Kelly McWinter is a former Fort Worth police officer who suffered a personal tragedy that caused him to quit the force and isolate himself in the community of Indian Creek, Texas. Kelly is the Clint Eastwood, John Wayne type of man who makes everyone feel safe. The characters at Indian Creek are so unique and eccentric that readers and reviewers alike have fallen in love with the regulars who frequent Cam Belcher's Hideaway Bar and Barbecue.
Tammy from Fallen Angel reviews describes the Kelly McWinter P.I. mysteries as "A fabulous mixture of Texas humor, heart-pounding action, sexy nuances and mounting suspense. There's plenty of excitement, plenty of intrigue, a local flavor to tickle the toughest of taste buds and a good serving of hot, steamy romance to titillate the senses."regulars who frequent Cam Belcher's Hideaway Bar and Barbecue

I got caught up in the story right from the start and was kept guessing nearly until the end. Pittman has a very casual, style of writing that made me like her well-rounded hero.
Deadly Secrets, Kelly McWinter P.I., Book 1 by author Jude Pittman was a fast, enjoyable read that kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire book. Set in the uniquely beautiful state of Texas, it was an entertaining whodunit that I would easily recommend.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
Book Review – Deadly Secrets: 2nd Edition, Kelly McWinter PI
Author – Jude Pittman
Genre – Suspense, Mystery, Crime
First Line: In the act of stepping through the front door at the Hideaway Bar and Barbecue, Kelly paused in mid-stride.
Review: Kelly McWinter, a thirteen year veteran of Fort Worth Police Department, resigns after the loss of his family and moves to Indian Creek to take up a security position at a large flea market. After five years away from big city crime, he discovers his “detective” mind-set and instincts snap to attention when forced into action.
Ms. Pittman introduces each player into the story with precision and flair. Kelly McWinter, the main star of the show, reminds me a bit of a Jesse Stone personality – the handsome loner, his head full of P.I. wisdom, with a faithful dog by his side. I liked him right away.
The suspense builds naturally with all the developing events of mishap and murder, which carries the story to a surprise ending. I liked that it isn’t predictable: ) And I like that there’s another couple of stories following this one – Kelly McWinter now has a reputation to uphold in this reader’s heart.
Recommended - if you like cozy or suspenseful mysteries.
I almost gave up on this book a few times because there are a lot of mistakes in it that greatly cheesed me off. Usually I decide before I'm a quarter done with a book but even as far in as almost halfway I was vacillating as to whether to call it a day or not....it did improve but only because the story did, the mistakes kept on coming. I have the other 2 in the series downloaded and will definitely give book 2 a go, anyway. I liked Kelly, the "star" of the stories and also a doggy sidekick will always appeal to me as well. The book is one of those that finishes at 91% in, though, and the remainder is adverts for the rest of the series-another pet peeve. There were spelling mistakes-such as gravely and not gravelly and jives instead of jibes. Also a LOT of missed speechmarks and then, lo and behold, they appeared where there was no speech just to rub it in ! The name of a particular restaurant was Angeles then Aneglo's then back to Angeles depending on which page you were reading, there were apostrophe mistakes as well and also quite a few missing commas, too. So you can see why I was getting disheartened !! But it was a slow starter and DID improve, trust me.
Kelly McWinter is an ex-cop who has been grieving over the death of his beloved wife and who suddenly finds himself in the middle of a mystery.
This is a mystery from beginning to end, and just when you think you’ve realized who the good person is, you realize you’re wrong.
This mystery is wonderfully woven together in a tapestry of suspense, lined with intrigue and lightly edged with romance. Every time I thought I knew who was who, and what was what, I was wrong. Ms. Atkins did a lovely job keeping the suspense through the entire story. If you enjoy suspense and intrigue, this is a must read. It is beautifully written.
book 1 of the series. the hero is an ex cop who retired when his wife was murdered and went to live in a small, rural town in Texas. he becomes broiled in a local.murder and sordid secrets are revealed. he's bamboozled by a pretty blonde.
Hmmm... I don't want to give any spoilers away but it was not what I expected. But to give the author credit, it was a good story and worth the read if you enjoy mysteries.
