) anyways, one day, we readers will rise up against your cliffhangering-y ternary and demand that if you do it, have the next one out the next day! Or just you know, stop you from doing it...
First Warning: I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review => honesty is the best policy right? Unless a girl asks you if she looks fat, the answer is always, always, NO. don't question me on this. It's just how the world works.
Second Warning: This is a SECOND in a Saga, please keep that in mind because while I will not giveaway any spoilers (unless hidden) from this book, but there may be unavoidable spoilers from book one. Understood? Cool let's get started.
Song Choice: "Rabbit Heart" by Florence + Machine, "Satellite Heart" by Anya Marina, "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arm Race" by Fall Out Boy
First thought: Holy fuck. We have been waiting what a year for this book? (no that isn't a jab at Airicka) This is my saying - it was fucking worth the wait and so much more. If you're looking for something so original, so mind blowingly good stop looking you've found it cause this is going to have your jaw dropping so much you will need surgery to fix it. Cause WOW. seriously i know I saw wow a lot but WOW. I was not expecting that at all.
Thoughts on Plot: So I am going to start where I left off a second ago, the I was not expecting that all sort of thing, at first I was like O.O HOLY HELL, we are given something so much more than the first book I thought would have ever offered, and that is coming out wrong. What I am trying to say here is: What you think you might know about this series, I can guarantee you are wrong. So very wrong. At first I wasn't sure how this new thing that is introduced (can't say what it is but i LOVED IT) connected with book one. I will admit for the first cough half cough of this book I was going I love this story line, i love this plot, i love the action, i love all this NEW-NESS, but how does it connect with book one other than we have Isaiah and Fallon. Don't worry Garrison is still around. The sick bastard... i mean....*pats head*. Anyways so yeah I did have that thought then we got to the second half of the book when things start really lining up and holy mother of god I just figured something out while writing this!!! OMGOD...OH MY GOD. OMG. okay i am going to try really hard not to freak out about that anymore because its something you are going to have to figure your for yourselves... OMG. GENIUS. Alright so there is a lot, A LOT ALOT of new information in this book, a lot of new ideas everything I loved, i think it really helped expand this series as a whole and I think it gives the reader and Airicka more room to expand the plot, and really make it juicy for the next two *wiggles eyebrows suggestively* Anyways if you were a fan of book one, well I think you will absolutely adore book two ^.^
Characters:
Characters are always hard to do after the first book because its like I have covered them? I have to talk more about them? Why yes...yes I do. :)
Fallon: I was happy she was her snarky sense with awesome comebacks in her head or out loud or times than not out loud ;) I think that in this book she was growing a little more, she is learning how to live without her mother, but also accepting that she has her mysterious father who is not dead, all the while she is dealing with the fact she is only 17 - yeah remind yourself about that little fact because i certainly kept forgetting ;) anyways i think at the end of the book she was still a little too trusting, but I am seeing changes in her, seeing growth, and that is the thing with series its hard, you can't have your character change all in one book, then what is left for them but adventures? And readers love seeing their MCs grow, and I think Fallon will be showing us a whole lot of growth - still love her.
Isaiah: Sexy, yes. Quiet, yup. Reserved. Not so much anymore. Hello, you golden skin hottie, please be informed from this point on I am going to require that he never wears a shirt for the rest of this series - that is a demand Airicka Phoenix, a demand. Anyways. I think this was more for Fallon that it was for them ...if that makes sense. There is romance don't worry but there is a lot to be learned, and a lot to be done.
Archer: I am a sucker for a guy named Archer. I am a sucker for the sarcastic one. ^.^
There are other new characters in this book but I really don't want to talk about them publicly in fear of doing spoilers so i will say this, they were well developed, deceivingly amazing, and i can't wait for more. Seriously. I can't wait. Give it to me now. I might even suggest just giving me your brain Airicka. :| <= serious face.
5*s WOW! soooo worth the wait but what a cliffhanger!! Review posted here... http://bookpassionforlife.blogspot.co... I just want to start straight off by saying that this book is EPIC! I loved book one and the wait has been loooong but believe me, this more than makes up for that wait and really opens up the world attached to the story in a big way and answers are freely given but that raises more questions & that only adds to the allure. Following the ending of book one, Fallon and Isaiah are on the run, living as prey trying to stay one step ahead of the predators and something has to give, they cannot go on like this, not being able to stay in the same place for long, not being able to rest…. So they have only one option really and that is to contact Fallon’s father Ashton who takes them home. Fallon is about to learn a lot about herself and her heritage but is no nearer finding out how to control her powers or her need for Isaiah. When a prophecy is revealed centring on Fallon it seems she is in the right place, protected and cared for, possibly to master her powers after uncovering some of what she may be capable of but fate has other plans… if she is to stay safe in the arms of a family, she must let go of Isaiah – which is inconceivable – and choose between her new found heritage and her humanity. Meanwhile, Garrision will stop at nothing to get his hands on Fallon and when she emerges from their seclusion, she will be hit with the severity of what people will do for power. All she wants is to protect those she loves but everyone she meets wants to use her for something…. How long can she withstand the allure of Isaiah before they turn into the ultimate weapon? Can they find a way to stop it? Just who can they trust? It’s safe to say that I loved this book, I thought the continuation from book one was great and it was easy to jump straight back into Fallon & Isaiah’s world. The sense of urgency & fear radiated from their circumstances, the run and chase scenario that dominated book one carried over into the sequel but I knew it had to go in a new direction and that was where Ashton came in, it was the only way the plot could go really and whilst the meeting of Fallon and her father was inevitable, the way the world opened up through this was unexpected and awesome! Taking the book from a paranormal read into the fantasy realm which is vastly different from the world Fallon is used to. It brought about all sorts of new things, new people, new creatures, new surroundings, new magic, new possibilities, a new way of life…. But also new expectations and some of those won’t fit in with Fallon’s ideals and whilst we got a great deal of answers…it also brought up more questions. I thought the reveals we did get about her heritage were just great, so unique and I can’t recall reading anything of the likes, so that’s always an exciting thing for a bookworm…. I was just so amazed by it all and really engrossed with the story, did I trust everyone? No, but that is always there in books like this because things are never what they seem. I also loved that whilst Fallon was gone that Garrison had upped the ante and pressed forward with a different kind of plan which also gave him a more sinister, megalomaniac type of vibe and I was shocked at what lengths he will go to. The whole situation with Fallon & Isaiah grows slightly more urgent too as the pull between them strengthens and I don’t think anyone really ‘gets’ what’s going on between them, I feel we won’t really get any answers to this until the final book but it’s always there, ever present on your mind as you see them get closer and more intimate, I have tons of questions about them but also the patience to wait.. I also expected some more from Amelie but that was on hold too…. Not grumbling though because there is plenty going on in this to make up for any questions not answered. The ending unfortunately is a cliffhanger… yeah, not a fan but it certainly does what cliffhangers are meant to do – it leaves you desperate for more! Which I most definitely am.
You know those authors who are beyond amazing at writing that you just wish you could camp outside their home and be the first to get the news on what they are working on and when you will be able to get you greedy stalkerish hands on their next work of art..? Ms. Phoenix is EXACTLY that type. I couldn't even form proper sentences when I finished this book cause it left me speechless and excited and terrified and on edge and... and... and... Instead of reading this review go pick up the book if you haven't already!!
Seriously, Ms. Phoenix knows how to write her stories. She knows what she's doing. I mean the feels alone I got from this book... This book was definitely worth the long ass wait!! :D You will definitely not be disappointed with this one - not that Airicka has ever disappointed with all her other books. She's absolutely amazing I might possibly make another shelf dedicated to her alone on my GRs bookshelf.
I loved Fallon in this one. She was even more kick-ass and sarcastic than in the first. Was great finding out more about what she can be able to do and who she really is.
Isaiah my love... *le sigh* never fails to make me swoon and melt my heart. I love everything about this character. I underestimated how much he can really make swoon and... and... and... Mrs Violet Dennison. O_O Yeah... I like him... a lot!
Archer... now if it were any other book, Archer would have been one of those okay characters with me. But I LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED him. I mean I love Isaiah too just as much, but Archer was a new addition - the new shiny toy you just wanna play with. He was an awesome addition and I pray that Airicka writes more of him in the following book.
Khrane, like Archer, was a dark and beautifully added character. I loved his whole personality and I'm pretty sure I would love to be BFFs with him if it wasn't for the what he turns into when you piss him off. But I loved him and for some reason he reminded me of Warner from Tahereh Mafi's Shatter Me series. And yes that is a big ass compliment - I love Warner, the best and first bad guy I have ever fallen in love with... now there's Khrane. :) Even though what he did at the end of the book was pretty douchebaggery of him, I still enjoyed his character.
*GASP How can I forget about CELIA!! Gosh... I have no words for her. I'll give her till book 3 before I lay it on her.
I also love the romance in this book. It's not exactly the centre of attention but it's there. And the relationship between Fallon and Isaiah is perfect because it is tough, with unfair shizz thrown at them at every angle, and that's what makes it sobeautifully real.
The plot was well written and the writing especially just sucks you in and the story itself becomes like a tattoo. It sticks with you with enough action, great characters, plot twists and squeeze in some romance while we're at it. Seriously pick this read up and if you haven't gotten on board with this train start with Touching Smoke series and then when you are done with that, go straight to Airicka Phoenix's other books because she is truly an amazing author who needs a hell of a lot of recognition for her awesomeness, and swoon-worthy characters if I may add.
Also as a side note: Whenever Isaiah and Fallon were alone together all I could think about was a song called 'Mexico' by an amazing Canadian band called 'Hedley'. :) In fact their recent album Wild Life has a few great songs that perfectly match some of the scenes from the book.
Book 2 picks up one month after Fallon and Isaiah escaped Garrison’s clutches. Isaiah has convinced Fallon to contact her father, Ashton, to receive help. They have been on the move constantly, just one step ahead of Garrison’s men. When Fallon meets her father, she has no idea who he really is, or for that matter what she really is. Oh my God I love this series. I can’t get enough of these characters, especially Fallon. The world building is incredibly. I can see the other worlds she creates and it is amazing. The author is able to create a mental image in my head of creatures I could never have imagined. There are flaming horses, hybrid humans, mutant like things, new realms…I was taken on a non-stop adventure in a place I have never been before. And the reveal about what Fallon is caught me completely off guard. Talk about a completely unique story.**The book may be classified as paranormal romance, but I would certainly classify it as action. Fallon never gets a chance to stop. She is dragged through one epic battle to the next, facing scary creatures we don’t even have a name for. The book is also Hot! With a capital H. The tension and feelings between Fallon and Isaiah were enough to burn the pages up, and there was not even any sex. I was so wrapped up in the two of them, right along with them being wrapped up in each other. I love Fallon. She has the quirkiest sense of humor and thinks incredibly inappropriate things at awful times I can’t help but to laugh. Out loud in public, you know where people think you are crazy. I liked her growing up in this book, instead of needing her mom or Isaiah to save her, she wants to protect others and take charge of her life. She is a great female character that I completely support. My favorite Fallon quotes that made me giggle in the middle of a serious situation: "Life really was one big box of freaking mystery chocolates and I was quickly becoming diabetic." "Fantastic. It couldn't, for once, be something small. Where were all the evil kittens of death? Why did it always have to be something menacing and huge?" "I was an only child for seventeen years and I never- to my knowledge- predicted a slow and painful death on anyone. Okay there was that one time at McDonalds, but that was another matter entirely." Isaiah is completely dreamy. What’s not to love about an incredibly attractive man, who is completely devoted to her, and that she physically needs to live? They have such a strong bond, even without the blood sharing thing. I really want them to say “screw you world, we are going to be together” but I really doubt that will happen. Fallon and Isaiah together are so bittersweet because there is just no way for it to work and it makes my heart hurt. **The secondary characters were all so different and fairy mysterious. Ashton her father has unspeakable power yet would give it up for Falon. I really like Archer and his snark. I feel like there is more to him and his involvement here than what anyone is revealing, and it has to do with Fallon. The one character that ended up betraying Fallon I completely saw coming, it was not a shock for me when it happened, just where she ended up was a twist. I have loved both books in this series, becoming completely engrossed in the books where my world drops away. There are so many questions that I have from the ending that I am desperate to get my hands on the next book.
When you find yourself expecting one thing to happen next and completely caught off guard when the author takes the story in a completely different direction... This is what you should expect when reading 'Touching Fire'! Airicka Phoenix weaves a story so intense that there is nothing between the first word and the last that will take you away from finishing this amazing book in one sitting. Up all night, cozy by the fire light or seated upright & focused on the pages as they turn under your fingertips on their own accord.
I fell in love with Isaiah in 'Touching Smoke' and he did not disappoint me in 'Touching Fire'. He is so handsome, sweet and strong. His character was built to protect Fallon no matter what the cost. He cannot fail, he will not allow for anything to happen to her, putting his own life at risk a number of times...it's just how he's made.
Fallon has grown, so much in 'Touching Fire' that looking back on her character in 'Touching Smoke' there's only a slight resemblance. She questions everyone she comes in contact with, sometimes putting her trust in others a little to quickly as she learns more about herself and her past. Unsure of her own destiny, all she knows is Isaiah is hers and she is his, always... Not even her father, whom she's never met before, can convince her Isaiah is not the man for her as much as he tries to show her she's different.
There were many other characters introduced in this installment... Many that when introduced I had this gut feeling they shouldn't be trusted. In some cases I was right and others...well I still don't know whether or not to trust them. Archer had me laughing so hard I'm sure I almost woke up my husband while reading well into the wee morning hours. Ashton resembled the perfect father figure of a teenage girl, though never fully realizing that she was of an age that she could make some decisions on her own...PINK! Really!!! I mean he should have had better taste in clothes! Garrison is still on the top of my list of Worst Villain's of All Times! That man just gives me the creeps in so many ways...he's EVIL!
I loved this book and cannot wait to read 'Touching Embers' as well as 'Touching Ash' when they are released. Airicka will not be able to hold me back, I'll beg and plead till she gives in, till then I have to be patient and that's not one of my finer qualities in life... If you have not started the Touch Saga you do not know what you're missing!!!
Despite all of the four and five star reviews, I found "Touching Fire" to be one convoluted hot mess! This series started out with the theme of manipulation and of DNA within people to an extreme. Then, in book two it morphed into a different beast entirely. The author includes magical dimensions, demons, angels, Greek mythology, the Loch Ness monster, water nymphs and God knows what all else. Additionally, the editing errors in this book were ridiculous! With this being said, I moderately enjoyed this read but felt there was entirely too much going on. Too many new characters, too many attacks and battles leading no where, characters with alternative names i.e. Ashton/ Acheron and editing errors that hampered the success of the story.
So, here's the story: Fallon and Isaiah manage to narrowly escape the clutches of the evil Dr. Garrison. They end up meeting Ashton/ Acheron aka dear old dad and are whisked off to the town of Luxuria in one of the seven realms. There Fallon learns of her father's life and social standing. She meets her relatives and also begin to uncover the secrets of who she is and what she is capable of. After seeing the disdain of this group of elitist, Fallon and Isaiah go back to British Columbia only to realize that six months have passes rather than three days and that the world is not the same as they left it. Garrison has launched his minions on the attack against innocent people and now the various cities are in a state of emergency.
As I stated earlier, the story line, characters became so convoluted that the read was frustrating at best. Once again the beginning of the story dragged on and on for the first four chapters and then when the momentum actually built to an somewhat interesting level I became turned off by the overdone and overworked theme. Sometimes simple is best. I wish that Ms. Phoenix had just stuck with the modification of DNA theme rather than throwing every supernatural creature she could fathom in this book. The only one missing seemed to be Sasquatch and I think he is thankful for it.
At this point, I do not think I will be moving forward with book three and it is a shame really. This series had so much promise but fell short in too many important ways for me to ignore. Different strokes for different folks.
Another pretty good read in the series - although my favourite is still the prequel novel, Touching Eternity. After reading the first book in the series, I was looking forward to reading this book and hopefully getting some more answers about what is really going on. While this book did answer some questions about Fallon, her heritage, and why everyone wants her - it only served to stir up questions, questions, and more questions. Aside from being slightly frustrated at the ever increasing number of questions I want answers to and also the spelling and grammar issues with the writing, I did actually enjoy reading the book. I felt like I got to know Fallon's character better than the first book, and it was nice to see her standing up for herself - even if she still can't really do much with her powers unless Isaiah is in danger. The relationship between Fallon and Isaiah also seems to have grown significantly, and it was nice to see them have a few 'normal' moments in the story. I liked the fact that though they have this bond thing and can communicate telepathically - they still end up stubbornly fighting like an old married couple sometimes. I enjoyed this book but am understandably frustrated with the cliff-hanger ending and the many unanswered questions. I will be looking forward to the next book and reading more of Fallon and Isaiah's story.
Ready for an adventure to a whole new world? Paranormal lovers...this is one you won't want to miss! It is full of action, comedy, heat, & other worldly goodness! Frustratingly so because of Fallon & Isiah's hot/cold/smoldering moments. Then I was full of questions along with Fallon yet with every new morsel of info. I found more added replacing the last. Of course she couldn't just lay it all out there easy peasy for us now could she? Where would the fun be in that? Airicka's attention to details amazed me & I enjoyed reading every bit of it. Amazing because the characters are intriguing, ready for action, full of wit, & then there are the absolutely hilarious, very unordinary conversations that lead to some of these revelations which guaranteed I wouldn't put this book down until the final word had been read. Don't believe me? See for yourself. :) Here are a few examples: I hit the pavement and cursed. I was not cut out for this hero business. Someone needed to write a How-To for Dummies, the 101 of heroism. I was pretty sure rule one would have been something like, don't wear a dress to a fight, followed by, don't fall. But, in my own defense, I still had a grip on my weapon and that totally deserved a cookie. ____________________________
"Put me down!" I snapped. "Wouldn't want to hurt your dainty foot, Princess." I bared my teeth. "Oh, it's going to hurt plenty when I kick your junk up into--" "Easy!" He rounded the corner between two buildings. "I saved your life. In some cultures that means we're married, in which case yore going to want my junk where it is." ____________________________
"They won't hurt you," Ashton assured me, giving the one closest to him a find pat on the rump. Like it was totally normal to touch a demon horse. "They're on fire," I said, deciding I should point this out just in case I was the only one aware of the situation and the possibility of burning to death in a fancy, black box. ____________________________
What were they? What was I? Life really was one big box of chocolates and I was quickly becoming diabetic.
Boy how I missed Isaiah and Fallon. I missed their relationship, their crazy love for each other, and Fallon's knack for always getting into the thick of things.
This book was so much better than the first. Soooo much better. I say that because there was just so much more going on. New beings that had powers no normal person could ever imagine, New worlds that you don't ever want to be found in, and new Characters that make you want to swoon and slap at the same time.
Ok, ok.. I love Isaiah. He's handsome and loving to Fallon. he'd do anything at all to keep her safe and there's not a doubt in my mind about that so why is it I have this new found adoration to Archer? He's everything that Isaiah is not. he's snarky and brash and has this weird fear of dogs. Oh, did I mention he's not human and is sexy as hell? I'm so torn.. Damn you Airicka Phoenix for bringing such a beautifully hateful man into my dreams. Lol.
A few more newbies are Fallon's dad Ashton and his wife Celia. I'm still up in the air about them. I can see that Ashton loves Fallon but there are a few hints that came up in the book that made me question how much he loves his daughter. Celia is just cool.. I loved the picture I have of her in my head. Kind of a female cat who's beautiful and fearsome.
This book will not disappoint you at all. So much, shall I say, craziness going on that you don't want to miss a second of it. This book was fairly dark but I loved every minute of it. It kept my full attention which is what I've come to expect from all of the books that I've read by Airicka Phoenix. I'm always so deep in the worlds she paints that I feel emerged in each and everyone of them.
I will leave you with this.. Dan you miss Phoenix.. How much longer till book 3 because if I don't find out what's happened really really soon I might just buy a ticket and make you personally give it to me. ;) just kidding. Sorta. :)
Seriously though, this was truly an amazing book and I'm looking forward to what Airicka has in store for Fallon and Isaiah next.
I guess her sarcasm hasn't changed since the last book and I do still find it irritating but I understand that it is her coping mechanism. Then again I did not sympathize with her when she was coping with the situation regarding her father and she sounded like a whiny brat although she does admit her faults but she still does them. That's the only part I hate about this book.
The relationship between her and Isaiah kept getting better and better plus the scenes were steamy but totally frustrating. But some were really funny especially the amusement of Isaiah.
The twist and turns of the events in this second book is something I did not expect and the secrets that were revealed were even bigger than Garrison but her situation with Garrison is not over yet.
I really like the new character Archer but I hated the traitors and to think it's Ashton's family.
And I probably hate the ending. I mean it hate in terms of that it is a freaking cliffhanger. It became more interesting towards the end and I hope what that other Legacy of Greed said about Ashton isn't true. Fallon's trust issue is really fragile and this might just top the icing on the cake.
There are two more books to follow in this series and I wonder how many will there be in total. I just can't seem to see the ending of this series.
Although I'm hoping for an HEA but then again I learned that she needs to make another difficult choice and that doesn't include Isaiah in the picture.
The author did answer the question that has been bugging my mind since I found out about the true Amalie but I would like to see more of her as well.
I received a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Airicka thank you so much for asking me to review this book. I gave it 5 stars because it was a fantastic continuation to what I am sure is going to be an amazing series. The book is full of twists and turns and the is-it-isnt it love triangle that seems to be developing both of which keep the reader hooked.
In this book we saw Fallon meet her Father Ashton for the first time after escaping from Garrison, the man who was responsible for creating her. We also find out that she is a Wrath Sin Fledgling Princess because she is Non-human and Human and what her destiny is, to kill Garrison & when dies for her blood to kill everything that it touches.
We are introduced to the world that her father comes from and the particular region in that country he lives in Luxuria. To get into this world, which is in the Folds of the Mortal world, you have to travel through a magical portal called a nexus and to do this you need a tool that looked like a pen.
Isaiah was his usual self loving, caring and supportive of Falllon. Fallon doesn't understand whats happening to her or what to do so she takes advice from other people which gets her into a lot of trouble. Due to this Isaiah generally is the one who takes the brunt of any attacks that they receive.
Archer is a new character that we are introduced to in this book & he's Ashton's right hand man. He is devastatingly good looking but it seems that he may have a dark side. It is clear all the way through the book that Ashton really loves Fallon although he not be all he seems especially when he cones to Fallon. what are his true intentions towards/plans for Fallon.
Then there's Ashton's wife Celia who seems to be very nice on the surface but, what is she really up to?
Oh Isaiah I missed you, you big hunk, "his eye glittered as his lips pulled into a heart melting smile. "Maybe because you were never crazy to begin with." He touched his brow to mine and I was drawn into his scent of toothpaste, soap, rain and leather. "Or maybe we're both crazy." I became painfully aware of his lip hovering dangerously close to mine and his hands burning though the fabric of my dress." I mean the had like damn PMS in this book one minute he's all up in Fallon and the next he stops himself fast, he really did give me whiplash, "his abrupt halt had me colliding into his back. His head snapped around so he could glower at me. from over his shoulder. "Turn you away?" He snorted. "I don't even think that's a possibility at this point." I mean these two have such an amazing connection and I was so thrilled to see it only go stronger and probably will continue to get stronger as the series/books go, "I let my hands claim every inch of his torso. I let my nails leave shallow welts in his beautiful, golden skin. He hissed a powerful, guttural sound of raw pleasure. His back arched into my hands as his body gave a shudder. His head fell back, his eyes closed, his teeth bared. Mine! The animal inside me snarled. His eyes opened and snapped down to mine. "Yours," he vowed." Sometimes though I think they're need for each can get them into immense trouble, because they really do depend on each other, "his lips grazed my throat. His hot breath washed over the skin, making it burn. Making me burn. "I need to feel you. Please." I have to say I loved this book better than the first two!
This book blew me away. It was nothing like what I was expecting, and with each new twist and turn the story became darker and even more terrifying. I was fully immersed in the story as Fallon uncovered her heritage, a complex web of lies and secrets, layer upon layer of surprising revelations that saw Fallon go from being a scientific experiment, to a powerful being with a destiny that could bring about the end of the world. It also showed that there were far more frightening things in this world than Garrison; although his level of evilness came pretty close to some of the strange creatures Fallon came into contact with.
I fell even more in love with Isaiah. He was so protective over Fallon, even when they realized just how powerful she was, and he was cast off as a mere human with a few enhancements, that protective instinct was still there. When Archer stepped into the picture I automatically thought “Uh-oh, love triangle” and my hackles were raised in Isaiah’s defense, but Archer seemed to be on his own buzz most of the time. I did get the feeling that there was more to his presence and I wasn’t that surprised when Khrane shed some light on that particular issue.
This book was filled with intrigue, romance, action, and even horror. There was a great mix of weird, fantastical creatures; some quite normal, others horrific - and yes, I include Lally in the latter category because she was just creepy!! I was thrilled with the twist Phoenix put on the sins and how they came to be. It was fresh and exciting. This is a definite must read for all PNR and fantasy lovers.
Holy frick!!! O.o I was so not expecting that! I really did not see Ms Phoenix taking the story in this direction. I was so surprised and I loved that! I hate when a story is predictable and you can guess what's gonna happen from the get go. But not this time. Oh no, this story is in no way predictable. There are so many twists and turns you have no idea what's gonna happen next. I really do applaud Ms Phoenix for her creativity and imaginative story-telling. There are so many new elements thrown into the mix this time around. How she comes up with them all I have no idea!
Poor Fallon. That girl just cannot catch a break. Things keep going from bad to worse for her. My heart really breaks for the situation she is in. One she doesn't seem to have any control over. But at least she has Isaiah by her side. Can I make a suggestion? Isaiah is not allowed to wear a shirt ever again. I think all the ladies out there will agree with me on this :P I love that boy. Please Airicka, don't break my heart when it comes to him. There are so many new characters introduced, one of my favourites being Archer. I just have a soft spot for the sarcastic ones :P
This book has been a long time coming and I can honestly say it was well worth the wait. Full of heart-pounding action, sizzling romance, and so many new revelations you will be glued to the page! And that damn cliffhanger!! Ugh if I have to wait another year for book 3, me and Ms Phoenix will be having words! ;) I cannot recommend this woman's books enough. They are just amazing!
*I received an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review*
First and foremost, I would like to thank the author for giving me an opportunity to review this book, so thank you so much Airicka!
Touching Fire is the second book of the Touch series and it was excellent read! It was such a joy to continue the story of Fallon and Isaiah, some old (unfortunately mainly bad ones) and many new (some very much hot ones) characters that were just introduced in this book. I feel like there is so much more to know about them all, so now I can't wait to get my hands on the third book! I have to say that the story line surprised me in a best way possible, it was completely new world, literally. For couple of days some twists and turns kept me glued to the book way after midnight. I very much liked that the story brings together different types of people, different generations and accentuate all the fine lines in the relationships between them.
I was absolutely swooned by Isaiah (again) and I just can't help but think that F&I's romantic part of the story is one of the best that I've ever read. No matter what was going on around the main heroes, one thing stayed always the same - their feelings for each other, and the ability of the Author to express it so well in every scene just made me overwhelmingly happy. Apart from romance, be ready for some real action as well because this book, as the first one in the series, will keep you on your toes.
All in all, this book was fantastic and I would recommend it to everyone who likes from time to time lose themselves in a fantasy world.
This series is incredible. So much is constantly happening and once you think you understand a few things a big something happens and everything changes. You even end up with 100 more questions on what the h3@# is going on with Fallon!! I wouldn't change any of it though. It's hard to find a book where you cannot anticipate it's every move. I love surprises an having to constantly try to see where everything is going and which side people are really on.
If you read the others in this series (Touching Smoke and Touching eternity) you get a pretty clear picture of what Isaiah and Fallon are up against when it comes to their relationship. I personally want them to have a HEA but with each new betrayal or event throughout this book I honestly question if it'll even go that way for these two but I am keeping my fingers crossed!
Also if you think you know the playing board of who is good and who is bad THINK AGAIN! Most characters are not who you think at all and you will be introduced to lot more who seem to fall on the side of the enemy. It's frustrating but it's more intriguing to have no clue who Fallon can and should trust. Especially at the end! The ending will definitely make you scream WTF?!?!?!?! I'll be stalking the lovely Airicka Phoenix for the next book in this series. Give this series a try if you love out of the box paranormal. With a romance that might not be what it seems, and so many turns you will have no choice but to finish the series to get the answers to all the questions!
Okay, so just so you know, I LOVE Airicka's writing! She always makes up the yummiest male leads and the surprises and twists in her books keep you guessing.
So, Fallon and Isaiah run into her father and a whole new world is opened up to them. Now Fallon is in even more danger than she was previously in and there are more threats against her life than you're able to count. This poor couple NEVER gets a seconds rest in this book as one thing after another is thrown at them. And on top of that is the whole daddy doesn't think her choice in men is the right one.
The moments that Fallon and Isaiah steal away together in this one are super yummy. I love the changes they're going through, but it sickens me that so much is coming at them all the time. I'll tell you, I didn't see the story line going where it did in this book. And the ending? Let's just say that you better be prepared for this cliffhanger. It's like being hit by a 2 ton semi that you didn't see coming, lol. All in all, I loved the book. I've added it to my favorites list. And I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!!
Would I recommend to others: ABSOLUTELY!! Appropriate for 14 and up: Yes. Language and sexual content: very mild on both counts. Doesn't mean it's not steamy, lol.
This one was a little bit different than the first book and took a fork in the road I was not expecting.
In this second addition the characters find themselves still on the run from everything and everyone imaginable, and in some cases, not even imaginable.
Fallon is place up against odds that are life changing, and hard to handle. She travels with her father to an interesting place and introduces Archer. I may not be a genius but I can see where THAT prize piece of info will be going in the next book. His nickname for her tells you it all, even if she cant figure it out. lol
I did really enjoy this second book, the only thing I had a hard time with was the information. ALL THE INFORMATION! By the time I finished reading, I felt like my head was going to explode with all the new things brought to light. I understand that most of this will probably be needed to move on to the next book, but good gad man! I also felt, even though all this light on things still didn't REALLY answer anything. You still have gaping holes. Not really in the story, but the place she is supposed to live, I still don't have much of an idea about the place. But all in all, that was probably the plan. :)
Overall, goodread. I would recommend if you have read the first book. It has its own interesting twists and turns. And we have Isaiah. That there is enough said.
Touching Fire by Airicka Phoenix is a YA paranormal novel. It is the sequel to Touching Smoke....and boy did it take the story to a new level. The story is well written and completely intriguing. This was definitely a could not put it down book. The plot was an intense roller coaster ride of thrills and surprises. Fallon learns more about her father and her creation - and the secrets are mind-blowing. I seriously do not know how Ms. Phoenix thinks some of this stuff up. Fallon and Isaiah are the main characters in both Touching Smoke and Touching Fire. I loved both of these characters when I read the first book....but Touching Fire has made me love them even more. I really think that Fallon discovered a lot about herself in this book and she developed a self-confidence and a maturity. Isaiah is still sexy and super hot. His devotion to Fallon is amazing. The new characters introduced in this book are wonderful too. Fallon's father, Ashton, is intriguing. He seems to genuinely care about Fallon but his actions are sometimes strange. Archer, Ashton's young friend, is sarcastic and cocky but also endearing. I really liked the dynamics that he brought to the story. I highly recommend this book to fans of YA paranormal....but make sure you read Touching Smoke first!
I received this as an ARC...OK here is my honesty:
I loved it... Fallon was a little more grown up and I loved her witty personality. When she finally learns about herself (and OMG...I didn't see that coming) she is determined to stay alive. Isaiah, yes he is still stunningly handsome and fiercely protective of Fallon. They have a love like no other ( I loved how when she thought Isaiah was going to break up with her and how he told her how silly she was it was a " Girl, it's obvious how crazy he is over you" kind of moments.) But through it all Fallon and Isaiah's love is solid. Then we met Archer... I loved him! I'm sarcastic by nature and we could totally be friends. A handsome looking friend. We get the usual readers adrenaline rush from start to finish, OK I lied because I was crushed that there was a cliffhanger. But that just means Touching Embers will be that much more worth it. Pick up the first one and start Fallon's journey then grab this copy and see what you have been missing Airicka has never disappointed in giving her readers something to look like a zombie after reading it. Yeah you'll stay up half the night reading well pass your bead time. So go charge your e-reader and Happy reading!
Love this series! I was not expecting this at all!
UPDATE: I would firstly like to thank Airicka for kindly providing me with a copy of Touching Fire to read and review for this blog tour <3
It seem like we've been waiting FOREVER for this to be released, I myself have been anticipating this book since finishing the first book and the novella.
Airicka Phoenix what are you doing to me!
You totally know how to keep the suspense of a novel going, and the build of anticipation throughout the series just keeps getting better and stronger with each book.
If you were expecting answers to out questions, we are not disappointed, we find out the true heritage of Fallon and what her destiny is to be, but she herself has to take the ultimately sacrifice....
The bond is building stronger on a more "intimate" level between Fallon & Isaiah, their love for one another is becoming a beautiful thing for them, and we, as readers do hope to see this lovely couple blossom more....
There are so many twists and turns you have no idea what's going happen next.
I am excited to see what magic Airicka Phoenix has next.
