Interesting short read for those willing to understand a little of this country and people. The amount of conflicts along the way, specially against Castilla/Spain, the way this people organized themselves and has been trying to protect their existence and culture are highlights. The book was published before the very latest attempt on independence in 2017. From what I read here I would not be surprised if we see further fight towards the goal of separating Catalonia from Spain in the near future.
A great overall and high-level history of Catalonia. However, it was a bit of work slogging through a parade of dates, monarchs, and other high officials. A bit of context would be helpful. The modern commentary veered from history to opinion often without support for claims made (it's quite possible the claims are valid, but still, support helps.
