Hope Parsons has heard about the evil of demons since she was a child in the little isolated community where she grew up. Demons were part of the outside world; demon sex, demon drink, demon music, demon woman. According to her father, her mother had a demon in her, too.

This is Hope’s world until she finds a box her mother hid years ago and the remnant of a letter her runaway sister wrote begging for help. These finds are the impetus she needs to embark on a journey out into the world and the city where she hopes to find her sister and learn more about her mother’s legacy. Once there, she learns her father was wrong about most of the evils of the outside world. Unfortunately, he was right about one; living, breathing demons are real.

Nico ad Nimeni, with his dark charm and magazine cover good looks, is a recent addition to Canaan ad Simeon’s House of Guardians. As a Guardian of the Race, it’s his job to protect his people, the Paenitentia, along with humankind from the demons who cross over from the Otherworld, but Nico knows there are demons other than those that stalk the night preying on the fear and flesh of humankind. Nico’s personal demons are the ones that plague a man’s soul and insist he stand apart.

When circumstances bring Hope to the House, she finds a place where everything she was taught about good and evil is turned upside down. In this world of witches and demons, vampires and Paenitentia, she learns that things are not always what they seem and that a shy, self-conscious country girl can be beautiful and find love in the arms of a suave sophisticate.

Join Hope and Nico as they search for her missing sister and discover in each other the healing power of love.

The second book is a little bit boring for me. Until half of the book, nothing happens. Not the romance, not the killing, and not the adventure too (I felt miserable).

The villain in this book will be Tyn , the second in command of Abyar (I do think this is an ugly name that suit the demon image, xoxo). There will be two others new characters, but the female lead will be Hope, and the romance will be between Nico and Hope.

Near the end there will be unexpectedly action from Grace, Hope, and Manon that quite entertaining.

This book is 3,5 stars.

GUARDIAN’S HOPE (Guardians of the Race #2) by Jacqueline Rhoades

GUARDIAN’S HOPE is the second novel (May 2012 release) in Jacqueline Rhoades Guardians of the Race series.

Hope Parsons is a woman lost. Raised in a religious community by her abusive father, Hope moved away hoping to locate her missing sister and start a new life free of her father’s control. But finding her temporary home destroyed and her landlord murdered, Hope knows two things--Her sister Faith is still missing and the creatures who destroyed her home were not human. And the only thing missing from the home is her mother’s ceremonial dagger known as an athame. Searching the seedy underground nightclubs and bars, Hope finds herself dragged into a world she knew nothing about. But finding herself drunk and staring into the eyes of a handsome stranger in the House of the Guardians, Hope knows it could more than the athame that is missing-but her sanity as well.

Nico is a Guardian. The Guardians are of the Race, with superior strength and speed, descended from Gabriel who live on earth to protect the humans and guard the portal, ensuring the demons do not cross the barrier. But Nico has always believed he is different-unwanted and unwelcome. Serving within a different House every 3 years, Nico bides his time until he must move on. But something about Hope Parsons forces Nico to look back on his life as a Guardian and what it truly means to be accepted into a family.

As the story progresses, Hope learns that she is a Daughter of Man, a descendant of the one of the originals and it will take Manon and Grace to show her what is means. Yet to come into her full power Hope continues to search for her sister, but must now follow the dictates of Caanan and the other Guardians. But it is Nico who will confuse and tug at Hope’s heart. Nico refuses to allow anyone to get close due to his history, and when he finds himself confessing his ‘sins’ to the beautiful woman, it will take all of his strength not to turn and run for the very last time.

Once again, there is plenty of light-hearted humor and passages involving Dov and Col. Like puppies in a room full of little children, Dov and Col entertain the Guardians as well as the reader. It will take 2 equally funny and patient women to tame the brothers from their mischievous antics but 2 women that will have enough love and understanding to calm the beasts within.

Tynan and his demon hordes continue to control the drug trafficking and prostitution trade throughout the city. With the Guardians quickly closing in, Tyn finds it necessary to dispose of the women’s bodies he once used for feeding. But his prized possession named Beauty is beginning to displease him, and it is Beauty who no longer is able to distinguish between the reality and the nightmare that is now choking her life. And with every body that is disposed, Beauty will leave a message hoping that one day, someone will know that she is still alive.

GUARDIAN’S HOPE is a fantastic second storyline in Jacqueline Rhoades Guardians of the Race series. Jacqueline is an indie author who has written a remarkable series that I hope will continue for a long time. I am looking forward to Jacqueline’s next installment. I can only guess as to who is the leading female character….:)

With this novel Rhoades gets further in depth into the history and beliefs of both the Guardians of the Race and the Daughters of Man. In the broadest sense this intensely exciting story is about the interactions between them. It takes one heck of a twist on the way. This story is also quite intense, but not in the usual way. Rhoades brings forth an emotional and mental intensity that you won’t’ be able to walk away from, right until the tearjerker of an ending. Rhoades weaves an unforgettable tale that you can not only read and imagine but visualize and feel.

This story is quite emotionally charged. The two main characters are learning to accept who they truly are and can be as compared to what they have learned/believed all their lives. I love the play between fate, happenstance, and the everyday in the course of relationships coming together. Amidst the supernatural turmoil of the story love and hope still shine through.

It’s brilliant to see how this group of unrelated individuals come together into a family unit. Everyone complements each other in an emotional, mental, and even physical way. Even though this is far from your traditional family unit, you can definitely see the familial relationships here. My only question with regards to any of the questions is this: What in the world is up with the cat (because cats are people too).

This novel is simultaneously fun, exciting, suspenseful, sinful, sensual, and romantic. It was a brilliant escape from reality that I’d suggest to anyone and everyone.

Hope was just to prudish for me. I just did not get her and Nico. But it was still a good addition to the series. And the twins were still funny!

I am loving this series, it is so great! Guardian’s Hope is the second book in the series and it features Hope and Nico. We met Nico in the first book and he is an elegant, broody hero that no one really knows much about. He is very private and doesn’t like to share his past (or really the present) with others. His back story is heartbreaking and as you learn more about him you can’t help but understand why he is the way he is. Hope has had a very sheltered upbringing. Her father is a preacher in a very small community where he leads his home with an iron fist. Hope leaves home searching for her sister and meets Nico at a club where he helps her to get home. From there the sparks fly.

I am falling in love with the world that Rhodes has created. After the first book I was worried that this one would have a lot of ‘vampire politics’, i.e. the society being all up in arms about how the guardian’s are choosing to live, but I was very happy to see that none of that made an appearance. The threat of politics was still there but the focus of the story stayed on Hope and Nico. I loved getting more time with all the secondary characters. They are great! The twins are again full of mischief and mayhem but are still so funny in their interactions with each other and the other characters.

Nico and Hope are such great characters and I felt they were a perfect match for each other. As the story progresses you get to watch them both grow and mature into incredible individuals and an even more amazing couple.

I will again say that one of the only negatives that I had with this story, same as the first in the series, is the changing of the point of view. When the author switched to another ‘mind’ she does not usually even put a space between the paragraphs so it is sometimes confusing. Other than that minor thing, it was thoroughly enjoyable. I am very excited to read the next installment!

I received the first book in this series from my goodreads.com lovers of paranormal group. I liked it so much that I went out and bought this book, the second in the series, so I could keep reading. I was not disappointed. This book is another solid installment in this series. I loved the characters. I would have liked a bit more prominence with the twins but even without much of their unique flavor I was more than content to keep reading and I will be buying the next book in the series also.
I would happily recommend this book to others that love paranormal romance.

I love this one even more than the first. I love Hope and Nico as a ccouple. I love that she's not "a perfect 10" and he loves her anyway!

A great story of love and discovery with so much adventure and danger mixed in. A well written story with a good pace and I really love the author's sense of humor. Comic relief brought in by the twins is so well done and seems so real. They are so cute, I bet they get their own fan club!

I hope everyone gives this series a try, you'll love it! I promise!

Another wonderful installment in the Guardians of the Race series. I cannot get enough of enjoying reading Jacqueline Rhoades books. I was not expecting to read Nico story so soon, I thought maybe I would have to wait his story out but I am glad this his was the second. Oh how I liked Hope's character, pure yet wanting to know more about relationships. One more time shout out to Nico.

Hope and Nico are Perfect Together
But it was not an easy road to the HEA. Hope was abused as a child and young woman. But living in a cult like environment she never realized it until she ran away. Nico also had a tragic youth, hurt by the people who took him in. When Nico sees Hope being bullied, he saves her and believes he wiped her memory of him. But Nico cannot stop thinking of her and sends the twins to keep an eye on her. When Hope is attacked the twins bring her to Caanon's house of Guardians. The attraction is there but Nico thinks he is unworthy and Hope thinks she is undesirable. And demons still pursue Hope while Hope searches for her missing sister. This book was a real page Turner! I loved it. I loved the characters, and not just Hope and Nico. Grace and Caanon from book one play a prominent role. And the other Guardians are truly wonderful heroes. I hope they all get a story!

Another great book in this series. Paranormal romance with humour, wit and action all rolled into one fun package. The book did not fall into the deep political manoeuvrings that were hinted at in the first book but rather kept the focus on the house and the important job that the men were performing.

Hope and Nico are interesting and flawed characters who aren't perfect but are willing to accept each other as they come. Their interactions were full of love, wit and compromise which are fabulous building blocks of a relationship. Both characters developed through the love and support of the other.

The house full of supporting characters was again fantastic. The colourful characters and humorous interactions are probably my favourite parts of these books. The twins are back and as full of energy as ever, as well as the other guardians.

I am looking forward to the next book.

Another great book. I think I might have liked this even more than the first...not sure, too close to call. Loved Nico and Hope, he was dark, troubled and definitely crush worthy, and Hope was sweet, kind and came from her own dark past. They were great for each other and I enjoyed watching them grow/heal together. It was much easier to follow the different POV when they switched. I look forward to the next title which I start today. I want to know more of what happens to Faith and how they bring her back from the trauma she has endured.

This is the 2nd book in the series and Jacqueline continues to demonstrate her superb writing skills. The characters are well written and the story flows smoothly from the first book. In this book you learn about Nico's heartbreaking past and everything he has overcome. Hope has a heartbreaking past as well and together they learn to leave the past behind. The twins are still hilarious and the rest of the characters and still in the story as well. Starting the next book now!

I thought I would not like this book towards the end because the women do a very "walk in the creepy basement when there is a killer loose horror moment", but they turned it around and got themselves out of the trouble they put themselves in. They didn't stand waiting to be rescued by some tough guy, but they also understand that they were not weak for asking for help. I like that about Ms. Rhoades books.

I enjoyed Hope and Nico. I was a little iffy about reading about Nico before starting the book but he grew on me quickly. I love how long these books are because I feel like I really get the full story and am only left wanting to know more about others instead of feeling like I don't know fully what was going on with the main characters.

Continues to delight!
I loved the first book and this is no less entertaining and enjoyable. The characters are all so likeable that you can't help but connect but what makes the series even better is that the original characters still play a major role. This is about a paranormal family who are brave, dedicated to justice, loyal to their beliefs and each other, and a family who loves each other with passion and humour and bothers to stay connected to each other. Hope and Nico have their little misunderstandings, but all relationships do even ones with happy endings, or those not connected to sex and partnerships. The novel shows us how friendships are vital not just on a social level but also in keeping lovers and family buoyant and for this reason alone it is worth reading. There is also action, sex and some very amusing bits scattered to keep us delighting in the experience of reading. What else do we need?

Finding Hope's HEA.

As I was reading this book, I found myself anticipating what is going to happen. I was not disappointed at all. The story of Hope and Nico is wonderfully told. I always know I am reading a great book, when I can't put it down. I lost sleep with this one. Lots of action and adventure. A very strong heroine. And an even stronger hero. There are some very sexy scenes. Also told with lots of humour. This is the 2nd book in the series. I recommend you read Guardian's Grace 1st. From a true Fan... Pam James

This kept me reading for most of a day of travel and I think this series improves as it goes along .

I fully intend to go on to book 3 in the not too distant future, especially as, although this has a satisfactory conclusion and ties up some loose ends from the first book, there are characters here who tantalise with the desire to know more about them.
