Now that she’s been exiled to the swamps of Lebeaux, Louisiana to spend the summer with an aunt she barely knows, she’ll have to deal with the problem on her own. But Lebeaux has its own problems. People are dying here and no one seems to be able to stop it.
New friends and a new guy she’s falling in love with should make for a good summer, but Alexis’ nightmares and sleep walking are escalating and are populated with the wolves she sees lurking in the woods near her aunt’s home. The visions she’s seeing of blood and death have Alexis wondering what exactly she’s doing when she’s sleepwalking and the discovery of her aunt’s bloody shirt makes her question her Aunt Louise’s involvement in the recent deaths. Even the sheriff is giving Alexis accusing looks.
Before summer ends Alexis will learn an ominous truth. One that will change her life forever.
This book isn't bad, but I admit I struggled with it. The content had potential but this was one of those reads where the whole community knows whats going on, the aunt knows, the mom knows, the old lady down the STREET knows and the reader knows. Meanwhile the MC has no idea and carries on in ignorance making exasperating choices and being annoying BECAUSE she DOESN't KNOW. She thinks the neighborhood is overrun with wolf hybrids, her aunt might have murdered some lady the other night and alcohol makes her sleepwalk and have nightmares. So of COURSE she hides the potential evidence of murder, drinks alcohol at strangers parties and is stupidly smug when she realizes that the lock on her door can't keep her in at night....um okay. Dead people and agressive monster dogs... but hey she's too clever to let a lock prevent her wandering about alone at night in the woods. Everyone keeps hinting at things and she just brushes it off, focusing on partying with the local mean girls. We have a Darwin award winner here!
I think this is fine for the kids into the Twighlight saga or Shiver but it's a little exasperating if you want a story that plays out logically and has engaging characters. I almost finished it and still don't care about any of them....She may shift and eat Eric, her aunt may be a murderer and the mean girls may or may not push her in the lake for liking Eric... and I would barely blink. Except maybe to wonder why it took so long.
I liked it but I'm not sure I will look to read more of the series. This is a YA series and I had a real problem with the main female character, Alexis. I just couldn't believe that she was as stupid at times as she was. You would think when people drug your drinks and food and you suspect or find out that as a group they kill people you would choose not to want to be friends with them. And her mother and aunt and the people that had information she needed to make better decisions didn't give her this information just kinda left her in limbo. And to top it off she falls for the son of that other group finding out she will never be accepted by his people. This kinda reminds me of the "Twilight Series" but with Werewolves.
I did finish it and it was ok maybe I'm just not to up on how a 16 year old would act in certain situations.
I really liked this book! My only issue was that the copy I got on amazon felt like it was missing a chapter or 2. The whole new Orleans part wasn't there it was just referenced to a bunch of times. Not sure what was going on with that nut otherwise a great book!
I liked it. I wondered about Eric. hmmm I also wonder about Vincent too....he seems friendly with Alexis. Could she have a predestined mate as well.....I wonder if it could be Vincent
kept me interested, but it took to long for the reveling moment in which she figures out she is a werewolf. I thought the author beat around the bush to much. but it was a good story
Really was a good story! So much detail and love the characters. Didn't like those spoiled rich girls she was hanging with and was scary at times! Great job can't wait to read what happens next
Although the book appeared long, it only took my a full day to read it. Again, a different take on the Were culture. I enjoyed the story and cannot wait to read the next.
This was an interesting twist on werewolves. I really enjoyed it. I kind of predicted a few things, but there were a few surprises along the way. It was definitely a great YA paranormal romance book!
I think a couple chapters were missing in the middle. I enjoyed the beginning but the middle and end fell flat. I wanted Alexis to stand up for herself and she never did.
