When I started reading the first 20 chapters, I thought that I'm going to hate it. I just don't like how Jae-Min the male MC's misogynistic ways and stalking activities. Seriously he's such a hypocrite when he hates girls touching and fawning over him but then he does it to Ma-ri. I really hate double standards so I did not swoon over him at all. Probably the main reason why my rating is not that high.
Although the male MC did not win me over, I must admit that I like Ma-Ri's character. A modern vampire completely drawn to Jae-Min's sweet blood. Very Twilighty eh? One thing for sure, I like her better that Bella Swan. Vampires co-exist with humans, they are mostly extinct but they are considered as second class citizens, and even though there's a treaty they are still feared because they drink blood. However they have evolved to drinking pigs blood instead, but still they are forced to move from one place to another because of discrimination. As a result, Ma-ri maintained a distant relationship with any of them to protect herself. But I guess no species can survive alone. we all need to form a bond; a connection to others to be completely happy. I'm glad that Ma-ri was able to gradually open herself more to others.
This supernatural webtoon/manhwa was very realistic in portraying racism and other prejudice. It's in Vampires nature to drink blood, The difference in food preference should not warrant harassment from humans. Same goes with color, gender, cultural beliefs, religion and sexual orientation. I'm quite happy with how the romance turned out, and the ending was just right, it's not the happily ever after ending but it felt real.

What a beautiful story, I think that this one is such an important one because it deals with topics such as racism and bullying in a very subtle way.
We follow the story of Mari, a vampire that has to hide his real identity in order to not be rejected by the society, she just wants to have an ordinary life like everyone else, having friends and someone who loves her for who she really is.
She dreams of a day in which vampires are no longer fear but then she goes and fall for a guy that despises them, it heartfelt and raw and full of hope.
I think if you like webcomics, you should definitely read this one.

FAVORITE!
This one I think is one of the best manga/manhwa I read so far. I just love it.
First of all its oozing with the K-Drama effect. This is actually I think the third manhwa I read and its colored! Oh boy, that is just a lot of effort. Although I can say that they focused much on this amazing pictures and scenery that there is not much 'action' (the plot) on every chapter. That also means that when I'm reading downloaded chapter and there are corrupt files, I dont worry much if a really lost something. The opening and ending credits gave is that K-drama feels, like watching an actual korean drama anime. I'm not complaining.
Here's a sample so you know what I'm talking about.

And to end each chapter.
Amazing right?? It dont know if its normal in manha, but it just gives an aura like watching an anime. Ignore the other additional boxes. They are not really a spoiler, soooo.
On the story, I can say that I was really hooked. Although it just a little slow, And by slow, Their first kiss happen on Chapter 49 of the second volume and their second kiss on Chapter 70+. Although the guy really confess that he like Ma Ri on the VERY early chapter. You know what I'm talking about?
I was sometimes annoyed on how they Ma Ri tried to avoid the guy and saying she doesnt like him MANY TIMES. I think it happened over 3 times? Well, At least I love how the guy responded to it.
And Si Moon (?) The guy with the white hair, (They called him Whittie in the comment section). I hate how he responded in the end with Chaerin. That bitch! A bitch slap wasnt even enough.
I also live that Ah Ra doesnt really do any harm to their relationship. Except of course that one issue when she learned about Baek Ma Ri being a vampire. God, that is just annoying. Although the special chapters where her pranks are being shown are really funny. How can she be always angry anyways? Although Im really hoping that she will somehow gonna end up with Whittie =(
Its sad though that there is not much interaction with Whittie and Ma Ri. And Whittie could have at least talk to Ma Ri before leaving. I actually somehow root for them, a little, so they can have a small vampire family. Too bad humans and vampires cannot have a family though =( Poor Jae Min and Ma Ri.
But overall, this manhwa really got me. Some scenes are freaking good they got me like this.
One question though, Why is it titled 'Orange Marmalade"? Does it means something in Korean?

This is the first book I have read where the female MC is a supernatural character, in this case a vampire and the male MC is a normal human who hates vampires. These are high schoolers and the female character must not draw attention to herself for fear of expulsion. But things take a turn when the most popular guy of the high school starts falling for her and she becomes the subject of envy for other mean girls.

This is one of my all time favourite webtoons!! I found it when the Kdrama was releasing and read it once I'd watched the show and I'm just so in love! It's so good!! I love the MC's so much and the romance is really cute I love it so muchhhh.
If you've read the webtoon I really recommend the show (it strays from the plot a bit and changes some things but it was still something I just lovedddd watching!)

I'm few chapters away from the ending but I felt the need to say something about this webtoon right away.
The vampire and human relationship was promising but then every character has a toxic trait. I tried to be understanding since this was written around 2011 but it's just not it. 😫 The male lead, Jaemin, stalked the protagonist and keeps on annoying her before they got into a relationship. The vampire boy, Shihu, is harsh and he is followed by an obsessive vampire-fanatic who proclaims herself as his girlfriend. Mari is... Mari.
The only relationship I approve of is Mari's friendship with the girls. They said mean words about vampires becuase they know nothing about them but they were the first to accept her wholeheartedly.
I'm surprised at the high ratings; probably 'cause it's a popular webtoon. I'm still curious about how this ends but I think nothing's gonna make me change my rating. This is just my opinion.
I'll recommend reading "Days of Hana" by the same author. It has a similar concept of racism but this time, they're werewolves. Less toxic character trait from the protagonists.

Um, yeah, this is fine, but not my thing. The characters are very forceful (all of them, as far as I can see) and it's a little off-putting for me. I don't really like the way it's told either and there was so much text all the time (a lot of dialogue bubbles) which normally isn't a problem, but in this case, the flow of the writing didn't feel engaging and seemed like info-dumping/personality-dumping.

I read this whole series in just over four hours and finished after midnight.
I was desperate for something to take my mind off things, and this worked splendidly.
I'm so glad I found it, really, by mere chance.
It begins like another other romance novel with a twist: these teenagers live in a world where vampires are apart of society-- but that does not make them accepted. Conflict comes from the main girl hiding her vampire nature from her friends and the boy she likes. This brings a lot of fun conflict and deals with many teenage and highschool issues regarding school work, friends, acceptance, family and love.
Then you hit the two thirds mark and shit hits the fan.
Suddenly you are faced with strong moral dilemmas about what it means to be human and fault of human nature-- and things just spiral further and further out of control.
These characters, and plot lines will stay with me for a while.
I wish I could buy this series.
Better yet-- I wish there was an anime that followed exactly to the manga.
That would be perfection.

3.8 stars. The feels, cuteness and social commentary was there, it's just that the angsty drama was too much for me.
To tell him I'm a vampire, or not to tell him I'm a vampire? What's it going to be? So much back and forth: I like him, I don't like him, I love him, but I can't be with him? Which one?!
Understandably Mari's situation isn't as easy as being with Jaemin but I was skipping through half of it until they both finally realised they had to fight for their love.
Nevertheless I appreciated Mari's strength and her courage to fight for her happiness even if the love of her life couldn't accept her for who she was. I really admired her in those moments.

I burned through Orange Marmalade's 119 chapters over on Webtoons. I was in one of my "I need something easy to digest that will made me feel happy" reading moods, and this series was a perfect fill for that. What I particularly like about this series is that it revolves around vampires who are "accepted" by society, but are still discriminated against. Orange Marmalade revolves around a female high school student, who happens to be a vampire, and a male high school student, who happens to hate vampires. And I bet you can guess what happens next.
Give it a read if you want something cute with fangs :)

It's very rare that I don't finish webtoons, but this was an exception because it came to a point where I realized finishing it was not worth it. The fact that this is a "Daily Pass" series didn't help, either. If I was able to binge it, maybe I would have seen this through to the end. Even that was unlikely, though.
Note: I only got to chapter 71 out of 119. I also read the English translation available on the US Webtoon app because I cannot read Korean.
The story's romance was a slowburn. It was back and forth between "Will they or won't they?" with the main character (Ma Ri) and love interest (Jae Min). I never got to see them actually date, but honestly, I'm glad because the love interest, Jae Min, is insufferable.
Jae Min in a huge misogynist. This isn't a matter of opinion or subtext; it's very obvious. The reasoning for this is because of his "mommy issues" (or rather, in this case, step mother issues). While his trauma is obviously valid and I feel sympathy towards this character, he projects his views of his stepmother onto every other woman. Ma Ri, the main character and his love interest, is no exception. Jae Min is a character who I am supposed to be rooting for, but he obviously treats her poorly. Even when his misogynistic tendencies start to go away, Jae Min isn't really redeemed.
As mentioned before, I only read up until chapter 71, but I did read Wiki posts/pages to see how the story ended and what happened leading up to the ending. Basically, after Ma Ri and Jae Min have been dating for a while, Jae Min finds out Ma Ri is a vampire (Oh yeah, did you know that this is a vampire story? Because I genuinely kept forgetting while reading.). This pisses Jae Min off, he hates her for a while or something. I think Ma Ri attempts suicide at some point? Yeah, this relationship sure sounds healthy. Good lord.
Si Hoo is a love rival of sorts that gets introduced, too, and he's a vampire. However, he's not even worth discussing. He barely does anything in the chapters I read besides be a menace. He's arranged to marry Ma Ri once they're older, but this is ignored after a while. Si Hoo's Wiki page has a lack of information, so this makes me wonder if he faces any development. I guess I'll never know!
In regards to the "Will they or won't they" trope, so many chapters of this story could have been cut out entirely because they felt like they added nothing to the story. Ma Ri runs away from Jae Min, Jae Min ignores Ma Ri, etc. It feels like these events are repeated. This webtoon is just a drag to get through.
The side characters are all right. Soo Ri and Woo Mi are nice characters. I like them. That's about all I can say about them.
The story on its own is mediocre. It's an average school-life romance with the addition of a vampire girl as the lead. The only major element driving this story is the romance between Ma Ri and Jae Min. All other subplots are underutilized, sidelined, or ignored.
The writing isn't anything spectacular. There was one (or two, I'm not exactly sure) chapter where the ableist R slur kept being used. It was really random, unnecessary, and uncomfortable to read. The use of the word made no sense with the context of the characters or story. It seemed like the author only wanted to use it as a synonym for "stupid," which I disagree with entirely, because the character is never shown to be a bad person for using that word.
This webtoon is truly not worth reading. This comic would not even be worth reading if it were free.
This is the one vampire story where you can't say it's a better love story than Twilight.

This got me thinking about what I would do if one of my friends was a vampire, hahaha. I liked their first meet, it was one-of-a-kind to me... then, their interactions went on to be a bit dull. After the newer characters were introduced, I found the plot to have thickened and it was more enjoyable (which was at around 60-70 episodes, I think). Personally, I found their romance to be OK, like normal high-schoolers (obviously apart from the fact that FL is a vampire, hahah).

In all earnestness, I've seen Orange Marmalade around and kicking for a long time except I was not interested in reading it. Well, here I am--I read it. And it was alright.
Our main girl is Maeri.
Our main guy is Jae Min.
We have the tragic, adorable 3rd wheel, Si Hoo, who I love to hate to love and breaks my heart :( . From this...

They only drink PIG blood and humans are not freaking out over themselves for EATING ANIMALS. I'm sorry but every time that issue came up I felt myself cringe inside.
-How the webtoon was played out felt like a kdrama (WHICH IS WHY THERE IS AN ADAPTION!) but this means there was more drama than needed to be which took away from developing the romance tidbits.
All in all, a nice read with vampires and romance and feels :D.

They only drink PIG blood and humans are not freaking out over themselves for EATING ANIMALS. I'm sorry but every time that issue came up I felt myself cringe inside.
-How the webtoon was played out felt like a kdrama (WHICH IS WHY THERE IS AN ADAPTION!) but this means there was more drama than needed to be which took away from developing the romance tidbits.
All in all, a nice read with vampires and romance and feels :D.

Personal Response: My response on this webcomic is that it is very good and very interesting. I really love how the author put both sides as to why people feel the way they do about vampires and how not everyone thinks the same way. She is very good at making it very understanding as to how Mari feels during the whole story and how much she stays strong. People and their words can break others down to where they do not want to feel anything. Mari almost loses Jaemin because she is a vampire. He sees vampires as being these horrible monsters, when really he loves one so much he is terrified to lose her. He even drinks pig’s blood for her and he is human! That is just gross, but it also proves he does not care about what she is. He loves her and he will do anything for her.
Plot: Orange Marmalade is a webcomic series about vampires who were once hunted to extinction, but for the last 200 years there is a peace treaty between humans and vampires. Now vampires are living amongst the humans hiding their nature by drinking only pig blood. However, vampires are still predators by nature and still desire human blood. This is a story about a vampire named Baek Mari who tries to conceal her identity from the world. Seeing vampires as monsters, the humans shun them and wish they would die out already. Mari's life turns around when Jaemin's sweet-smelling blood makes her lose control of herself, resulting in biting his neck. After this incident, Jaemin begins to have interest in her and keeps chasing her. She slowly develops a love interest for him. Later on in the story, she and Jaemin finally start dating.
Jung Jaemin: He is charming and an extremely skilled basketball player. He is one of the most popular boys in school, but he cares the least. Jaemin is shown as a misogynist, but the reason is not that he really hates women. In truth, he hates their touch as it reminds him of his stepmother who used to beat him up for everything. His life starts to turn around when his sweet-smelling blood makes Mari lose control of herself, resulting in biting his neck. After this incident, he is confused of his feelings and keeps chasing her to try to make the situation clear. He even joins the Band Club. As the story progresses, he falls in love with Mari and cares for her the most. He is ready to beat anyone who hurts her. He is smiling more when he is with Mari. He asks her to never leave his side. Later on the story, he and Mari finally start dating.
Choi Soori: Soori is Ma-ri's first friend. She initially does not think much about Mari. She becomes entranced by Mari’s guitar playing after witnessing it by chance. She persistently tries to get her to join the band club. Soori is originally openly hostile about vampires. She even bad mouths them in front of Mari, who she has no idea is a vampire. Mari gets injured in the process of saving Soori’s life, and her entire opinion of vampires changes. She becomes protective of Mari, even standing up for her when Ahra finds out. Soori's mother is ill with cancer and she's constantly worrying about her.
Do Woomi: Woomi is Mari's second friend, via Soori. When she finds out Mari is a vampire, she accepts her without hesitation. However, she grows a bit scared of her after witnessing Sihoo drinking Chaerin's blood, even more so after an incident where a vampire seems to have attacked and killed someone. That incident is later revealed to be a hoax by some anti-vampire criminals, but Woomi is still timid with Mari for awhile. After Mari's identity as a vampire is revealed to the school, Woomi regretfully watched as Mari is ridiculed and bullied, but eventually overcomes her fears and regrets and befriends Mari again.
Jo Ahra: Ahra is the antagonist of the story. She sees Mari as her rival for Jaemin. She constantly tries to intimidate Mari, but all her attempts fail miserably. Ahra finds out Mari is a vampire and tries to use this against her, but she is stopped by Sihoo. Later, she joins the Band Club. She begins to act nicer towards Mari but still tries to steal Jaemin from her. When the whole school finds out that Mari is a vampire, Ahra becomes very protective of her, as shown when she takes Charin's phone when she tries to report Mari to the Vampire Reporting Center and threatens to wipe Chaerin off the face of the planet if she hurt Mari. She seems to care for Mari at the end of the season, but usually denies it.
Han Si-hoo: Sihoo is Mari's fiancee who is later introduced in the story. Due to the shortage of vampires, he and Mari are arranged to be married since they were both very young. He doesn't trust humans at all and thinks highly of himself. Yet, he also seems to have a caring side, as he defended Mari when Ahra threatens to tell the whole school that Mari is a vampire. When Ahra joins the Band Club, he joins too in order to protect Mari from her. He likes Mari and gets agitated when Jaemin hurt her feelings and makes her cry. He later confesses that he likes Mari and asks her what she likes about Jaemin. How can she be going out with a human even though she is a vampire? Sihoo is also known to drink the blood of Chaerin, who self-proclaims herself to be his girlfriend, but he later reveals he never had any emotional attachment to her. At the end of the story, he and Chaerin disappear as he claims that his kind of vampire is no longer allowed to exist.
Setting: The setting of Orange Marmalade is based in the 21st century, because the people have smart phones, laptops, and the technology is the same as what is used today. The story takes place at a high school in Japan. This is important, because in the spring the cherry blossom trees bloom. Also in the winter, it snows and the air outside is cold. The setting being in a school shows they are still teenagers, and it makes sense with all the drama.
Recommendation: I would recommend this webcomic to anyone from the ages of 12 to 20 around sixth grade to college age. It sends a really great message that it doesn’t matter who or what a person is. A person is a person, and they deserve respect and love just as much as everyone in the world. It shows that even though people find out what Mari is, she doesn’t let it get to her. She stays strong and carries on with her life, even after her whole world is destroyed.

Orange Marmalade was alright. I prefered the Days of Hana.
I like how the author writes about discrimination towards others in an ohterwise "modern" society like ours. I think it's really important to remember that things like bullying, discrimintation, racism, etc. still exist in the world today. Stories like Orange Marmalade bring awareness to that.
The plot overall was good. I don't know if I like Mari Beok. Mari always runs away from her problems, which frustrated me sometimes. She was way better than a lot of ya novel main characters though. Mari stood up for herself. She said no when something made her uncomfortable. She was as strong as she could be with the constant comments her classmates made about vampires.
Didn't really like Jae Min. He was sort of a flake and a creep. Jae did not respect Mari at all during the beginning of the comic. No means No and Jae didn't respect that at all. It wasn't romantic to me. It was just unsettling and wrong. Jae kept bothering Mari time after time, and wouldn't stop. When he found out she was a vampire... he left her. Just like that. I guess he had internalized aversion towards vampires, but still. He told her he loved her, and if he really did Jae Min would accept her for who she is. But I guess ae was alied too, and all that.
The other vampire? He just left.
Overall, alright comic.

So far I've read 3 manhwas this one included and all three were great. The other two were psychological, heart touching and funny. This one was not at all disappointing either. There were vampires, not scary ones. There was romance, the sweet and kind one. There were many funny moments to laugh on. And, sad moments that mad you cry. There also were moments when the scenes and story kinda made you realise that even if vampires don't exist in real world, discrimination does exist. So the plot and story was mind blowing, really interesting and thoughtful through the series. Characters were interesting and lovely, some got on my nerves and irritated me but it was okay as it was all for developing the plot and characters. Art was A+ amazing! Loved the art and scenery and colours! Wow!
I would recommend this to all. It's not Twilight or The Vampire Diaries. Don't compare this amazing story to them. There might be some places you feel like it was same as them but NOPE. Not really. I loved everything about this series.

I know I'm old for this high school romance but I just can't really stop myself from reading this manhwa. There's no age limit when we're speaking about love and being romantic so I'll just continue reading the rest of the volumes. So far, I'm enjoying the story and looks like I will finish this within a week or less.

Nothing is standing out for me so far in this one as it feels like we're still in the exposition, but I'm actually enjoying this more than the drama so far — the guy is a lot more likeable (albeit a little weird at times) and I overall enjoy the dynamic between the characters more. I'm still waiting to see if the manga will do a good job with intertwining the band plot and the vampire world-building, as I felt like it was really disjointed in the drama.
