I almost DNF this one, to be honest...

No, he didn’t know what ruin looked like. And he didn’t know how to rise from the ashes. I’d make sure he never did. Because I would be the bitch that burned down his whole world.

I was expecting so much more from this book. Finley is a captive of the big bad evil King Dolion, she is in a new territory, yet the majority of the book happens in the dungeon where she is held. We don’t even see King Dolion that much and he is supposed to be The Villain in this series. Even Jedrek was not that important in this book, and let's be honest, he's the reason why Finley is stuck in this mess in the first place. I just feel that there was a lot of potential here that was not well developed or not used at all.

We don’t see much of Nyfain either. I thought he was supposed to be one of the main characters in this series, yet we saw more of Hadriel and Leala than Nyfain. It was disappointing to have Finley and Nyfain separated for so long. Them being apart did not create tension or longing for their reunion honestly, Nyfain was barely present and active in the plot, and when he was there he was not that impressive as a leading male. I kind of forgot that he existed at some point honestly. His only purpose seemed to be a sex toy for Finley. Their romance did not impress me in this book. I much preferred their interactions in the first book, and even in the second book (although I complained in my review of the second book that there was too much smut and not enough plot, it was still better than this third book).

The plot in this book was slow and honestly, nothing really important or significant happened for the first 60% of the book at least. It’s just Finley being held in the dungeon and some weird erotica/torture scenes that I found weird and cringe-worthy rather than hot. There is also a lot of torture, which I don't mind, but I just didn't see the point of it. They were not trying to get information out of her and the torture did not seem to have any goal except to add some angst and darkness to the atmosphere of the book. The pace and plot did pick up near the end, but honestly, I skimmed the book between the 30* mark and the 80% mark because I was just so bored... So even when it did pick up, I was just not invested in the story anymore. The pacing was just not consistent, it was so slow to build toward something interesting, and then it felt all rushed at the end. The whole "Finley being a prisoner in the dungeon" part could easily have been 100 pages shorter.

I was also expecting this series to be a trilogy and I realize now that it is not and that there definitely will be a fourth book, but honestly, I don’t think I will be reading it. I really enjoyed the first book, but after that, it got worse with each new book so I think this series is just not a good one for me.

“Oh, honey.” He tsked, looking over my face and then down to my chest. “I can see your tits in that top. I thought we went over this? Running around showing off your tits is no way to go through life.” He smiled sadly and reached out to grab one of the bars.

Thankfully, Hadriel was there for the second half of the book and he salvaged some of it, but even his snark and hilarious character was not enough to get me involved in this book.

*I received an ARC. Opinions are my own.

Book 3 in series, if you've made it this far, congratulations, you aren't weak at heart. You understand that this is dark PNR and dubious consent, demon orgies, nudity, foul language, and torture in literature do not trigger you or offend your sensibilities.

If I were to sum up this book with a quote it would be:

'I’d really wanted to kill him. I didn’t care about people’s kinks… until they forced me to participate. And then someone really needed to die. That was just logic.'

This read was a little rough as most of the time was spent in the dungeons of a castle, or with the prisoners being used for the entertainment of their demon captors. I appreciated that the FMC was conveniently protected by her bond (this setup was established in previous books) so that the reader wasn't also experiencing what some of the support characters were. Not that torture is inconsequential or anything. It was all a shit show, but engrossing just the same.

My favorite parts (again) involved Hadriel the Mediocre Butler. Bonus: we got a POV from him. Also, there is a new, slightly unhinged dragon that was entertaining. I can't help but feel like the KF Breene Fandom may have inspired some of his lines. Haha.

'“I kinda want to know,” Vemar called. “It is fantastically filthy, Strange Lady, and I’m here for it.”'

This book had resolution, but the end was a bit of a cliff hanger. There's still retribution to be had and some unexpected complications to face. Looking forward to the conclusion of this story. I expect it to be epic.

A Light for Finley in her Darkest Hour

Absolutely masterful writing! I am not exaggerating when I say that this individual story is the best one that KF Breene’s ever written! The sign of an awesome book is when you finish the last sentence; and flip back to reread it. Yes, there is another massive hook (ok kind of a cliffhanger) at the end, but it will seriously be SOOO worth it by the end of the series! This book is already longer than the other two previous ones and blessed be that she’s extending it to four books instead of cutting it short. This is absolutely my favorite series of Breene’s…EVER!

Ok enough fangirling. Seriously, this book is DARK. Even for Breene. But hang in there; because not all is completely lost. We blissfully (and hilariously) get to see some chapters through Hadriel and even Leala’s POV’s which takes this to the next level. I also love how the Demon King’s domain isn’t your standard demon hellscape. They attempt to have this façade of sophistication and humanization that’s surreal yet plausible at the same time. And pay attention to the little details – because these hidden gems will eventually unlock the bigger picture in Breene’s work. After the absolute truth bomb at the end – I immediately said “NO WAY!!” and dove back into the middle of the book to reread to see the details I had missed.

I really have no criticisms. It’s witty; tragic; captivating; and keeps that delicious level of spice (even though for all intents and purposes it seems impossible!). I truly savored this story because I did not want it to end, yet now that it is; bring on the fourth and final book NOW!

felt dragged out for no good reason, this book and the next should’ve been condensed into one. A disappointment after how good the first two were.

Wow, This Gets Gritty & Dark!😳😥🙏💘💥
Utterly Gripping, My Heart Hurt!😭😞💔
A Kingdom of Ruin: (A Dark Beauty and the Beast Retelling) Deliciously Dark Fairytales, Book 3

I've just finished & firstly - WOW!😳💥 Thank you, K.F Breene, for a shockingly gritty, gripping & emotionally charged read. My heart was hurting SO much!😭 I guess the 'Dark' truly arrived in this one. :BOOM:

So the Demon King, Dolion, has taken Finley & Jedrek back to his demon 'kingdom'. They are put in the dungeons. The shock is all of the other prisoners he's got there as well!😲 It's not long before Finley comes to realize she may have miscalculated. She isn't as safe as she expected to be & escape is almost impossible!😭

Hadriel has been left in charge of keeping Nyfain on track. He needs to release all of the kingdom's shifters. Their animals need his alpha power to be brought to the surface in their humans after being suppressed for so long!🙏 For Hadriel, it's taking all of his bravery just to try & open Nyfains bedroom door & tell him he's letting Finley down by moping!😳💥😆 Its then that Nyfain tells him and Leala that they've been hurting his Mate, he can feel it all through the bond!💔 Leala has the answer.🙏

Omg, the continued world build, new characters & the leaps in character growth in this book - breathtaking!🌟 The surprises keep coming throughout, good & bad. But for me, it's the almost crippling feelings of inadequacy that truly hurt the most!💔😭 Hannon is a big brother that we all wish we had or wish our besties did so we could lust after him!🔥😍

The wait for this book was like slowest, pain filled edging imaginable.😍🔥 Waiting for book #4 is going to be worse, imo. You get an ending in this one ... But then we're hit with a giant hook of an actual ending to keep us hanging for more!😀🌟💥
I CAN WAIT, I just don't want to!😂😎😍🌟

0 Stars (Well, 1 Star, since that's the lowest I can go) - DNF @ 36%

This was awful. I have no idea what the author was thinking when writing this. Literally everything decent about the last two books is gone, and we are left with a plotless vessel for (gross) "smut".

Finley is captured by the demon king and is regularly tortured. Nyfain jacks off at home because that way he can bring her to orgasm through their bond, aka making the torture less bad. That's the entire story and I'm 36% in. The massive holes surrounding the curse and their world are still hanging out. Nothing is explained. I'm actually not sure where this is going, or what the point of the story is. I notice the author has a 4th book in the series, so I can only assume she's dragging this one out as a filler.

The sexual bits of this book are gross. Sure, that's a matter of opinion, but it's all so hollow and weird. I hate everything about it. Like Hadriel is "forcing" himself to watch Nyfain jack off because it's helping Finley? Excuse me? I read ahead a bit too and see that there is at least one orgy (the one I came across wasn't with Nyfain or Finley, but honestly I don't think that means this book is without anything extra for those two - but idk).

Altogether, this is just so so so so bad. I would never recommend this series to anyone, and think I'll update my review of the first book to warn people off. This is empty, explicit in a gross way, and should have never been written. I'll avoid this author from now on. I strongly recommend staying away from this.

2.5/5

This felt like a filler book in between the second and the final book. The plot was slow, and seemingly pointless for two thirds of it; we didn't need to be in the dungeons/castle for that long. I get it- Finlay needed allies and help for the overall plot, but nothing else really happened.

It really picked up towards the end, and I enjoyed the ending- which somewhat salvaged the book. I think the next one will be a lot better; I just wish this one was more entertaining and as fast paced and as fun as the previous books. I wish we had spent more time in the other kingdom, instead of spending two thirds of the book in the castle. We hardly even saw Dolion, who is supposed to be the big bad?

I think keeping Finlay and Nyfain separated for that long hindered the plot, instead of helping it; I just got the sense it was used as an obstacle to set up book 4, instead of being conducive for the plot of book 3. The tension, dynamic and spice of their relationship is a major part of why this series is so fun, but because they weren't together at all for like 90% of the book, it left me wanting.

I really hope they can finally get their HEA in the next book.

A Kingdom of Ruin is the third installment within the Deliciously Dark Fairytales series. In this, we are watching two people trying to find their way back to one another. With the previous two books, we know that Finley and Nyfain dancing around the demon king. So, this book was sort of hard for me to get in to. Which, yes, is completely weird to me since I really like these two.

Okay, maybe I should just state that the beginning was slow paced for me. At first, I didn't fully remember how the previous book ended. Then a couple of chapters in, everything clicked in my brain. I remember what went down and why they were in this shitty situation. I still wasn't a fan of what they had to go through, but I had high hopes that they would recognize each other as true mates towards the end.

Eventually things did go my way but dang, another freaking cliffhanger? Also, I'm not exactly sure why his mom decided to show up at the very last second but one could only think it's not a good thing. Not sure if this series will get another book since they have claimed one another and everything. If there is, I would definitely like to more about his mom and everything else. Or maybe she will get a spin off series? Again, not sure.

A Kingdom of Ruin is the third book in K.F. Breene's Beauty and the Beast inspired dark fairytale series so I'm going to assume if you're reading this review you've already read the first two books. I'm going to keep the review deliberately vague to avoid spoilers for this book but events from previous books may be referenced.

I have loved this series from the first book but it just keeps getting better and better with every instalment. After the cliffhanger ending of book 2 I knew Finley was going to be in for a bumpy ride in this book but there was so much I didn't expect from this story, especially the fun new allies she met along the way. Trapped in the demon realm thanks to the bargain she made to protect Nyfain Finley is now Dolion's prisoner and has a newfound home in his dungeon. Her bond to Nyfain protects her from some things but it doesn't stop physical torture from her guards so her life is now mostly pain and anguish as she tries to figure out a way to escape.

I really admire Finely's attitude and the way she is so determined to fight for and protect the people she cares about no matter what it costs her personally. She has earned a lot of respect from friends she made in Nyfain's court and her selfless attitude is starting to rub off on some of them which leads to some interesting developments. I love that we got some of the story from Hadriel's point of view here, his character is just so funny and gave some much needed light relief in places.

I don't want to say much about the new characters that we are introduced to but there are some I absolutely loved and can't wait to see more of in the future. There were some great revelations in this book and things are only going to get more interesting in the next book thanks to the way things ended. Luckily this didn't finish on such a cliffhanger as A Throne of Ruin but it's still left me wanting the next book ASAP.

Safety gang:
- No cheating
- No OW/OM drama
- Violence
- Torture
- D*ath
- Cliffhanger

This one just didn’t do it for me.

The book is mainly about Finley and the dungeon for over half the book and no reunion until 10 percent left.

I know we needed her to gather forces to conquer and win against the demon king but it could of been half the book.

The last 15% was the best part of this whole thing. The fight, the reunion, the end reveal.

I don't even know how to start this review because this book was just.....wow, oh my god, what the fuck, holy hell, but in all the good ways.

The love is conveyed so strongly in this book, Finley is definitely a perfect match for Nayfin, they are both hard headed and stubborn dragons.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, and ignoring all other responsibilities at times. My heart was pounding and my hands were sweating. I usually only get those feelings from thrillers/mysteries, so to get them with a Romantasy is saying something.

I loved the POV's that we got from Hadriel, and Lena throughout the book, Hadriel is easily one of my favorite characters, even if he does have a tendency to lose control of his bowls at times when Nayfin is angry.

I can't wait to start the next book, but I also don't want this amazing series to end.

I am so tired of getting what I think is the final
Book in a trilogy and see it end on a FUCKING. CLIFFHANGER.

AUTHORS. I BEG.

Wrap up your story in three books please.

I
Can’t
Take
This
Split
5
Book
Narrative anymore.

This instalment has a lot more plot than the previous two books. I am not a fan of the split narrators - I really don’t care to be inside Hadriel’s head and it’s weird when it comes out of nowhere in the third book.

Finley is everything in this book.

She is absolutely magnificent.

I love the strength of her convictions, and she really shone in this book.

She was a fierce, strategic leader and so so patient.

I wish the book was a little longer and wrapped up the entire story but ah well.

The demon king was barely around?? It was more about the guards and the prison. For all Finley’s time at court, the demon king is a very aloof antagonist.

It is definitely a unique approach and a lot of the terror comes from his ingenuity in keeping people trapped.

4/5 stars. One star taken away for the fucking cliffhanger. And the wait begins AGAIN.

This was simply outstanding! Every book in this series has just knocked it out the park, and this one was no exception.

I love everything K. F Breene has written, but this series has a slightly different tone to it than the other one's I've read. It's filthier for one, and there's a darkness there, too. However, we still have that wonderful irreverent humour from characters like Hadriel (he and Leela are amazing in this book), which is balanced perfectly with the awful things that also happen.

I don't even know where to start with unpicking this book, so I'm just goigg to say that you absolutely must read it if you like utterly gripping, well characterised books with a sizzling romance that you will be 100% invested in then you must read this series. It's seriously one of the good ones!

This is a dark (as stated), twisted story. This kept me on the edge of my seat for almost the entire read. What surprised me was the evolution of Nyfain's story. Granted we see a lot of Finley but for me Nyfain's plot is surprising.

Finley and Nyfain's mating comes full circle and the curses are over. However, someone has risen to take their thrown. *cue dramatic music*

Now I do agree with some other reviews, there is a but to much smut for me. The storyline and characters are exceptionally strong so all the pages of just smut seemed random and took away from the plot.

This is a very unique interesting series! I can not see where we go next!

Happy reading,

3.5⭐️ another filler book with a better “plot” than the second.

First, can I just say, I 10000% thought this was just a trilogy and I’m slightly furious that now I have to wait for what the hell is going to happen next?!? Ugh! That ending, I thought for sure was going to bring everything to a nice and tidy conclusion. But noooooooo. That was sneaky and I don’t appreciate it lol.

I would have very much liked to see Nyfain’s point of view trying to hold things together back at home rather than all the fluff at the demon court.

Still very entertaining but I’m not totally satisfied.

This was a little disappointing considering how much I loved the second book. My expectations were high and normally that’s my first mistake, but I really thought this author would come through for us??

There was a lot I wish she’d done differently, but most importantly (to me) we needed a lot more of Nyfain and a much better version than the one she gave us.

I’m still obviously gonna read the 4th, but I’m hoping we get more of book 2 type stuff and not so much whatever this was.

Spice Scale: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Heat Scale: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

This series definitely became one of my favourites for many reasons. I love the story and the characters and it's fun while still having a solid plot.

I enjoyed this book just as the previous ones but I was missing Nyfain. My heart was bleeding for him at the end, the way he thought about himself and how he was taunted by Micah.

I really adore the fact this series puts a spin on the usual hero/heroine dynamic and the real damsel is still him and not Finley.

There are a few things I can't wait to see in the final book, one of them being finally meeting Hannon's animal (and maybe the lady who will have his heart), the other being Nyfain's mom's role in the curse because right now she's suspicious for a lot of things.
