Who is the perfect man? Ad executive Melissa Brock might not know the answer, but she does know it’s not Sam Curtis. But with time running out and no flawless male specimen in sight, Mel has no choice but to try and pass off the former soldier as the real thing for her next campaign. Her business partner claims Mel only needs to “smooth out Sam’s rough edges,” a comment that has her reaching for a sand blaster. Confident, irrepressible, and sexy as hell, Sam has an unerring talent for finding trouble and more appeal than any man has a right to possess. Against her better judgment, she finds herself falling under his spell. But Mel has to wonder: is she falling for her own Mr. Right, or under the hype of her own campaign?
I took advantage of this when it was a free e-book. I don't often read romantic comedies, so I'm not sure exactly what I was expecting.
The book was light and fun - but it did have its deep elements...especially when we discover why our hero is making the "sacrifice" of becoming Mr. Right.
I hadn't expected two romances to be spotlighted in the story, but they actually worked well together as each relationship helped to cast a light on what was going wrong (or right) with the other.
I enjoyed the family dynamics brought into play - Mel's brother is a good sounding board without coming across as "preachy."
Yes, I've seen other reviews that said this book was a little predictable, and it was, but in a good way. I think I could best describe this as having a "Lifetime holiday movie" feel to it - light, sweet, and a nice way to pass the time.
This was a very cute little 3.5 rounded up to 4 star read. It did start a little slowly for me and it took me a couple of chapters to get into the book but once I got there I really did enjoy it. There were some very amusing and laugh out loud moments as well as some really touching scenes. I ended up liking the characters very much and by the end of the book I was sorry that it was over. A very cute little read if you are looking for an easy to read contemporary romance.
Faking Mr. Right is one of those romances where it is really just about the physical attraction. It was fun, and could be humorous at times, but it was missing something for me.
Mel is trying to find Mr. Right for an ad campaign. She mistakes Sam as a model auditioning for the role, and sparks fly immediately for both of them. Of course he gets the job, and they have to work closely together. He doesn't make it easy as he definitely goes after Mel, but she is just trying to stay away from him. She wants him, but she doesn't trust him. He has secrets that he doesn't want to share, nothing really horrible though. Just a bad childhood and he tries to keep his other life secret so the press doesn't bother his other friends/family.
Mel could be a bit annoying at times. She is one of those characters where she doesn't want to date anyone because she doesn't really trust men, she has never had the mad sparks she feels when she is with Sam before. She just doesn't know what to do so she is kind of hot and cold all the time.
Sam seems like a nice guy. He is trying to help out his uncle and help run his uncle's bar. He was just a good guy. He falls for Mel somehow, but she doesn't make it easy. Of course everything works out in the end, and it was a fun read. I enjoyed it, but since it was just a physical attraction kind of thing I just needed something more.
The one thing I didn't like about the story was the added storyline of the uncle, Tommy, and Rosie. I didn't understand why they were added to the story. I didn't really care about them, so it didn't matter to me what happened to them. I just found their storyline a little odd. A good book overall though.
Melissa´s boss has a great idea for their next PR campaign, to pitch "mr Right" and send the winner on a date with him. Too bad finding mr Right isn´t as easy. Mel finally stumbles upon someone at the water cooler, he´s got the looks, talks the talk and best of all, the boss Jeff already knows him and can twist his arm to participate. Sam is only there to see his old friend Jeff and beg for a loan to help him in a family crisis, but without him realizing how, he´s signed on as the one and only mr Right. A quick, fun read with a couple in their thirties finding their way together. Fluffy smut and a second couple finally getting their HEA, too.
At no point did I get even the remotest impression that Sam was insincere or a womanizer and so every single character in this book's insistence that he was insincere was irritating.
The only time that it was reasonable was at the end when Sam .
Also Jeff annoyed me, no matter how lucky he was, putting a "friend" or an asset into the position that he did (the mob of women) is inexcusable. Just because the women were attacking a man does not make that behaviour okay! Double standard are not cool people.
I found this to be an original, fun contemporary romance. The story flowed well and really kept my interest all the way through. I really liked most of the characters, especially Sam (what's not to like!), Rosie and Mel's assistant Casey. Not too fond of Jeff, he seemed a bit of an odd one.
This was a lighthearted read that will make you smile-especially the mistaken identity introduction we get to the story-with a bit of spice toward the end. Some grammatical/editing errors, but not enough to detract from the reading. A solid four stars, leaning toward 4.5. And the sweet side story of Rosie and Tommy adds a nice touch.
This was a great romantic comedy that I truly enjoyed. Ad executive Melissa Brook is working on the Mr. Right campaign when a problem comes up and she needs to find a new Mr. Right now. In the foyer is waiting gorgeous looking Sam Curtis who Melissa thinks is a model. It turned out he was Jeff's,her business partner's, childhood friend. Even with the mistaken identity Jeff and Melissa hire Sam to headline a national advertising campaign. This is how the chemistry begins with Sam and Melissa. This is the first book that I have read from Kerry Connor and it won't be my last. There were a few typographical errors but I really enjoyed the unique story line that I still gave the book 5 stars.
Generally, this was an amusing and pleasant read--for about 85% of the book. The characters were well-drawn and the dialogue great, then it seemed like the author just let it droop. The hokey break up/reconcile thingee at the end was so silly and cliche it was like the author said "Oh my, I almost wrote an original story, I can't do that, this is a romance and I must change to a generic cliche to make sure that I don't produce a quality story." The Tommy/Rosie story did not add to the book and distracted from the main plot--like excess fat that needs cut off of the steak.
I loved this book. The only thing that kept it from getting 5 stars was the editing. There were so many errors with double and missing words that it interrupted the flow of the story. The beta reader in me cringed every time another one was found. I wish I had gotten my hands on this before it was published. I hate reading a book that has so many errors that should have easily been corrected by an editor or beta reader. All in all, great story....just needs polishing.
Don't know why so many authors think it's cool to have H/h spitting hate at each other the first time they meet. It would be really dull if they treated each other with respect, right? Though they hate each other's guts, it doesn't stop them from lusting after one another. Not my cuppa and not my idea of a romantic story.
Really enjoyed this story, an uptight lonely career woman meets hot ex soldier at a casting for Mr Right ad campaign. The instant chemistry is apparent but once they have to work together sparks fly. Loved the characters Mel, Sam, Tommy and Rosie.
An excellent easy read would be perfect for the beach.
Sam was charming. Show me he's charming. She told him about herself. Really what is her favorite book and movie? Why? Give me a scene of a woman fondling his butt not just one where he complains about it. Less tell more show.
The plot is quite weak while the chemistry between main characters is hugh in the predictable way. Sometime I got annoying with detail author made it such a big issue. Overalls, it's worthy for time I spent in airplane. For free kindle, I quite impressed.
Good characters, funny dialogue, and sweet romance. I really felt connected to Mel and Sam. Though there were a lot of typos that need to be fixed, missed words and that instead of than. But the story was too good to let that lower the rating.
I got this when it was free and I loved it. Sam and Mel were perfect for each other in that they give and take. Neither one of them take anything from the other, they stand their ground as they learn to lean on each other. I also loved the side story is of Tommy and Rosie.
It was a fun book Great exploration of characters. Depth of personalities. A great poolside read. A gentle reminder not to waste time being scared of going for it.
This story is a wonderful collection of words that this author has put together to create a story that everyone can relate to. I would definitely recommend this as a fun read.
The best part of Faking Mr. Right was the character dialogue; it was witty and gave depth to the story. The sub-plot of Tommy and Rosie added to the story. You need to read this full-length book to find out the complete story of Mr. Right and Mel (Ms. Right).
This was one of the best books I've read in a long time. The author did an incredible job making you laugh and cry. The bantering between the main characters, was exceptional. Great read!
