3.5 stars-- Simple, brain candy story about a 22 year old American college student and a 38 year old Brit billionaire.

Sounds familiar? The not as worldly college student getting bent over a businessman's desk? I like that trope. And this was good enough brain candy which I need at the moment so I was happy.
"I'm going to come," he panted. "I'm going to come in your ass, and then I'm going to pull out, strip this condom off, and you're going to clean me up."

This quote gets the party started and made me even happier.

Nathan gets forced to help his twin sister out by delivering coffee to the Griffin Trust Group - a bunch of office sharks. But Nathan catches the eye of the biggest shark there, Charles Griffin. In a few days they have some nice foreplay before the main event.

That main event was the best part of the story.
"That's because you've only slept with boys before. I'm a man. And I'm going to fuck you."

After that office fucking, the story gets choppy. And that ending made me a little pouty because I wanted more. This gave enough but didn't explore. If it did, it could have been a solid 4 stars from me, at least. The writing was competent, the characters were likeable enough.

Sadly, I have to lump this into the PWP with some plot category.

But it was a nice distraction for an hour or so.
Recommended if you're in need of that too.

It falls mostly on the "sexual" side of romance. HOWEVER, Nate's voice as the main narrator is completely amusing (so many great one-liners) and there is one HOT scene involving a one-sided conference call.

Other than that, hmmm, Griff is still end up an enigma (for the story is taken from Nate's POV only), so I don't get enough reasons to believe why they're together. And, since this is rather short, the ending is a bit too abrupt.

I loved this! Hot, hot hot! It is so much fun but it's also really intense. For such a short story this just packs a punch, there's
great dialogue and characterization here as well. Nathan and Griff just burn up these pages.

It's one of those short works where I just wish that it was longer only because I want to read more and more of them together. After the first few highly charged encouters in Griff's office there's a bit of time jump and it's fun to see these guys working around being more to each other.

I'd have loved to have more details here, like seeing the dinner party or Thanksgiving but it doesn't ever feel like there's a hole in the story at these points. I just want to know what happened because I enjoy these two together and want to spend more time in the story with them.

There's an age difference here, Nathan is 22 and Griff is 37. Griff is smoking hot and British.

Recommended for anyone wanting a quick, hot read that has some lovely layers.

So cute, Griff has a sexy magnetism that is irresistible and Nate amusingly has more than one reaction which goes embarrassingly wrong. He suffers from foot in mouth disease a delight and very funny, he can't help but be seduced by the charismatic Griff. Loved it, so sexy and the foreplay was *ice oneself* erotic goodness. I Definitely want to read more about these two, the ending arrived too quick for my liking.

Very, very hot novella about a college student and a successful businessman. I like first-person narratives best when they have some spark, and thankfully Nate's point of view is amusing and fun to read. I thought this might end up being just erotica, but the chemistry between Nate and Griff does grow into more. I don't dislike short stories per se, but I so wish we had been able to witness more of their relationship as it developed. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for something light and sexy, though.

Hot office smexification. You know the trope: young college student and older business magnate fall into lust and do the dirty in the office place. They do it against the wall, they do it on the sofa, they do it on the conference table, they do it by video conference. Forget anyone walking in, forget stains on the carpet. Steamy, kinky smexification. It ends abruptly with more to be told but this short will get your knickers in a twist... fo sho.

I hate it when a book turns out to be such a tease! It starts out really good, both the MCs are great and then about half way it stops making sense and then abruptly ends as if someone took an axe to it! Argh!

I hate it when something that has such amazing potential is quashed in such a rude manner!

Hot, steamy and cute, but way too short. I want to know what happens when he meets the parents. Glad to hear that we will be getting more of these two. Can't wait.

I'm sticking with my word, Fluffalicious. Basically you have your familiar work-place fantasy set-up: meek college boy + hot older billionaire = sexcapades. The story itself is very bare-bones, with no attempt at anything in the way of psychological exploration, motivation, angst or whatevah--which good IMHO. It's well-written, with a winningly wry narrator, the sex scenes are hot, and the whole thing is NICE AND SHORT.

Major downside: the ending just cuts off practically mid-scene, blatantly making clear that this 56 page story is really just the first half of a longer book. And since the first part cost a fairly steep $3.99, I'm seriously considering taking a pass on the rest whenever it comes out, since at that price point the whole will end up costing a ridiculously exorbitant 8 bucks! (And that assumes there is only one more part!) Honestly, with a scenario this predictable, there is no reason to read the whole, so those of you in the mood for a well-written workplace PWP need not let this drawback stop you.

An m/m version of a Harlequin Presents, turned on its head. If it had've been a little longer it could have been a B+. If not for this line, it would have been a B:

You drug me over and made me spend two hours playing Win, Lose, or Draw with the Mississippi cousins! [my emphasis]

The word is dragged. /rant

Otherwise, this was a delightful, funny and sexy short read about 22 year old Nathan, who gets roped into doing his sister's Starbuck's delivery to Griffin Trust one morning. There he meets the gorgeous and older (37) Charles "Griff" Griffin and pretty soon they're having "interludes" in his office.

Jen did a great review of this at Brief Encounters. It's a steamy sweet romance without a lot of angst but some very hot smexin and a bit of an age gap and a definite financial gap between the two men. Smexin' at the office hasn't been that hot in a while and Griff's comments about Starbucks coffee tasting like burnt hair endeared me to him from the start. A great short read although I would have loved to see Nathan's parents' reaction when they realize who he's dating.

Steamy short m/m romance about a college student whose twin sister blackmails him into doing a dreaded coffee delivery for a financial trust. In the elevator on the way to the delivery, he drools over the handsome older Brit...

Shitty, generic gay shades of grey, PWP bit of writing that is averse to showing, to charting a relationship, to characterising, and avoiding cliches. A waste of $.

Those who want to indulge in just-sex-scenes and a Brit (told not shown) should enjoy.

Slow Burn is an absolutely delicious sexy, romantic short story. A quick paced fast read, I didn’t want to put it down. Yes folks, this story is pretty much PWP with a bit of plot to move the story along. But I’m not complaining. This story is scrumptious. I loved the distinctive character personalities and the nicely detailed scenes. I only wish that the story was longer.

This is told in first person through Nathan’s eyes, a twenty-two year old college student and programming geek, and how he gets roped into delivering coffee to the employees of The Griffin Trust by his outspoken, dramatic, pushy twin sister, Julia. While on this coffee delivery at the Trust, Nathan meets Mr. Griffin, or ‘Griff,’ as he asks Nathan to call him. Griffin is British, thirty-seven and incredibly sexy. As soon as they meet they are pretty much lusting after each other.

I loved Nathan’s voice. The author did a great job of getting Nathan to sound young, impulsive, and horny for Griff. I immediately got hooked into Nathan’s bright and cheeky personality. We didn’t get to hear much of Griff’s voice unfortunately, but we’re given the impression he is a commanding presence and possibly a Dom. Julia, Nathan’s sister is the perfect annoying sibling. She’s outspoken, aggressive and loves her brother, but is not above manipulating him to get what she wants.

I really enjoyed this book, I just wish it was longer and the author had gone into the personalities and the relationship more. I would have loved to see how the meeting with Nathan’s parents over Thanksgiving had gone.

Slow Burn is filled with hot sex and is angst free. It’s the perfect fast and fun read when you need a break from “smack upside the head” type of characters in other books. I would happily read more on this couple if the author continued on with their story. I give this story 4.5 stars only because it’s too darn short. But I’ll round up to five stars because GR doesn’t do halves.

I really enjoyed this novella! The characters were well developed and believable, given the circumstances, and the writing was witty and well-crafted. I confess to having a men-in-suits kink, which was completely satisfied by this book, and the title really does the story justice as a description. Nathan was endearing and fun, and Griff was just the sort of chill, stoic alpha male with unplumbed depths that I enjoy. And the sex... So good:)

The only thing I didn't enjoy about this was having it come to an end. A big, abrupt end right before we got into some good stuff. Kudos for making me want to read more, Ms Douglas, but damn it, now I want to read more! Remember that if you're ever stuck for something to work on.

3.5*

A very sexy read, about Nathan a 22 year old student and Griff, the head of his own Trust!
Cinderfella kind of story that I liked a lot, but it really ended at the beginning!
I really wanted to see the business dinner Nate went to and Thanksgiving with the folks!

Merged review:

3.5*

I read this one a while ago and since it's a short one I decided to refresh my memory.
It's hot, full of sex, an age gap, a big dominant hot successful rich man and a cute, sweet, enamored young college kid.
Griff is pretty pushy, but Nate loves pushy and right when it got to the good part, the feelz and emotions it ended!
It ended . *sigh*

2012 Review:

Oh yeah, that was great. Sadly just a short story, but hey, I’ll take what I can get. This first-person narrative amused me and somehow managed to juggle the sexual and emotional aspects perfectly.

Admittedly, the ending’s kind of abrupt. It could have ended a chapter before, or could have had another few. And I still want more of this couple, heh.

Ah, this makes me happy.

Why did I do it? I must be a sucker for punishment. I thought Fire Inside was just an anomaly, and that not all Dawn's books could leave one hanging. How wrong I was. Guess I'm definitely done with this author.

This book was perfect in that it knew it was a short. It didn't have the rushed feeling of insta-love. It was more believable that way. I just wish it had been longer.

Why do authors do this? Why do they leave the reader hanging? It happened here at a defining moment for Griff and Nate. A moment I would have liked to read about. As a reader that's bloody frustrating, I'm left feeling a bit cheated, a lot dissatisfied, gnashing my teeth and hopelessly wishing for a sequel.

The story is sexy, the characters very likeable, the cover...yeah (I so want to suck that finger.) *clears throat* it's well written and I would read this author again. The ending? No, no, no!! Give me more, right now!!!

I'm off to perv at blue eyed men, in good suits.

*4.5 Stars* rounded down for the ending

Slow Burn is a fun and sexy May/December romance that quickly swept me into the lives of the main heroes, Nathan and Griff. This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Douglas and it definitely won’t be my last. I enjoyed the easy style of writing this author has and look forward to reading more books by her in the future.

When Nathan’s sister asks him to deliver a big tray of coffee up to the top floor, he reluctantly agrees. For one thing, he doesn’t even work at the coffee shop; much less know the differences between a latte and a cappuccino. As he’s in the elevator riding up to the top floor, he meets a very interesting and attractive man named Griff. Although Griff is older than the other men he’s dated in the past, he can’t help but become instantly captivated by Griff’s take charge attitude and sexy demeanor. Soon, a little flirtation turns out into a hot, steamy romance between them. Both men push each other’s sexual boundaries and end up having a whirlwind affair. But will the sexual chemistry turn into something more meaningful between them?

I really loved this book! I enjoyed the sexual tension and heat between Nathan and Griff. The sex between them is smokin’ hot and I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve from something almost purely physical to a deep emotional connection. The story is told in first person, which admittedly is my least favorite point of view, especially when it comes to reading romance. But since Nathan is such a fun characters, I enjoyed seeing his thoughts and witnessing the relationship between him and Griff through his eyes.

My only gripe about the book is: I wish the book had been longer. I really liked both of these characters and I would have loved to really watch their relationship build into something truly special. I would have enjoyed seeing them really work at making their relationship work after the ‘newness’ of it wore off a little. But all in all, I thought Slow Burn was a perfect way to escape my everyday ho-hum life for a couple of hours. If you are looking for a quick and sexy read, Slow Burn by Dawn Douglas is definitely the book for you!

It was good until the abrupt non-ending. and then I really wanted to stab something because it just...cut off.

Well, while it lasted, it was pretty good. Engaging, and all that.
There did seem to be a couple jumps in continuity. Anywhere it wouldn't have been anything but for its length (and ignoring the non-ending), I kind of would have wanted a little more towards the middle to solidify it.

I just wanted a nice short story and this one fit the bill and actually pleasantly surprised me! Good writing fleshes out a hot story of instant attraction and two kinks lining up perfectly; a ‘boy’ finding the perfect strict older man. I also liked the HFN with implied HEA. A bit of an abrupt ending, but again, better writing than anticipated, this is my first by this author but not my last!

Holy cow it was so close to being a 5 star. The sex scene was one of the best I have ever read and I have read a lot but there was not enough of the scenes it was a little disappointing. It was also over way to fast I know it was a short story but damn I really wanted more.
