THE SEARCH FOR A TRAITOR

As the demon world celebrates the defeat of the Dark Lord, the vampire Santiago’s mood remains bleak. He still yearns for the sensual, raven-haired Nefri, who has inexplicably disappeared. But brooding for Nefri is a luxury that Santiago does not have. His traitorous sire, Gaius, is unleashing a violent scourge upon the mortal world, and Santiago must stop him before it’s too late...

LEADS TO A DANGEROUS SEDUCTION

To her dismay, the all-powerful Oracles have sent Nefri on her own mission to find Gaius, and failure is not an option. Nefri’s search leads her to the vampire’s abandoned lair—and straight into Santiago’s path. It’s clear Santiago intends to seduce her, but then an ancient, banished evil reappears, threatening to thrust the world into a madness it cannot survive...

I'm not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother's knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I'm not admitting how many) I'm still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

A pretty good installment in Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series. This one features the vampire, Santiago, who runs one of Viper's infamous demon clubs, paired with legendary vampire clan chief, Nefri. It's the first vampire/vampire pairing in the series.

Overall, Santiago and Nefri are good together. She's all beautiful icy reserve and he's all arrogant, smoldering hotness. They run around the Midwest in search of Santiago's sire, the vampire Gaius, who survived the last book and is about to unleash some new apocalypse. The book did feel a bit disconnected from the rest of the series as really only Styxx, Viper, Jagr, and Levet make appearances in the story. No Salvatore, no Harley, no Darcy, or any of the other were, vampire, fae, or djinn characters which was a bit disappointing, especially since Styxx had a large part so Darcy in particular being left out felt odd.

In all honesty, Santiago and Nefri aren't hugely memorable characters and the Big Evil isn't all that terribly interesting. The whole story is a bit anticlimactic, following Cain and Cassandra's book, in which the Dark Lord was finally defeated (and which was also a reunion book with all of our favorite characters appearing throughout and aiding in the big battle at the end). But, Santiago and Nefri pull out a victory and find their HEA in a satisfying manner.

The much, much more interesting part of the book was the substantial secondary storyline given to Roke, clan chief of Nevada, ordered by Styxx to hang around Chicago, and he does so in delicious bad temper, managing to irritate, intrigue, and interfere with a cute, powerful, little witch who is an unhappy resident of Styxx's dungeon. I don't want to spoil the identity of the witch but the set up of her relationship with Roke, given substantial page time in this book, left me eager to read their story and really made Darkness Avenged much more fun than it otherwise would have been.

I think the writer should have stopped the series in the previous book when the dark lord was defeated. Now trying to find other beings as evil as the dark lord to fight and continue the series looks like a waste of time in my opinion. So, I am finishing this series without continuing it even though the next couple sounds fun.

I just finished listening to Darkness Avenged in audio, and I really liked it.
This is book 10 in the Guardians of Eternity by Alexandra Ivy.

It's been a hot minute since I have dived into this world, and I was hit with that nostalgic feeling. I came to love this series a long time ago, and I am lucky enough to have the 13th book in my possession. (arc)

This book was really good, It had not ONE but TWO romances involved.
I love how Alexandra creates a world that you can just close your eyes and feel emerged in, the audio was fantastic, I really loved listening to it. I was loving our main characters Santiago and Nefri. but to have Sally and Roke as the second story was brilliant., I loved how it all connected and we saw some beloved passed characters.

This story had me on the edge of my seat, and it was really intense, as them hot sex scenes!

With it being book 10 and me not having read book 9 since forever ago i thought I would have been lost and I am so happy I wasn't. I am dying to jump into book 11 with Roke and Sally. Sucks though that it is not in audio!

I love that they all found there mates, and i just really enjoyed this instalment. Its way to hard to even explain this series as a whole. TBH its easier for you to go hunt book 1 down and start from there.

Alex has squeezed so much awesome into this installment of her Guardians of Eternity series. It almost feels like two books in one. Readers are not only introduced to what I am assuming is the couple for the next book, but we are given an amazing amount of page time with that couple. I have to say I cannot wait to read their book. They are already intense. Their book is going to be out of this world! As for the main couple for Darkness Avenged I enjoyed them in Fear the Darkness so continuing Nefri and Santiago’s story was a pleasure.

Santiago to Nefri, “Oh, I haven’t even started my mauling. This is only a small taste of my pre-maul.”

Hello sexy alpha male that any woman would swoon into a puddle over. Santiago is a man that when he sees something that he wants he takes it. He doesn’t ask he just takes. In his long life he has grown used to getting exactly what he wants when he wants, except when it comes to Nefri. Nefri is not a woman that one just takes though. She is a powerful ancient that all kowtow to without question. Santiago luckily has enough sense to recognize her for who she is, but everything that makes him male also makes him notice who she is to him.

Nefri to Santiago, “Your lack of manners is only exceeded by you complete arrogance.”

Nefri has an intriguing history that once revealed answers so many questions about her and many of the Veil questions. Nefri is an alpha in her own right. She has accomplished things in her life that no other vampire ever will. The combination of that her time behind the Veil has left her different, changed, evolved, there are so many different labels that one can give her. Her request to the Commission to take her clan beyond the Veil makes so much sense. The Commission’s reason for the Veil is a whole new drama that added an immense amount of excitement to the book.

The Oracle Siljar tasks Nefri with the same job that Styx sends Santiago on. For the most part it is a clean-up job that has a derailment side job. It is 100% adventure. They have no desire to work together. The sexual tension is palpable. They want each other so badly they figure distance is the only way to prevent the inevitable. Their story is definitely at towards the top of favorites for the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire witch (trying to be vague and spoiler free) side story and cannot wait to read more of that! From what I read it will be a heavy thread in the next book. The character involved is fascinating and the history is already lining up to be explosive.

The paperback ARC I received of Darkness Avenged has the Levet novella in it. I do not know if the retail mass market paperbacks will be the same, but it is definitely something to look into. If anything it would save you $2 if you were planning on buying both of the books anyhow.
The Guardians of Eternity series needs to be read in order from the beginning to get the most enjoyment out of it!

~ 4.5 Darkness Avenged Stars ~

Darkness Avenged is book ten in the Guardians of Eternity series by Alexandra Ivy. AIvy has squeezed loads of awesomeness into this installment. It’s full of action, romance, and plot twists and turns.

Santiago and Nefri had to team up in the last book, Fear the Darkness, to help stop the Dark Lord, so ever since that team up both have not been able to get the other off their minds. Santiago is a sexy alpha male that would make any girl droll. I was total enthralled and loved every minute of Darkness Avenged. Not only do we get Santiago and Nefri, but AIvy does an amazing job foreshadowing/setting us up for our next couple, Sally & Roke. I loved having two couples in this novel. The twists and surprises kept me glued to the pages. Levet is also back and his usually self. I was also fascinated by the Oracle and evil plot that is in this story.

Darkness Avenged is a fabulous read in the Guardians of Eternity series. I could not put it down and had to pick up the next book, Hunt the Darkness, just to learn about our next couple. So good! I highly recommend this book and series! Each book can be read as a standalone.

Santiago is suffering from the loss of Nefri, she disappeared soon after the destruction of the Dark Lord. His moods are effecting all those around him, including the guests at the demon club. Styx shows up and tells Santiago that he needs him to use his bond to track down his sire, Gauis. Reluctantly, Santiago agrees.

Nefri has returned to the veil and her clan, but the Oracles aren't done with her yet and send her on a mission to find Gaius. Leading Nefri and Santiago on a collision course.

Santiago wants to imprint himself on Nefri so she can never leave him again, but an ancient imprisoned evil has escaped and threatens the world.

Meanwhile, Sandy (Gaius's witch) has turned herself over to Styx. Scared for her life and the madness eating at Gaius, it was an act of self-preservation. Styx locks her in his dungeon. Discovering Gaius is on the loose and infecting others with his madness, Sandy attempts to “influence” Roke (her vampire guard) to help her escape...and it works. But it also forms an unbreakable bond, a bond that shouldn't even be possible. Fate finds a way, leading Sandy and Roke to a discovery that could save them all.

This was another fabulous adventure in the Guardians of Eternity series. Hot and spicy romance, fantastic witty banter, strong and tenacious females and incredibly sexy alphas take this wonderful story to an extraordinary. Still going strong at book 10 in this series, I am anxiously awaiting the full Sandy and Roke story.

2013 Review
Ok, I struggled a little with this one but think it was solely because I had to keep flicking back through the previous full story to refresh my memory of certain characters and sequence of events. The problem is that as I read so many books with different plots and characters etc I find it impossible to retain all that information in my little grey cells and Darkness Avenged picks up directly after the end of Fear The Darkness. If I had known that I would have waited until I could have read them back-to-back but once I realised I should have just read Fear The Darkness again before starting this one and I would have probably sailed through.

Once I gave in and stopped flicking back and forth I actually found I was really enjoying the story as it was well written and did flow easily. This series was one of the very first that I read when I discovered this genre and Ms Ivy continues to be one of my favourites.

Thanks so much to Dastanbook, penerbit yg bagus yg sayangnya sudah tewas.

We finally get Santiago and Nefri story! Nefri is a Clan Chief who is ancient and a legend among the vampires. She was quite an interesting character. She is powerful, strong, can kick-ass but only wants peace.

Santiago is the perfect mate for Nefri. He crashes down her walls and makes her feel like a woman again. He isn't afraid or awed by her powers and legend. He sees the real Nefri. I loved the romance and courtship between these two.

I now can't wait to read Roke and Sally's story

15.5/20

“Did something die in here?I smell”—"vampire.” - Levet

Darkness Avenged is the first book in the series that features a vamp/vamp pairing!

Nefri, the legendary vampire clan chief, is given a mission: find Gaius and bring him before the Commission.Little does she know that she's not the only one with this misssion.Santiago, is shocked to learn that his sire is still alive. After the Dark Lord was defeated, they all expected that his minions would be defeated as well. But Gaius has returned stronger that ever...

This book is a follow up to Cassandra and Caine's story. The danger that the Dark Lord posed may have passed, but a new threat seems to be rising more powerful and determined to destroy them all.

I really enjoyed the book despite the fact that not many of the previous characters made an appearance except of Styx, Viper and of course, Levet, who was present in too many scenes and as always managed to irritate Santiago and charm Nefri.

What I loved, was the secondary story of Roke and Sally, a witch previously seen in Fear the Darkness.I loved their story and I can't wait to read the continuity.

All in all, I loved the book and I highly recommend it.I hope the next book wil be about Roke and Sally....

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
*ARC Received from the Author in Exchange for an Honest Review

Whew, talk about bang for your buck! 2 1/2 power couples, multiple villains, interweaving storylines, surprises around every corner... It was great!

I've been a GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY fan since the very beginning, & like any long running series, there comes a time where the books start to feel like filler. I was getting a bit worried about that with this series because while I was still enjoying the books, they didn't keep me reading til all hours of the morning and ignoring everything else around me like they had...until this one! :)

I've always been a fan of Dante and Viper in the series, but was immediately drawn to Santiago when he was introduced way back in the series. He's one of those uber confident, semi-cocky, sexy as sin alpha males that you just can't help but fall for. Nefri is a very confident and strong female as well, and her story is intriguing to say the least - she's an Ancient and has been behind the Veil for longer than Santiago has been alive and undead. When the two are paired together by the Commission to hunt down Santiago's sire as he wreaks havoc on the world, things get incredibly interesting... in SO many ways. The things revealed in this book were so intense. It's any GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY fans' dream.

I loved this book and easily give it 5 Skulls. I do not recommend that readers jump into this book if they have not read the other books of the series though, there's just too much history. Outside of that, HIGHLY recommended.

After the defeat of the Dark Lord in the previous instalment you would think that the Guardians of Eternity would have earned some down time. But no, because another evil entity has inhabited the mind of the traitorous vampire Gaius from beyond the Veil. Several characters are involved in the search, the featured couple Santiago and the legendary Nefri, the Anasso, Styx, the reluctant Roke who is accidently mated to the witch, Sally Grace and of course our favourite gargoyle Levett and the love of his life, Yannah. What transpires is a fun adventure as the Guardians have to employ all their skills to deal with an entity that may be the Creator of all Vampires and so not destroying themselves in the process!

For number ten in a series which for all intents and purposes had finished the original story arc this was a pretty good read. Although the HEA of Santiago and Nefri fell a little flat this was complemented with the development of the upcoming story of Roke and Sally Grace which promises to be a fiery encounter. Of course, the comic relief of Levett the gargoyle who is the bane of the vampire male's lives and his quips really add to the enjoyment of this series. Some of his one liners had me literally LOL... (I got the mammogram (instead of I got the Memo) and Farts before Tarts (Bros before Hos )were just some of the Levett classics.

An enjoyable, fun read and the next book with Sally and Roke promises more of the same.

What it's about: This is the 10th book (wow) of Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series and centers around Nefri and Santiago. Santiago is hot, he's alpha, he's dominant and he's sexy. For readers who have been with the series for a while we finally get to Santiago's story! The Oracle has given Nefri a job, one where she has to work with Santiago. The chemistry is intense and Nefri is the perfect mate for him. There's action, adventure, a ton of violence and "mauling," which leads to awesome bedroom scenes.

Why you should read it: For those of you who swoon for a dominant hero but hate weak heroines, you'll have no problem here. Nefri is ancient and powerful in her own right and it makes the banter and energy between hero and heroine a palpable thing. While I haven't read every single Guardian book, I have read enough to understand the underlying plot and have been waiting for Santiago. Fans of the series and newbies alike will melt for Santiago and enjoy Nefri immensely.

My least favorite of the series but still a good book. I think my main issue with the book was that I have been reading about them in other books for way too long and lost interest. I was also really, really disappointed with Nefri. I mean, here you have one of the oldest, most powerful creatures in the world and she was the biggest bore ever written in this series! How is that possible?! Santiago is great, love him, but he still couldn't make up for the fact that his heroin was lacking, big-time. Another issue for me was that none of the previous characters make an appearance in this book except for Styxx and Viper (for a microsecond). What's up with that?!

For me, the only thing that saved this book and made it possible for me to actually finish it (yes, it was that boring), was the side story of Roke and Sally. It kept me going when all I wanted to do was put the book down for good. I can't wait for the next book!!!

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

A very good read :)

I recall thinking at one point that Sally may just be my most favorite female character I've ever read. There's just something about her I really like. And to think that maybe... just maybe there's more to follow of her story with Roke. Whom by the way just that interesting. Oh yes indeed. YUM

I couldn't help but marvel at what a talkative spirit that spirit was... haha - it was like once he got started, who could shut him up?

I am glad that Santiago and Nefri had their story - it's a really good one.

I recommend the series and this read!!!

3 stars - I liked it. I have to say that I put this off since I wasn't too excited about Nefri as a leading lady - and the initial dynamic between the Ice Queen and the 'barbaric' hot blooded Santiago didn't really grab me - they ended being okay. But I have to agree with others about the start of the romance for a second pairing - vampire Roke and 'witch' Sally - they really 'made' the book for me. So overall with th e two romances (and despite the very minimal presence of savior of the world Levit) this was pretty good.

No disappointment on this latest book of this wonderful series of hers. Having read these two characters in previous book in series Santiago yet again meets up with Nefri when both sent on a quest but not together but must work together to get the answers they seek, along with her is Levet. This time they do not escape each other along the way. Also in between are the witch Sally and Roke and twit fight against their attraction for each other. Lots of adventure and romance. Well worth the read from a good author.

I love these stories and creatures that come to life on the pages.
Although this is Santiago and Nefri's story I also loved the sparks that fly between Sally and Roke.
This book is intense and it kept on the edge of my seat.
The action, the twist and turns and of course scorching hot sex scene are off the charts.
LOVED IT!!!
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

While not my favourite book in the series I did enjoy it. I love it when Alex broadens the supe types a wee bit it always adds a little something to the story. Levet was as entertaining as ever and the tiny little glimpse of Jagr was just to tiny for me! :)

Bingung sih mau komentar apa. Pertama aku memutuskan kalau aku nggak cocok bacaan vampir. Bukan tipe aku. Kedua, adegan aksinya kalah seru dengan petualangan Nefri-Santiago ketika melacak keberadaan Gaius. Padahal aku berharap aksinya bikin tercengang.

The Dark Lord is dead, so there may be some peace for a while. But then Styx and Santiago find out Gaius is still alive, not in his right mind and hiding something. Something horrible.

Two romances going on (well, three if you want to include Levet and Yannah’s ongoing odd relationship). The main one is Santiago and Nefri. After the battle, she left to hide away behind the Veil, but the Oracles ordered her to look into the possibility that Gaius didn’t die in the battle.

Interestingly, Santiago has been ordered by Styx to do the same thing. The second is an unexpected attraction between Sally, Gaius’s witch and one of Styx’s vampires: Roke. Interesting to see how that goes.

I loved this book. Going to be one of my faves of the series. Very exciting and different. I also enjoyed the introduction of and interaction with the harpies. They’re a lot more organized and interesting than those I’ve read about before. Hope I get to see more of them. There is a bit of what you could call a cliff hanger but only because it leads into the ongoing relationship problems of Sally and Roke continued in the next book.

Fave scenes: Sally’s meal order, visiting the Hall of Records, scorched peaches and Gaius’s awful decision.

The last couple of books (including this one) haven't been quite typical

One of the things that I've enjoyed about this series is that the main characters in each book get their HEA by the end of the book. But lately, those anticipated HEAs have been taking two books to resolve. Santiago (who didn't get his HEA in the last book), did finally get his. But Roke and Sally (the MCs of this book), didn't as yet. It's becoming the Author's way of making sure you're invested enough in the characters to grab the next book. I can't say that I like it. I prefer to purchase the next book because I'm enjoying the series--not because I'm left hanging for that Hero's HEA.I

That being said, I enjoyed Santiago getting his powerful mate (yes, more powerful than him...gotta love that). I am also eager to see how Roke will get his. Even though I have to buy the next book to find out. But I'm not happy about this new two-book/HEA scenarios. Just saying...

Like I have said many times, but it bares repeating.. these are just really goof fluff books. They are all about the overly sexual male that's all protective and He-Manesq.. Then you have the tough as nails females that normally don't like domineering males, but finds this attractive all of a sudden, then BAM! Mated for life.

The reason I like these books? They don't try to be anything other then what they are. If I have read some intense stuff, I like picking up one of these to clear out the cobwebs. They are quick reads, I can usually finish a book in about 2 hours or less. And the truth is Ms. Ivy is a damn good writer.

This book is about Santiago and Nefri and their bonding story. Their are several other prior couples talked about through out the book and the set up for the next book with a new couple.

Darkness Avenged

It took quite awhile to get thru this. I read 2 other books while reading this, which speaks volumes. It was boring. I didn't feel a connection with Nefri or Santiago. It was her turning into someone else that I really felt how much he loved her. I was much more interested in Sally and Roke because of the angst, mystery, and forced mating. Roke is grumpy because he wants to go home but has to babysit a witch - when he hates them and magic. Sally doesn't know what she is,just that her mom tried to kill her. Roke believes she cursed him, and just wants it gone- though he is protective of her. Even Levet's appearance didn't help this bore. Oh well, on to Roke and Sally Hunt the Darkness.

Once again this book was a good combination of sweet, hot, dramatic and funny.

The only reason I did give a better rating was because I was beginning to feel a little BDB-ish where every single chapter is someone else’s story. I’ve waited so long for Santiago and Nefri’s story, yet only about 1/3 of the book was about them. Now I hardly feel the need to read Roke and Sally’s book next since they were 1/3 of this book. Lord have mercy.

Santiago and Nefri were in no way a letdown. Just all the other stuff was.

A lot of humor, and I still can’t stop laughing!

I loved this book the best so far in the series! A lot of humor popped up and it took you by surprise and I’m still giggling over parts! Definitely a book worth reading a second time, well after I finish the FULL series and start at the beginning again, lol! It’s a joy to see an author command your attention and you just can’t stop reading until you are on the last page! Enjoy!
