After her fiancé penned a “Dear Katie” letter, Kate Stillman vowed she’d never give a man more than one night. Free from emotional entanglements, she’s had some hot one-night stands, her heart has stayed off-limits and her photography career has skyrocketed. It’s the perfect plan until a Miami getaway brings her face-to-face with Peter Barrett. Hunky rocker Peter has been pursuing Katie from afar ever since she photographed his band. In the flesh, it’s clear it was more than flirtation. Katie gives in to their sizzling chemistry, thinking Peter will appreciate her one-night rule. Instead, he balks and extends an invitation for a second night of pure abandon, an offer too tempting to refuse. When they part, Katie realizes her rule protected her heart only too well. Time away from Peter leaves her wanting him more. Every steamy late-night phone call makes her wonder if she can love again. But when Peter returns and her trust is tested, Katie must overcome her past to learn that love her way was never the way at all.
Karen Booth is a Midwestern girl transplanted in the South, raised on 80s music and repeated readings of Forever by Judy Blume. She writes steamy contemporary romance and women's fiction. When she isn't creating fictional hunky men and the women who test them, she's listening to music with her kids, honing her Southern cooking skills or sweet-talking her astoundingly supportive husband into whipping up a batch of cocktails.
Clichéd. Less than average. Shallow. Bland. Melodramatic. Cheesy. Annoying heroine.
At a hotel's bar, Peter Barrett, guitarist for Slump, is "rescuing" our heroine Katie from a pushy guy. However, Peter is immediately proving that he is overly pushy himself. Katie already knows Peter and he seems to be dangerous territory because he is interested in her. He'd made that obvious the day she'd photographed his band, when he was flirting for hours. The story takes it from there.
Let me get down to business. I can't say that I liked Love My Way. From the get-go the story and characters have struck me as rather shallow and clichéd. Peter is winning my award for very lame conversation.
"You're cute." My head dropped closer to his as if he was the metal and I was the magnet. (Baba: "Wow.") "I've had better reviews." (Baba: "That's quite possible.") "Sorry. That was just the first thing that came to mind." (Baba: "Men. I'm sure he was thinking about something entirely different. I don't think I have to elaborate further.")
Before they get it on…
Peter came up behind me and wrapped both arms around my waist. He gently kissed my neck and muttered, "I'm a good guy, Katie, I swear." (Baba: "Whew. What a revelation.")
And now we're coming to this memorable c*ck scene:
"Mmm," I said and took him in my mouth. I sucked softly, riding his muscular length from base to tip, pausing to tease the ultra sensitive ridge of the head with my tongue.
Seriously?? *rolls eyes* I had to read it twice. A penis is NOT a muscle. Imagine, Pfizer could kiss the Viagra goodbye.
Another strange example:
He sucked my breast into his mouth, starting a staggering cycle…
Again. I find this kinda odd. What about a simple nipple, huh? You know when a guy is sucking a woman's breast into his mouth, then this stirs up some mighty strange pictures in my mind. As it is, very unpleasant pictures and frankly…what a turnoff is that? *shudders*
Another "nice" example:
He unleashed a sly smile. "I didn't want to say anything, but your boobs are filthy." (Baba: "WTF? Do you think this is funny or a turn on?? If you want to talk dirty then do it right! OMG, please spare me.")
As I mentioned before this guy is winning my award for dumb conversation.
Katie. The woman with the purple flecks in her eyes. Sorry, but I can't buy this cr*p. What an annoying heroine. Katie's rules. Katie only has ONS. Katie doesn't do relationships. Katie has to be in control. Katie is insecure. Katie is afraid of her feelings. Katie is afraid of getting too attached. Katie can't this. Katie can't that.
And Katie's stupid ass deed almost at the end of the story slumped (PUN INTENDED!!!) Love My Way to a one-star rating. Ridiculous! Gah! I was mentally telling her "Please, don't do this, Katie." Needless to say she did it anyway. So incredibly predictable and so overly melodramatic. *shrugs*
Oh God. This is what it's going to be like. Me fighting with other women for him. I can't do this. This was my only chance to protect myself before I got hurt. It was time to turn around, get in a cab and never look back.
I can't believe it. Katie is another heroine so full of preconceived perceptions.
Uh…what's this? Oh, now the proverbial light bulb went on.
It dawns on sweet Katie that she f*cked up. Now we're a bit frantic, huh? Yes, please, pull your neurotic self together and right a wrong. Thank you, Katie.
The sex was hardly earth-shattering either. As it is, it was rather bland, and it suited the whole novella.
This was the first Karen Booth book I've read, but it certainly won't be the last! Kate Stillman, a confident and in control on the outside but scared and insecure on the inside, photographer has one of the coolest jobs on the planet. That job brings her face to face with Peter Barrett, guitarist for Slump rock band. He's sweet, sexy, self assured, and just a tiny bit arrogant . . . and he knows exactly what he wants: Kate Stillman.
Having been through a painful breakup, Kate is afraid to open her heart and let her guard down. Rock stars had been an ideal match for her--content with one-night stands and casual goodbyes. But this one is different. He wants more and he's brave enough to push for it. When Kate and Peter bump into each other in Miami, things heat up almost instantly. But Peter's a rock star, leading a rock star life, which finds him back on the road to the next big gig.
She thinks she's rid of him, but the dozen lavender roses he sends her DAILY (Guh, I want a Peter of my own!), the phone calls, sweet notes, text messages, and 2 AM rendezvous force her to rethink her rules and make room for the hot rock star with the geeky glasses in her life and her heart.
I don't often read books written in a first person narrative, but I really enjoyed it in this instance, particularly during the steamier scenes. And there were a lot of those. Mmmhmmm. I absolutely loved the all-access-pass I had as a reader at the rock concerts too.
I completely fell in love with Love My Way, and this line helped to get me there: “I told myself that if I ever found the right woman, I would never let her get away.”
This is the second book that I have read from Karen Booth and I loved it just as much if not more than Long-Distance Lovers. Love My Way was a satisfyingly sexy read!! I immediately fell head-over-heels in love with Peter. He was just so sexy, charming, caring and sweet it was impossible not to fall for his character. I loved the relationship between him and Katie. The shower scene was just plain HOT!!! I definitely want my own Peter!! LOL :) Love My Way was exactly the type of romance book that I enjoy reading. It was entertaining right from the beginning. I loved the flow of the story and how it was basically centered around Peter and Katie with not to much in the way of secondary characters. Just a great romantic sexy read!!! I will definitely continue to look for more from Karen. 5 out of 5 rating.
Karen Booth so very graciously sent me Love My Way to read and review and I did so with pleasure!! :)
Cute rock star romance. Quick read too, which is nice sometimes but I didn't feel a real connection with Katie. Peter was sexy & a sweetie, which was a nice change from most musicians who seem cocky and are male whores.
I love story lines with rock bands in them. The authors always seem to be able to paint a picture that what we think we know about that famous rock star is not necessarily true. In this case, is hot guitarist Peter proving to photographer Katie that he is a one woman man and she's his woman.
Katie's been burned in the past and she's done everything that she can to protect her heart from being broken all over again. One night stands with hot guys is one of those things. But Peter breaks the rules with her and demands more than just the one night. As Katie gives in, she finds she adores the man behind the guitar. The man who sends her roses, wears glasses and likes her cat. But Katie's insecurities rears it's head and causes her to question everything. Anyone who's had their heart broken can sympathize with Katie and understand why she's trying to protect herself. But you also had to wonder if she was really going to let a man like Peter get away just because she's afraid. In the end, she did need to confront that fear and realize that not every man would be like her ex-fiance and decide to take the leap.
Peter has pursued Katie since his band hired her to photograph them. But while Katie might flirt with him, she always seems to push him away. But when they meet, by chance, in Miami, he thinks he's finally going to be able to start something with the elusive Katie. But Katie's past hurts get in their way, but Peter is not willing to let Katie go. He does whatever it takes (standing outside her apartment in the middle of the night) to convince her that what they have is special. Peter is a man you will absolutely fall in love with. He's a sweet, romantic man that wants a woman to love him for who he is. He finds that with Katie, but he also knows that he has to go that little bit extra to prove he's not like her ex. When most men would cut and run, he stayed until their relationship was fixed.
I enjoyed this one and wished there could have been a little bit more to Katie and Peter, as I wasn't quite ready to let them go.
I love me a good rock star, and Karen Booth knows just how to write them for me. Instead of just creating the obvious and overdone "bad boy" rock star one-nighter, she writes her rock stars with heart and soul. I love that I can "feel" the whole rock star image, but then also get to know the real person inside the tight jeans with a low-slung guitar. (just my imagination working overtime there...sorry.)
So, when I heard that Karen was bringing Love My Way back with an expanded story line and some of the greatest phone sex I could ever imagine...I was totally on board, and the book did not disappoint. The new chapters allowed for some extra character and plot development, and took what was originally short, sexy romantica and let it all play a little longer for a much more satisfying finish. Well done, and I look forward to more!
Sizzling rockstar romance! Karen Booth knows her rock stars, and I love the rock stars she creates! Booth's music gods are always the perfect mixture of hot, uber-famous, drool-worthy, yet grounded and finally ready to find his one true love. Her heroines are always believable, smart and relatable. And then there's the sex. *swoon* Damn. Karen Booth can write a sex scene.
The heroine, Katie, is determined not to get her heartbroken again, so dating a rock god seems *completely* out of the question. Only, Peter won't back down. He's got to have her, and he's used to getting what he wants. The heroine is really likeable, the hero is smoking hot, the sex is steamy, and the romance will get you in the Feels. One-click it!!Rock Starred: Love My Way
Bad relationships can leave scars on our hearts. And sometimes, those scars can interfere with our best intentions to move forward with our lives. That’s the place Katie’s at when Peter walks into her life, determined to sweep her off her feet. My heart broke for the pain Katie had survived, but it rejoiced to see the sweet way Peter cared for her. I loved seeing her growth and healing, and that ending was positively adorable.
I loved this story! I want a full length book, but am glad I found this short version of an awesome rock star love story. Peter & Katie are surprisingly well-defined, given how short the story is. And Gwen, Mrs. G & Max are great side characters! I love a good, sweet rock star story!! If there is any chance we could have more, I’d be so happy!
More like 3.5, but we round down like men. Super cute and with excellent characters, but it just felt really rushed, with not enough time spent on the characters getting to know each other.
Love My Way was the perfect quick, hot read I was hoping for. Y'all know I usually avoid novellas because they usually leave me wanting. And while I wouldn't mind getting more of Katie and Peter's story, I'm quite satisfied with what I got. :)
Katie Stillman is a young, successful, and independent woman. She was hurt badly when her fiance dumped her a week before their wedding. Katie has dealt with that pain by immersing herself in her photography career and by indulging in one-night stands. She controls her love life/emotions by adhering to a strict set of rules when it comes to men. And it's worked up until she met Peter.
Peter Barrett is the guitarist for the band, The Slumps. He met Katie when she did a photo shoot for the band. He feels it's serendipitous when they meet again in Miami. Peter sets about convincing Katie to break her rules...for him.
I really enjoyed the progression of Katie and Peter's relationship. They seemed to have a connection beyond the physical. Peter was very clever and persistent in breaking through Katie's walls. I also loved seeing Ms. Booth's passion for music and knowledge the music industry conveyed in the story. It's clear, in the details, that Ms. Booth knows and loves rock music.
Even though it was short, I was pleased with the emotional growth Katie underwent. She had to learn to let go of her baggage, and it wasn't easy to do. Peter, though, was a man on a mission. He knew what he wanted and wasn't going to let any silly rules keep him from it. I do wish we'd gotten a little more background for Peter. I felt I knew Katie more deeply and having that same knowledge of Peter would have enhanced their love story.
Love My Way was a very satisfying read. It gave me likable characters, great music and some fabulous steamy scenes. It was exactly the escape I was looking for.
**I received an ecopy of this book, from the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
Heroine is not nice at all... One of the previous reviewers wrote that the heroine seems cold and calculating, but thought that this was fine because the heroine blooms as the book comes along and ends up being likeable, in fact this and other (only 5 star) reviews was the reason I purchased the book. In 1822 kindle locations, however, I am not sure there is "room to bloom" and as I read this book I found I had a different opinion. I disliked the heroine from the get-go and found it difficult to read the book at all because of this. I was bored in the first chapter, it reads like poorly written erotica, not romantic at all. There should have been some buildup of her past relationship and the initial meeting between Peter and Katie (unless this is a spin-off book in a series), because it was distasteful to me in that Peter was into her and trying to be nice and she came across as a user and he knows and accepts it. I guess this trope has been used over and over but in the other direction where the man usually has been so hurt that he thinks it alright to be hurtful in turn to women. It is never admirable to read that and similarly put a bad taste in my mouth in this book, where the woman does this. I haven't finished the book and won't.....but if you like to read romantic female characters who are calculating and have multiple X one-night-stands, then maybe you will read this boring book.
I've chatted with Karen Booth for awhile now but hadn't ever gotten around to reading her books. She's awesome, and I know now her writing is great too! In Rock Starred our leading lady, Kate Stillman is a talented photographer that snaps pictures of famous bands. One of the band members, Peter Barrett, is flirting hardcore with her and you can tell he's really interested, but Kate is hesitant. You see, she was engaged to a guy not too long before then and he was a jerk, it didn't end well. It's caused Kate to not trust men, and not get into any relationship or anything with strings attached.
A bit of time passes and Kate and a girlfriend decide to have a girls weekend. They hit the road and decide to pamper themselves in Miami. They get there, they're having fun and imagine Kate's surprise when she realizes the hottie from the band has a show in that town and he spots her while they're out and about. I feel like in quite a few rock star books the guy doesn't have to work all that hard to get the girl. But in Rock Starred, Peter is wooing Kate as best he can, and she's slowly letting him in. I enjoyed the change of pace, and I really loved Peter's character.
Rock Starred is an enjoyable novella that had me wishing for a rock star of my own. I enjoyed KBooth's writing style and already know I'll be picking up another of her books in the near future. She wrote the characters realistic and Peter was such a sweetie. I recommend this for any rock star lover out there.
Katie Stillman refuses to put herself out there again where men are concerned, after her fiancée dumped her two weeks before the wedding and with just a note explaining why. Taking no chances of getting burned again, she sticks to her policy of one night stands when she needs a higher level of intimacy.
Rocker Peter Barrett knew the second he saw a picture of beautiful photographer Katie that he wanted her. Developing a friendship with the hopes of something more has proved challenging as Katie has yet to want to cross over the friends line with him, but one night of succumbing to both of their needs has Peter knowing he wants more, now he has to get Katie to realize he is worth taking a chance on.
You feel for Katie in this story, she is so worried about reliving the hurt she received when her ex-fiancee walked out she is scared by her feelings for Peter. Peter is swoon worthy, he understands her reluctance and is more than willing to work through them as long as they talk them out. Perfect story for the summer as you escape into a wonderfully written romance.
Karen Booth has done it again with this sexy tale of the rock star and his charming photographer. I didn't think Booth could replace my last book boyfriend, but Peter Barrett kicked him to the curb!
Katie Stillman is the epitome of realness. Surviving your worst breakup is a story most women have. I could definitely relate to Katie and her need to keep her distance from men. Just use them for what she needs and move on. She's has her work to keep her busy and that's all that matters. She has no time for love, or so she thinks.
In struts Peter from her last photo shoot and he is everything hot, wholesome, that oh-dear-lord we all want in a man. Folks, I don't want to spoil it for you, but he wears glasses too. Rawr! Peter is persistent to boot, but in a sweet way. His antics had me swooning all over the place.
Booth writes one smoking hot novella with a fantabulous chemistry between the two that melted my kindle app. Add in some music mayhem and a best friend that keeps it real, and you have yourself a fantastic book.
Be mystified by Peter and let his woo sizzle you into madness.
This book had an unusual turn on the rock star romances that I am used to reading as of late. In this one the rock star had already lived the “good life” they experience when they first get noticed and make it big and had lost the love of his life when that had happened. He had sworn that if the right person came around again, he was not losing her.
Peter had his eyes set on Katie when she was doing professional photo shoots with his band. Katie wanted nothing to do with relationships because she had sworn off from making anything past the one night stands. Katie had made this rule because she was dumped the week of her wedding to another man and never wanted to feel that hurt again. Needless to say that Peter had his work cut out for him.
Even though this book had the different twist of loyal, loving rock star looking for a committed relationship and the woman he was after was the one who only wanted the one night stand, it was well written. It had me anyway. It was a quick read and hard for me to put down.
This is the first book I have read by Karen Booth and it is great! I've already gone and purchased several others that she's written. She makes her characters so believable and their stories so interesting that you want to stay involved. In this book we meet Peter, a guitarist in a popular rock band and Katie, a rock band photographer, that Peter is interested in. Katie was dumped by her cheating fiance one week before her wedding and is now totally distrustful of men and relationships. She doesn't want to give Peter a chance because she's afraid she will fall too hard. He is very persistent. So the story revolves around Peter trying to convince Katie that he's serious. Hmmm, will it work? I guess you'll have to read it to find out!
This was a cute story... probably closer to 3-1/2 stars. I didn't feel like there was a whole lot of conflict until near the end, when Kate jumped to some conclusions. I liked that Peter was so into Kate from the get-go. He gave her no reason to be concerned about him or his commitment to her, other than the fact that he's a rock star. To be fair, her last serious relationship ended when her fiance broke the news he was in love with someone else, so she's a bit gunshy. And a rock star? He's offered so many choices on a daily basis... why would he "settle" for Kate? (That's her thinking too hard.) Anyway, it all worked out, and it was cute to watch Kate let him in. It did seem to end quite abruptly. I'm not sure how much more story I expected, and it ended in a logical place, but it was just kinda like "bam, we're done", and I wasn't expecting it.
Katie does her best to keep her distance from a relationship after her last one ended with a note. Enter Peter, the rock star. Katie tries her best to talk herself out of getting involved in any way at all with Peter...but she has a best friend to give her all the reasons she should give him a chance.
How can a photographer and a rock star have a shot at something living in different cities? Buy this book and you'll see how it turns out.
Karen's writing will pull you in and keep you engrossed in her characters. She has a few other romances involving rock star's also including Bring Me Back and Back Forever. I've read several of Karen's novellas/novels and I will continue to be a reader because I can't get enough!
I didn't read the "original" so this book was entirely new to me, and I enjoyed it. Although >.> re-reading the blurb, I think I need to re-read this book also.
I love rockstar romances. I especially love it when the rockstar (in this case the hero) knows how his life could be - but also is grounded, which he is in this case. He pursues the heroine, and is earnest.
Really lovely romance, with a slightly recalcitrant heroine, someone who is trying to protect herself, but is won over regardless.
Another winner by Karen Booth. I loved Peter and Katie, and not only understood Katie's rule about risking her heart, I understood Peter's determination to make her abandon her rule for him. The 144 roses were a fabulous touch -- I would have been convinced, so I'm not surprised Katie eventually was, too. Warning: this was a little hotter than I normally read, but the author handles it with sensitivity and it's never gratuitous.
Overall a wonderful story with a happy ever after ending that was not predictable.
Cute, quick read, sometime steamy romance between a rock star and a photographer. The photographer is still recovering from a fiance that walked away with another woman the week before their wedding. Her way of dealing with it is to never have anything other than one-night stands. But the rock star manages to wheedle his way into her heart. Well worth the $0.99 special price when it was first published. Will look for other reasonably priced books from this author.
This was the first book I read from this author. This was a cute story about two people that work in two difficult industries to find time to settle down. The rock star and famous photographer meet at a photo shoot. She has a hard time falling in love due to past circumstances. He was the person who hurt someone previously. They seem so cute together and hope things work at the end. It does leave you wanting more but loved it.
I really liked this book ALOT. Peter was one determined man. I love that he was so smitten with Katie from the very beginning. He was honest and so sweet. Oh my goodness I wish someone would send me roses every day they were away from me. I wish this book was longer though. I wanted their story to continue. This was a great quick read.
*3.5* Fun, quick read with plenty of emotion and hot-steamy-rock-star sexy times! Peter is adorably relentless as he chases after Katie. Would have liked an epilogue...because that's how I roll! I hope we get a book with Gwen's HEA!
