This is Agatha Christie's famous 'And Then There Were None' reimagined as a graphic novel. I had read Murder on the Orient Express a while ago and, whilst enjoyed it, thought it dragged on a wee bit. So, when I was made aware of this other famous novel of hers in illustrated form (in which a bunch of people are invited to an island where they all die) I new I had to pick it up.
Having the novel illustrated and condensed down, made for a more exciting read. I say this because the adapter, Riviere, didn't have to go into heaps of environmental detail and could instead focus on the mystery and murders at hand. Speaking of the murders, whilst I didn't think the revelation was too shocking, I did enjoy how we are given a nursery rhyme at the beginning which foretells everyones death. Overall a fun read!
Triggers: murder (in some pretty gruesome ways), suicide, cancer
This is one of the better-made titles of the graphic novel version of Agatha Christie's. I've owned several other titles but most of them weren't adapted quite right.
To recap, it's a story of 10 characters summoned to an island off the coast of Devon before being killed one by one. Adapting a story into graphics can be quite difficult, especially at the task of explaining the background that led to the summoning of each character. The adapter quite succeed in doing just so, but I rather suspect some minor parts are lost in translation. The illustration is made harsh with hard angular strokes and it is not as colorful as the usual BD style, but the text flow is almost spot-on. While nothing can replace the text version, this graphic novel would be a nice companion for fans of Agatha Christie.
220×295 ¦ A.I.+D.L. 09/2003 ¦ 10.50€ -›originally published by Claude Lefrancq Editeur
Getting this series in English through the rare England editions has cost me much higher price-points and tremendous diligence so, despite how nice those look together on a shelf, I've settled for three French originals. Out of luck, this is one of them, because I realized through title confusion->research which told me that it's a 'Black/Purple Smurf' situation that keeps The Bibliomecca as censor/censure free as can be! I do agree with the reasoning behind why Harper Collins edition switched the grossly racist nursery rhyme from n-words to soldier-boys (even in art through entirety) but I want stories just as they were for the historical truth of it- especially if it's the title of the entire world's best selling mystery (top 10 of anything).
Narrative: Agatha said it was her most difficult to write and I'll bet it was the toughest for Francois to adapt into tome-length while keeping the reader from knowing "whodunnit". But, without spoiling anything, I must brag that I got it from one phylactere that then matched with the forthcoming nursery-rhyme-killer's name! I'm being confusing but those who finished will know what I mean when I say that I'm disappointed with the police for not thinking "what if the __ __ was actually a __ __ ?".
Visual: ****(b&w)/*(color) Leclercq is usually great but his self-coloring job ruins the look of the whole thing. It's one of the best examples I have of why a bonafide colorist is necessary. Frank's choices and usage are absolutely garish.
Its one of the beat work of the author... Its a fun to read and I finished it in one read, and surely it make my sunday.. Reading it was fun filled with suspense and questions. Nicely written and beautiful storyline.
Even in graphic novel format, I was still was captivated and terrified of the story. The illustrations really captured the tension and the mysterious nature of the tale.
I read this to compare to the style of The Hunt which I read for book club in November. Although I found the styles to be very similar, I did not particularly enjoy either book.

Agatha Christie sets out a new genre of her own with this original multiple homicides mystery in an isolated island, Ten Little NiggersAnd Then There Were None became an instant classic right after its original publication.
Now you can read it in a different way, through a graphic adaptation which is still appealing to Agatha Christie's fans.
You have to read the epilogue to find out who the killer is you will fall for one person and think he's the killer but it ends up being the other one. There are 10 deaths and the murderer is a mad person.
I love a good Crime novel from time to time. Agatha Christie is one of the classic Crime writters so I had to touch some of her work and must I say - I really enjoyed it. This is a crime materpiece. It keeps you on your feet for the wole time and it's not too long.
