A great collection of poems. I love the way the front cover looks. A drawing of a stick figure, most likely drawn by a child, and the font looks like a child wrote it as well. One poem stood out to me, the one titled Mama's Promise. The poem talks about a mother's promise to keep her son safe from all the dangers in the world. This book would be well suited for third graders learning about poetry.
I liked the motherhood perspective and the images evoked. It's a small collection, but it tackles some hefty issues like racism, feminism, and self-truths. I feel a little more prepared for motherhood, having read this book.
