What girl wouldn't want to be surrounded by the sexy guys from the hottest teen rock sensation in the country? 18-year-old Never "Neve" Knight, not only is surrounded by the hottest boys to hit the music charts, but she is the band's lead singer. As the band's lead singer and manager, Never formed and shaped the band to where it is today, a band on the rise and on the brink of being signed by a label. As one of the guys, she knew each of the band members since they were all snot-nose ten-year-olds. While her boys were the cutest guys and they would protect her like knights, she couldn't date any one of them and ruin the chance at being signed with the record label of her dreams.
That changes when one of the band members suddenly drops out of the band, and in walks Danny Blue, with his dreamy blue eyes, hot body, and British accent. Suddenly, Never's solid world has turned to mush, and her rule for not dating one of her band members is seriously challenged. Can she keep her head straight and get her band signed with a label without losing her heart?

Neve is a little naive and childish and she sounds like a 12-year-old. The writing isn't all that fabulous and everything they say, they say at least twice. It's weird. Also, it's rather cliché and the things the boys say and do are so not real. Guys can be sweet and al that, but sometimes they really sound slike wimps. Conversation is forced. And they practically live in the past. "Remember this?" And Come ON. What's with all the crushes? They're all sooo in love with Neve, but she doesn't find out until after more than 10 years and when she does, she finds out they ALL like her in a matter of days? Bullcrap.
And Danny Blue? Honestly? It's like the name of a comic book character. The moment he auditioned I started disliking him. With all the compliments and 'modesty' while he is, apparently, really good. Give me a break. He sounded as fake as a Barbie doll. If I hadn't known he was the main love interest, I'd have thought he was some kind of louche bad guy with sinister plans, trying to win the band's trust. Or a rapist.
Kyle is obsessive and creepy, Geoff is a perv and I seriously don't get why they even still try to be friends with him, Luc is like a pathetic little puppy that got his toy taken away from him, Danny is a narcisistic arse and Neve is just a child. The only charachter I actually liked was Steve. Laid back and funny, I kind of wish he'd get a spin-off book of his own, but I am quite certain that the author would just have ruin him and his charm.
I'm really disappointed. Though the plot isn't really original, she could've made it work but, having read several reviews and synopsis of her other books, I suppose she's just not that talented a writer.
Oh and... "I had wanted this for so long." Kid, you've known the guy for one week, what are you up about?
over Thoughts- I love this punk rock cover! Everything about it screams Never Knight, from her red hot heels to her deadly black nails and of course her sexy guitar. I absolutely adore this cover.
First Thought- Who doesn't want to read about a teenage rebel trying to become famous but avoid love? Go for him Neve!
What I liked- Kailin Gow is genius. All her books are amazing and yet so different. Circus Summer is her dystopian. Never Say Never is her contemporary romance. And Frost is her paranormal series. She could write about anything! After finishing the shocking ending of Never Say Never I did some research on Kailin Gow's books. I seriously must read more of her writing. I don't believe she could write a single uninteresting book. Never Say Never is on my favorites list now and that is really hard to believe because usually only paranormal fantasies on my favorites list. First off the beginning, She describes the music The Never Knights are playing. One line that really caught my attention is, "The music is pulsing; I can feel it around me in waves, feel my body twisting and turning as my voice echoes through the microphone, refracting like shattered glass through the room." Every line of the beginning is attention grabbing that there was no way I could put it down. Then I read on, what got me the most was Neve didn't want to use her dad's celebrity status to further her own. She could become downright famous if she had just used her dads name in everything! Although her dad did not approve of her becoming a punk rock legend like himself she still kept on going. My favorite part of the whole book was when Danny Blue walked in for their band audition and changed their band forever. Of course Neve can't help the churning emotions inside her and she simply can not stop feeling what she does for the newest band member. But could this crush split her band apart forever before she even gets the recording contract she has dreamed of? The ending really surprised me but I can't ruin the whole book for you. I will just say that Danny Blue is the definition of sexy in the punk rock dictionary.
What I disliked- How could I possibly find something that bothered me in this fantastic book? It might not be one I'm used too. I haven't read a lot of New Adult novels but this book has got me interested in this genre. One thing, only one thing has me disappointed how does Neve make every performance perfect? If she is completely emotionally unstable then maybe a performance should be unstable too? I just felt like one super awful performance should happen to spice up the series a little. Really Never say Never has everything I could want in a book.
Overall Readability- Punk rock legends, sexy guitar players, wild party nights, big famous dreams, all in one awesome book. This is totally not one I will forget. Every time I turn on my i-pod I think Neve and The Never Knights and how I wish I had their CD. It's inspiring really, I wish I had the talents that they do. I finishing Never Say Never is one night and was sadly disappointed I have to wait awhile for the second book to be released. If you want to change up what you usually read or you like contemporary romance with a kick I dare you to read this book. I promise you won't regret it.
My Final Thought- NO! He can not come back! Now the band will probably suck. :(
Never Knight is 18 years old and in her first year of college, finally glad to be out of the house and on her own. She and her band The Never Nights, are trying to hit it big without the help of Never's rock star dad. Never has grown up with the boys in the band, and has known them since she was 10 years old. Now they are some of the hottest guys around. Despite there attempts to get her to change her mind, Neve has a strict rule about dating guys in the band. Don't do it, even though Kyle and Luc have made their desire to be more than friends obvious. There is an accident after a show and their lead guitarist ends up injuring his arm so they have to replace him. They set up tryouts, and much to Neve's surprise, in walks Danny Blue, the dreamy, hot, to die for for guy with the British accident that makes her just want to melt in a puddle at his feet. Between practices and school, Neve is around the band and Danny Blue a lot, and she is finding it harder and harder not to break her own rule. Danny Blue, as dreamy as he is, also has a mysterious and painful past. This constant close proximity is making it harder than ever for Never to stick to her guns, but if she doesn't will it tear her band apart, and will her heart survive?
I really loved this book. Of all Kailin's books I have read thus far, Never Say Never has been my favorite. I mean who wouldn't love hot rock stars and great romance. I really liked Neve. She was the daughter of the famous rocker Keith Knight, but was determined to do things on her own and not ride her dad's coat tails. She also had a really good relationship with her father and mother, even though her dad wasn't to keen on her entering into the world of rock and roll. After all, he'd been there and done that, and he knows what goes on. I liked the guys in the band. Kyle is her best friend and has grown up with Never. He's a little to overpossessive and overprotective, but has a good heart. Luc is quite the hottie also, and he would like to be more than friends with Neve, and Steve, well he's just good old Steve. Needless to say, none of the guys has any problem having plenty of girls falling at their feet. Danny Blue, well he is the kind of guy dreams are made of. This story is a really great contemporary romance and I absolutely loved the rock and roll theme. The characters are great, the story line is fast paced and entertaining, and the romance is smoking hot. If you love contemporary romance and rock-and-roll, then Never Say Never is a book you will definitely want to add to your to be read list. Kailin Gow has yet again written another wonderful story.
This is the second book I’ve read by Kailin Gow, and she is quickly rising in my list of authors I want to read more from. Both books I’ve read (this one and Circus Summer) have a nice easy flow to the writing. I really appreciate that in a story.
In this book I kind of thought it would be a little bit more edgey than it was. There was a lot of Neve’s internal monologue, which to be honest, got to be a little bit much at times. But at the same time I still really liked her character. She seems a bit naïve, but she’s growing.
There is a lot of drama in this story, even as Neve tries to stay away from it. But when you are the hot lead singer of an up and coming band, drama is going to find you whether you want it to or not. I really had mixed feelings about the rest of the characters. The male lead, Danny, seemed a bit arrogant. I didn’t really care for him too much, so when Neve started falling for him it kind of made me sad. My choice for her would have been Luc, who seems like a cool and laid back type of guy. And then there was Kyle who is…. Well, you’ll see. He is a bit intense, and I’m kind of on the fence about how I feel about him. And then there is Steve, who doesn’t really appear too much, so I don’t have much of an opinion about him.
Overall though, something about this book clicked, and I enjoyed it. Before the drama starts Neve has an easy camaraderie with her bandmates, and that was fun to see. But when she starts being dishonest, you can feel the strain. I do look forward to more of the series, to see where these characters go and grow. And I think that is the ultimate test, do you want to know more? Yes, I do.
Disclosure: I'm the author. Never Say Never is about a young woman who takes charge of her band, her career, her love life, her body, and her future. She's not perfect, but she tries, and only through making mistakes she grows.
So, I first saw this book on netgalley. I just learned about netgalley like two days ago and I started exploring. And I came across Kailin Gow's Never Say Never. As you know, I'm a Kailin Gow fan now. ;) I decided to check out the teaser and see if I should request it. The teaser worked terrifically, so terrifically that I wanted to read it that instant. I knew I probably won't get the book even if I requested it, since it is one of the most requested books, so I decided to check up on Amazon, and Barnes and Nobles. Bingo! It was only $0.99 on Amazon, so I bought it! ;D
The Cover: The cover makes novel have a cool, spunky look that attracts readers. But I must say the teaser certainly does. Although normally, I don't go for New Adult books, this book just had that attraction to it. The romance really isn't that bad, although I did end up skipping some erotic scenes, not that I couldn't live up to it, but Danny Blue is okay to me. Not my most favorite guy.
The Characters: Never Say Never is about a band called Never Knights. The band has 5 people in it. And Neve is the leader. She is also the only girl. And she is the daughter of the famous rock star, Keith Knights. Not wanting to use her father's influence to gain her image, she decided to secretly start a band without anyone knowing she is related to Keith Knights. The only people who knows her identity is her four band mates. The guys she had hung out with since elementary school.
To me, one of the most important band member is Kyle. Even though the band is very close and they're all like siblings, I find Kyle the most close to Never AKA Neve. He's like her best friend. They knew each other since forever. He eats dinner with Neve and her family. He also basically, lives next door to her, since his aunt is the Knights's housekeeper. And coincidentally, my neighbor is also named Kyle. LOL.
Then, the next one mentioned a lot is Geoff. I think Neve likes him the least. Neve's one rule is to never date her band mates. They are off limits. Geoff, though, somehow doesn't care about that rule and continuously, hits on Neve. It's gets disgusting and all, so when he was drunk and got his arm broken, The Never Knights had to get a new guitarist.
Luc is the third most mentioned. Since he actually kissed Neve because he likes her. Oh, Kyle likes her too, so they almost had a fight over her. Luc isn't that bad. I don't really remember much about him though, since he was just there. LOL.
Steve is like the only one in the band who doesn't like Neve, in that kind of way. That's why he's like my favorite character. It's not that I don't like Neve but at least there's one person here with some sense and isn't going crazy over Neve.
Finally, Danny Blue. He is rich. Apparently, he is the one the richest celebrities, Clarence Blue's son. He also, like Neve, wanted to shape his own life and not live under his father's expectations. Danny Blue takes over Geoff's spot in the band, when Geoff hurt his hand. And coincidentally, Danny Blue is also the TA to one of Neve's professors. That means she sees him double amounts of time everyday. According to Neve, Danny Blue is gorgeous, etc. Personally, other guys, ewww.....I don't care how hot they are. They are too old. Neve is only eighteen.
That's still why I think Kyle is a better choice for Neve, even though I find him kind of clingy. I don't feel any connections with the guy characters in the story so I can't say whose the best for Neve. Just no connection. I mean, Danny Blue would have been okay, but he was younger. Like 19 or something. According to the author, he 's in his late twenties. Ewww. I don't like when the main characters' ages are too far apart. It's just disgusting to me. Even though I fandom about Logan Lerman and my kpop guys, but yannoe, they're celebrities! (Even Danny Blue is one, I can't stand Neve thinking of him that way. Ew.)
The Plot: So after the large amount of time judging the guys, you guys kinda get the idea of the plot right? I mean, it's basically explained in the Goodreads summary. LOL, So, despite Neve's rule of never dating any guys in her band, she couldn't help but fall in love and feel attracted to Danny Blue. And when that isn't bad enough, Neve soon discovers that two other band mates besides Geoff, likes her. Like are you flippin serious? Omg. Is Neve that pretty? No offense. LOL. But really those guys need to learn how to hide their feelings more and not act like dogs that have food displayed right in front of them.
Book Comparisons: This book reminds me a bit of Beg for Mercy by Shannon Dermott. The whole love-pentagon thing. Except in Beg for Mercy, who the girl ends up with is less obvious then Never Say Never. We already know Neve ends up with Danny, no question, since the blurb said, how will she deal with this love with Danny, not how will she deal with 4 guys liking her.
The Ending: Yeah. She ended up with Danny, but there are more question marks then answers. Like what happens with the rest of her life and the band. The band almost got broken up because of the romance between its members. I kind of want Neve to end up dying like Danny's ex-girlfriend, Peyton. Not to be mean or anything, but sometimes, we need some sad endings. I mean, if every book has a happy ending, then life should be easy-peasy instead of all the hardships in it.
The Bad: Ermm.. Danny's age. I don't know his specific age, but he's way too old for her. Probably why it's New Adult but still. Even I fandom about the older celebrities (which are at most 25, BTW), I don't think about them that way. And I DON'T dream of dating them or marrying them, because there are younger celebrities for that. (Not Justin Bieber BTW. And I'm not a hater. I'm just not crazy over him. Or One Direction, even though they are kinda good looking...but I know some even younger ones ;D) Okay. Move on before I get to celebrity-crazy.
The Good: It really wasn't that bad of a new adult novel. The sense scenes aren't that descriptive. Like way over board descriptive like Fifty Shades of Grey (Trust me, I really didn't know it would be like that when I downloaded the book. I only saw it bestselling at Costco, okay?) But I did skip it a little, because Danny Blue isn't that hot to me, no matter what Neve thinks, and I wanted to see what happened next.
Rating: (1-10): 8.6 Yahnoe, my average rating, despite it being Kailin Gow, maybe some YA would be more appreciated. LOL. I can't say I regretted reading it though.
I really enjoy the concept of the book, it is very different from what I normally read. When I first saw it in the blog tour, I knew I had to try it out.
First let's begin with how I really liked how everything started rolling from the first chapter. A lot of the characters were introduced without sounding amateur. You know some books just straight out say "I am blah blah, age blah, gender blah, in love with blah, have superpower blah." This book didn't but it still maintained the fast pace. When the story just began it felt like I was at one of the concert (sure I never been to a concert in my life but I guess that was what it felt liked). It was really easy to be transported into the world Kailin created. It really felt like the words and music notes wrapped me up and dissolved me into the book; it was a thrilling ride.
I immediately took a liking to Neve; she wasn't like any girl I had ever read. It was easy for Neve and the boys to joke and have fun. It really felt like they were buddies. She was a badass too. Can we take a moment and appreciate Neve? She basically managed with these dudes and held the band together. She was ambitious, and driven, but not in a stupid way. Some female character are ambitious in a stupid way, you know what I mean? You don't? Well some female leads appear like they are some god who can just walk into a room full of gunmen and take everyone down. I don't care if you are Black Widow or Cat Woman or Wonder Woman, don't be stupid. Neve was smart. Sure she had feelings for some dudes but she kept it under control. She was smart and efficient. She was also the daughter of a rock star. If I was a daughter of a rock star I would be lying around all day going on the internet all day (not saying I am not already). She never took advantage of her dad' status.
Steve was like your Neville of Never Say Never (at least the movie version where he is now GORGEOUS!). Geoff was your annoying douchebag of the bunch; he was the guy that thought he was all high and mighty (yes I wanted to punch him). Luc seemed like the super awesome dude that ladies love and wanted a little more with Neve. Kyle, soft, gentle and knowing type of dude. He was protective type especially toward Neve. He also had a tough childhood. I really liked that, it provided so much more character to him.
And oh helllooooo Danny Blue. British accent, check. Jet black hair, check. Piercing blue eyes, check. Ladies, are you in love already? Oh and did I forget to mention that he was mysterious too? When he was first mentioned I was doubtful of him. I was thinking "oh no, not another gorgeous dude again." BUT! Oh Ashley *hits self*, why did I doubt him? Danny was the whole package. He was kind and mature, dark, and mysterious. Trust me, I wanted to know everything about him. I wanted to know his past, his present, and his future. Whoa, I am turning into a crazy stalker? (Yes I am.) But seriously guys, he was normal (and by normal I mean in a he-actually-sounded-like-a-real-person kind of way). Maybe this was my hopeless dreaming talking but he really felt realistic. Sure he was described as toned and gorgeous, but the actions he did made him sound like a human being. I probably don't make any sense right now. Blame my fangirl mind. Oh, did I forget to mention he is a TA? Hello university! (If you don't know, I am starting university in next week). If I had a TA like that...(I'll leave your imagination here).
Furthermore, I just love the forbidden love thing. There was just something in the writing I loved. I don't know how to describe it. Maybe I had been watching quite a lot of anime with forbidden love recently or maybe it is something else but wow, I want more! The pace of the book was fast but to me I liked it. I never liked a draggy book. This book was able to provide enough details and thoughts but at the same time not introducing a lot of unnecessary fluff.
This book is a must read! I never read anything like this. PLEASE! I WANT THE SECOND BOOK RIGHT NOW, LIKE NOW! Have I just encountered my favourite read of 2012 so far? Yes I have my friends.
First Thoughts: When this book tour came along, it caught my interest simply because it was different. There is absolutely no paranormal theme going on. It is a romance plain and simple… but it was an older YA romance so it touches on the ‘sticky’ side of things. For some reason when I saw the tour info come in my inbox it just called my name and I knew that I had to read it. The Main Character: Never ‘Neve’ Knight… she is awesome! Sure she is a celebrities daughter, but she doesn’t act like it, she is very down to earth. She wants to make a name of herself BY herself… but just off of her parents back which was really awesome. She is also super talented, she is the lead singer in her band of boys as well as the band manager. She also goes to collage. The best thing about Neve is that she was always trying to hide who her parents were… or more specifically who her dad was. She didn’t want a free ride, whatever she got she wanted to get on her own. Love is in the Air: Wow where to start with this one…. Kyle… he was ok, I don’t think he really liked Neve though, I think it was more a comfort thing… he definetly did not have an easy childhood and as he says in the book, everyone he loves leaves… so he has some serious issues he has to deal with but I never thought he was a good match for Neve. Luc… he was actually my favorite, the one I was rooting for. I don’t know why but everytime he was with Neve he just seemed perfect, and when I say perfect I mean perfect for Neve not just perfect in every other way that he was. Danny… and then there was one, Danny was ok, as I said I was rooting for Luc, but Danny was still pretty awesome and I guess he really was a the best fit for Neve because he knew what her life was like as he came from something similar. But he still totally has a lot of issues to deal with and I hope they don’t bring Neve down when he starts his journey. Ending: I was actually really impressed with the ending. The main plot throughout the book was closed, but it also left the door open for so much more. If I didn’t know that this book was the first in a series I would have been happy with the ending, it was left open enough that the author was able to either finish it as a single book, or continue it as a series. I think that was one of the best things because of course I want to read more… but if there wasn’t another book I would have still been very happy with just the one Final Thoughts: Although this book is a romance and not my typical genre, I was very impressed and I will be keeping my eye out for the next book. This is the second book I have been able to read by Kailin Gow, and both times the books have been out of my general genre preference, and both times I am been sucked into the books and ended up absolutely loving them!
Okay I admit the cover totally had me. I love music, and I love that this cover is not the typical cover we see all over the place lately. After reading the overview I was definitely convinced I had to read this book. A chick who is the lead singer of a band full of hot guys? Yes please!! Oh and Danny Blue, hot body, dreamy eyes, British accent...sold! I knew ths book would have some serious romance and hot chemistry going on. And that it did, but besides that, we really get to know Neve and her band.
Neve is daughter of a famous model and former rockstar father. She could have everything in life handed to her, but that's not what she wants. Her father is also pretty against her being in a rock band since he has been part of that life and knows the ups and downs of it. She is determined to do things on her own. She wants a normal college experience, but also wants to have a serious band because people like them, not because of who she is. I love how hard she fights for this. She is smart and really has herself together pretty well. She will do anything to ensure the success of the band and that includes no dating. Shouldn't be hard since they have all known each other forever right? Nope! Wrong. She is now eighteen and the guys no longer see her as a little sister. Also in walks Danny who is swoon-tastic!! She can't seem to keep her head together when it comes to him.
All the band members are great. The only one I didn't really care much for was Geoff, but guess who his replacement is. Oh yes, Danny! Luc, Kyle, and Steve are all quite different. I loved that dynamic. They are all great friends, in a band together, but have much different personalities which makes this book so much more enjoyable. Everyone stands out in their own way. It's not just focused on the main characters.
The romance aspect is fantastic. It's like a forbidden romance for Neve. Should she give into her desires and risk everything, or stick to her solid rule of no dating band members. These desires and feelings she is having for Danny are all new to her. She has never really dated before because she doesn't spend time with people outside of the band. More then the fact that Danny is the newest band member, he is also the TA in one of her classes. Oh and the chemistry between them is sizzling!!
This book was quick and entertaining. I loved getting lost in the bands drama's and triumphs. You get to see friendships tested, and choices made between what is right and wrong for everyone. Neve is like the glue for the band, so when she starts unsticking will the band be able to keep it together. Music, suspense, and some steam up the windows scenes make this a wonderful book for lovers of Mature YA/New Adult books.
**This is a new adult book.** Never Say Never is a great book for music fans. I have read quite a few music themed books this year, come to think about it. I really enjoyed Never Say Never as an addition to their ranks.
Never is the daughter of a rock and rock legend. And with that comes a certain celebrity status that she wants nothing to do with. I liked that she really did seem to want nothing to do with her birth right popularity. She didn't even want her famous dad to know that she was the lead singer in a band. A band of all guys and her- so right away you know that there are going to be some problems.
Luc, Kyle and Danny are the three main guys in Never Say Never. The only problem I really had with the book was that everyone seemed to like Never. I have noticed a pattern of every guy in sight having a thing for the main girl in a story lately. I did like that one of the band members did not seem to be romantically interested in Neve. That was refreshing, but having four (we can't forget Geoff) guys fight over her seemed a bit much to me. But each of the guys were different and the real story here was between Neve and Danny.
I loved Neve and I liked Danny. I just couldn't bring myself to fall in love with him in this book. I did like him quite a bit more towards the end and I am super interested in seeing how he is in the next book. But I kind of like Luc the best. He has this polite reserved style that I thought was just adorable. He is a lot less of a hothead than kyle is- that's for sure. I hope good things are to come for Luc in the next book.
Never say never is well written, and a really cool story. I loved seeing the journey of the band and watching Never deal with some of the trials and tribulations of growing up. I hope the band can hold it all together, but I am sure that with the return of Geoff things are bound to get rocky. Plus I see Kyle as a bit of a wild card. If you are looking for a whirlwind rock and roll romance, Never Say Never would be a great book for you!
LOVED this story. Music, love, heartbreak and so much! A girl has so many choices but in this story the girl named Neve has alot more then normal. She is a daughter to a famous rocker and she plays in her own bad with 3 other boys she has know her whole life When they have to find a new guitarist she finds her self breaking all the rules she has been following since she can remember, and falling head over heals in love with this new dreamy guy.
What a story, one that took me less then a day to read and less then a day to fall in love;) Kailin has done an amazing job with this one and having me hooked from the cover. The story line was gripping and had me wanting more and more every page. The love in this story was breathtaking!! I really enjoyed the music aspect involved in this story and how Kailin combined it all. Oh and you can never get enough of a hot rocker guy, right! Kailin did a great job writing each character just right so you felt each ones emotions and loved them all.
This book is a GREAT read for ages 14 and up for sure. There is talk of sex in this book so really its up to you on how young you might want someone to read it but I say 14 is a great age! The Author really takes you into the life of Neve and her band members and you will feel like you are part of the story. You wont want to put this one down so be sure to be ready for an amazing ride!! Cant wait for book 2!!!!
I spent a huge portion of my teenage years in the basements of churches, civic centers and .... sneaking into bars - not to drink of course, but to mosh around in a pit of sweaty writhing bodies charged with the electricity of an (usually) awesome indie band that was on their way to making it big. In Never Say Never Gow completely brings me back to that awesome time but from a band's perspective.
Neve grew up surrounded by music, so it only seemed natural to start her own band. Starting at a young age with her band mates, they've spent years honing their sound. Now that they're all off to college together they play gigs when they can and attend classes most days - until their dreams nearly come true one night when a scout approaches them with the possibility of a deal with a record label. But it all comes quickly crashing down when a band member makes an untimely exit and it seems like all their hard work was for naught....until the very talented Danny Blue shows up...
Gow has Neve address the shadier side of being a rock star, like the drugs, alcohol and groupie one night stands. These things can become overpowering and often leads to the downfall of a lot of bands. But I loved that Neve was this perfect balance of fun and serious. She knows when to let loose, but she has this rigid determination to achieve a goal she's dedicated her life to. Neve's never given much thought to pursuing relationships, especially when she's surrounded by her all boy band mates who seem more like brothers than potential love interests. So she's made it her number 1 rule to never date any of her band members...but rules are made to be broken.
Kyle, Luc and Geoff all have it hard for Neve. Each vying and competing for her attention and each one approaching it differently. Sometimes it got very awkward and when I got to know these guys I squirmed right along with Neve. They've all been 'friendzoned' and Neve tries to do it as tactfully as possible but it's all bound to come crumbling down. I'm glad that at least one band member - Steve - seemed like he was genuinely not interested in Neve and he provided a great go-between and a voice of reason.
Oh Danny boy...I have a thing for British accented guitarists. They will always bring me back to James Marsters as Spike from Buffy the Vampire slayer *sigh*. Danny is someone that Neve can easily relate to. They both love music, he has the mental maturity that Neve needs but he's also got the whole tortured musician going for him too. Danny's back story was just constantly evolving the plot of the main story and it all pulled together perfectly - the boy's got some serious secrets!
Neve and Danny's romance starts out cute and innocent and quickly gets HOT. They fight the attraction to each other for the sake of the band and it just builds up the sexual tension until it finally explodes. The sex scenes are steamy but not over the top or particularly graphic. They enhanced the romance and play a pivotal role to Neve's development.
Gow's style is casual and upbeat, which makes it a super enjoyable and quick read. The character's each have a distinct voice and there's some hilarious moments of innuendo and wit. The plot of the story is pretty predictable but the way it was presented still made it engaging so that I was interested in seeing it to the end - which by the way was a doozie of an ending!! I was pretty much screaming NOOOOO at the end because I was so invested in the characters by that point - now I have to wait for the next book to see how this is going to play out...
Gow takes a reader on an exhilarating journey of love, friendship that proves that passion can drive you both on stage and off!

( Kailin certainly surprised me here)) grins.
** I must say I think Kailin should try a dabble in the adult industry as well for her stories, because this story certainly showed me what I knew Kailin was capable of and that is ANYTHING !!!
** This new adult concept was very addressed and put forth making it a tasteful and sexy read.
Kailin has certainly taken us on a new journey with this one. For all readers who like smexy, Danny Blue and the boys are for you. Kailin Gow is back in action again with a rockin' contemporary sure to set the young adult stage on fire! It's intensely captivating, full of life and love and growth, along with some unexpected curveballs that life throws Never's way. Never Say Never is an emotional rollercoaster ride full of thrills, lots of fun, and a little sexy. It's a wonderfully fun mature young adult romance sure to ignite anyone's world a blaze.
Never is such a wonderfully flawed and realistic character brought to life in such an amazing way that makes it extremely easy to relate to her, to connect with her story, and to enjoy all of her minor flaws. She could be a drama princess with everything handed to her on a silver platter, but that's not at all who she is. She's incredibly determined to get what she wants on her own in her own way and she fights hard to make it happen. She isn't interested in hand-outs from her father. The boys in the band are just as amazing as Never is, too. Luke, Kyle, and Steve are a bit different, which gives them unique appeal of their own and lends depth to the band and story itself. The difference in their personalities, style, and friendship are what makes the band's dymanic such an enjoyable reading experience. Everyone gets their time to shine in Never Say Never and that's pretty amazing because it lends so much personality to the book itself.
The romance just sizzles and pops to life off the pages. It's ridiculously forbidden and sweet hot fun. The chemistry between Danny Blue and Never is electric and it's so much fun to witness the awkward tension between two of them. The feelings that Never is experiencing are all new to her and she can't decide whether to break her cardinal rule of not dating anyone in the band or just go for it with all she has. It's fascinating to watch her navigate through her own personal feelings. Yet here is the one guy who has literally tilted her whole world on its axis and has her practically dangling by a thread. So, what is a girl to do?
The character's are wonderfully entertaining, the storyline is engaging and highly addicting, and the realism is sure to draw reader's like a magnet. Kailin Gow spares no expense in showing off just how amazing her writing chops are with this new mature young adult romance hot off the presses! For those who want a sizzling romance that burns hotter than most, this is the book for you.
Never Say Never by Kailin Gow is a story that shows how relationships grow and change over the course of time, and not always in a way that is desired. The members of the Never Knights have been best friends for years. They have seen one another through all the awkward stages of youth, and came out the other side. The band’s lead singer, and manager is Never Knight. Neve Knight is not just any teenage girl with aspirations to be a rock star; she is the daughter of one, Keith Knight. Neve and her band avoids using any connection to Keith Knight, just so they can make it on their own, and not on the coattails of Never’s father.
Never Knight is an incredibly independent character striving to make it big and lead a normal life, without the spotlight of her father’s fame shining on her. Neve is also very strong having to do everything on her own, and still trying to have the normal college experiences. But then Danny Blue joins the band and sets her world on fire. I like the growth Neve takes throughout the story, with some help from Danny Blue. She has to be careful though, because her desires could end up tearing the band apart. Danny Blue is older and more mature, and I think that reflex in the way Never starts to change when around him, and because of his influence.
I have to say I really enjoyed the whole story, specifically how the band functions. Also, I like getting a sense of the individual relationships within the band. I also like see how they were formed and how the change over time and throughout the story. I also think that the double standard in relationships and sexual behavior between men and women are also brought to light throughout the story, and I really like how the author chose to handle it. That being said, this book is a New Adult book, meaning it is not for younger teens, but an older teen audience at least 16 years of age or up.
This story was a fun quick read, and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the second book in The Never Knights series, and cannot wait to devour that one too! I think Kailin Gow has done a fantastic job exploring her characters and developing them into characters readers fall in love with. **Unabridged Bookshelf received this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review**

I really liked this one. I think it's the best that Miss Gow has ever cranked out, and I'm honored to be a part of the blog tour. Yes, I am a part of the blog tour, and this is why I'm reviewing this. Not because of the controversial cover, I swear. Well, maybe because of the cover. ;)
To be honest, when I started this book I knew that I was going to love it. The atmosphere got to me immediately, and the idea of band that's fronted by a girl was just too much. There was absolutely, positively, no way that I wasn't going to like this.
I found the dynamics of the band to be good, and that I could imagine all of these things happening, as opposed to "other" books where you just can't see it happening. There was a few moments where I didn't understand it. For one, how many bands do you know of that every boy (except one) in the band has fallen in love with the girl lead? How many? Doesn't it seem improbable?
Yes, it does. But it was written out to be different than that, to a point. I found it to be believable, but I thought four people falling in love with her in one book was a little much. It didn't kill the story, but it was a little much.
Never was a terrific character. She was strong, and independent, and she wasn't afraid to go after exactly what she wanted. She wanted to be a star, without living off Daddy's name, and his money. I admire that in her, and I understand her reasons. Who wants to live their life, being supported by their dad? It seems like it would get old.
The other characters definitely had their moments too. Kyle and Danny especially. Danny and Kyle both seem pretty intense to me though.
This book was controversial, heartbreaking, a bit sexy, and most of all, it communicated exactly what Miss Kailin wanted it to: Your body is a temple, treat it likewise.
*This book was provided by the author for a blog tour. (In which I missed my date. I'm sorry guys.) ♠♠♠♠ Favorite Quote: The pain in my chest didn't matter. All I could feel was the overwhelming joy of having succeeded at last--the way I'd always wanted to. My music had touched somebody.
Funny, musical, crafty, and rock out entertaining. Kailin Gow delivers a fantastic new age treat for lovers of contemporary romance with an edge.
This is the second Kailin Gow book that I've devoured and once more I'm taken aback by the fast paced witty writing style, as well as the addicting story being unfolded. I enjoyed the idea of music being the centerfold of everything (I can't stress enough of my love for music in novels), and how intrigued the main character kept me.
Never "Neve" Knight, first of all weird name but I like different things, is the lead singer of a rock band on the verge of taking off. Being a female vocalist in a band has never been easy, especially when trying to keep your relationship with the band members on a friendly, professional level. It certainly complicates things and I've seen a few bands in "reality" shatter to pieces because of that. So, the fact that Neve tries so hard to maintain that focus on music only is indeed difficult for her and even tested once Daniel comes in the picture.
Character wise, everyone caught my attention. I immediately connected with the main character, her emotions and what her intentions were. Aside from her, You can understand other characters like the members of the band, their feelings about the situation, and of course, the guy Neve was so taken by.
The cool thing about this book is that the story isn't just about a band trying to breakout. Neve is the daughter of a musician but chooses to accomplish her goals by not using her family name. Mind you she's also just started college as well. So, in my opinion, the novel is about working hard, going after what you want, holding on to true friendships, discovering love, and overall growth. Music was a beautiful thing in the book but I doubt I'd make it to the end if there wasn't more going on. And of course I have to mention that ending, it left me sad and pissed off. I simply can't wait to find out what happens next.
From the moment I saw this book I was instantly interested. And since New Adult has been becoming an increasingly popular genre I was curious to see how Kalin Gow worked that in to rock and roll.
Never "Neve" Knight is one of the most determined and ambitious characters I've read in a while. And I love that about her. Until recently, Neve's whole life was about the band and having a personal life wasn't even a concern for her. But now things are changing. The band's changing and they're realizing that they're not kids anymore.
I loved the band. Luc, Kyle and Steve are all such cool guys. Geoff is alright but I don't really like him. They've all been friends and grew up with each other so they all feel comfortable around each other. The one thing I didn't really like is the fact that suddenly people in the band have "secret" feelings for Neve. I liked that they were close without the whole romance thing and it was a little disappointing that the author went down that road.
Danny Blue is the new sexy lead guitarist. I instantly liked him, especially when she mentioned his English accent. But he ha secrets and a past and honestly I don' really thing he's good for Neve. They have a connection and are sexually attracted to each other but Danny is older then Neve, more experienced and at times I felt like he using that to his advantage. I love Danny but I'm not really sure about his feelings for Neve. I just hope he's not using her to hide from his past.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was a pretty quick read but I loved every minute of it. I'm so happy for taking a chance on this series!
*Received for Book Tour. **This review also appears on my blog World of Books
I really liked this story! There were good qualities here. I liked reading the different characters, especially Neve. You read from her POV and she seems like a stronger type character for a young college student. She's determined and just wants to be noticed for her talent; not for being a Rock Star's daughter. The other bandmates were all described pretty well, and I really got the concept that they have been very good friends since they were young kids and their dream was to play in a band together, and now as they are older, they are getting noticed, for their musical talent. Danny Blue was also described and developed very well. There's a mysterious element to him, and you will see what that it is. I for sure was rooting that he and Neve would get together, and I think there were realistic traits in their explicit friendship or do I say relationship?... Yeah I don't want to give too much, but this story had a good pace, beginning to end. This is my first time reading a novel by Kailin Gow and it definitely will not be my last. This story is book 1, so there is a book 2! Yes!! I got really excited at the end of the book, that there was going to be a continuation of Neve's story, so I really, really look forward to it!
Kailin has created another wonderful book with great characters. The story flowed very naturally and I find myself being absorbed into the book. It was definitely a page turner for me as I kept wanting to find out what will happen to Neve, the daughter of a rock star father. However, she never once tried to use her dad's name to bring her band to fame and I truly admire her determination. She also kept her band a secret from her father from fear he would ban her from playing. And goodness, those band mates of hers were totally cool, each with their own unique personality. It was obvious all of them likes Neve but she has a strict policy of no dating within the band since she has seen what it has done to other bands. However, when one accident led to Geoff being dropped out of the band and a new band member came in... she's so going to break her own rule. Danny? Danny who? Why is there a sort of instant attraction to him? Even I look forward to following him throughout the book. I'm definitely waiting eager for the second book in the series to read more about all of them!
*Review as part of the Blog Tour hosted by SupaGurl*
Okay, so I love music and definitely books that have a music theme plot to it. Add in a little romance and that makes the reading all the more superb. But when Kailin Gow writes the story it is amazing. I truly enjoyed reading this story. Never is a girl who is strong. She knows what she wants and isn't going to let anything get in the way of her goals. She's got talent to back her up. Loved the name Danny Blue. It just sounds so rock star. He's the perfect book boyfriend. Dark hair--check, blue eyes---check, muscular---check, plays guitar---check, all around Hotness---check, check. So glad this is only the first book. The way the first one ended and the tease to the second one I know I will be in for a great time.
I've said it before and I will say it again...You can't go wrong with a Kailin Gow story. She knows what I want to read and I have never been disappointed in any book I have read by her, and believe me I have read a lot of her books. Pick this one up and prepare for a great read.
Wow is the only thing I can say about this book. I read a few other of her books so I knew I hate to read this book. I was not disappointed. Family, friendship, sex, music, this book has it all. I was hooked from the first chapter. I really liked Never's character. She was cool while still being a girl. I loved all the guys in the band. Especially Kyle. He was sweet, funny and a great friend to Never. Danny Blue, Never first meets him at school. He's a teaching assistant in one of her classes. Then they see each other again while he auditions for a replacement spot in the band. He is very mysterious and they are drawn to each other. I love how all the guys in the band are protective of Never. Eventhough a few of the guys like her.Her parents are okay in the start of the book but towards the end I really liked them. Keith Knight said he didn't want Never in a band like he was but after an incident happens at one of her concerts he comes around and is supportive of his daughter. The story was sexy, funny and a little heartbreaking.
A fun and sexy ride through the thrills of being the only girl in a testosterone-filled band. Never Say Never is a must read for its portrayal of the awakening and coming of age of a young woman trying to reach her dreams.
Danny Blue comes close to my favorite book boyfriend of all time. Be prepared to fall hard for him just like Never did.
Received a review copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Daughter of the famous Keith Knight (a rock star) and famous Jessica Botano (a former swim suit model), Never, or Nev, Knight has it made. But what she really wants to do is follow her father's footsteps and become a famous rock star, even if he wants her to become a lawyer. Nev and her band mates have been playing together since they were kids and now as college students, they start to see a change in one of their band mates, which eventually leads to him not being able to play. Now who will they replace him with?
No.
I don't know if it was just me, but I HATED Danny Blue as the love interest. He and Nev basically have sex all of the time, and then they try to call it something that it's not. The first time they get "intimate," he basically rapes her while telling her that he just wants to get it "out of his system." Da heck?
How is every guy obsessed with Nev? She's pretty. She's known her band mates forever. Logically, majority of them should think of her as a sister. But, no. Four out of the five have the hots for her. Kyle seemed like a good guy in the beginning, and then all of a sudden he's possessive? Luc didn't even sound like he had an interest in Nev and then all of a sudden he's lovesick and pathetically obsessed? And Geoff....he's just a creep.
To be honest, the only reason why I kept on reading was because I thought Danny was going to get killed, or go to jail for being a rapist, or something equally as horrible would happen to him, and one of the other guys would grow some balls. Or maybe Nev would grow some balls?
I checked the synopsis for the other two books in the series, and apparently Danny Blue is here to stay and the author's going to keep on calling their crazed sex, "love." So I won't be continuing this series.
I was pretty hesitant when I first started reading Never Say Never. I'm not into girl bands at all, but I really enjoyed Loving Summer by Gow and I love this cover, so I decided to give it a chance. By the second chapter I was completely into it.
Never is the daughter of a famous rock star, wanting to break into the business on her own merits, and despite her dad's disapproval. These two things are what made me like Never. Gow did a great job of making Never a relatable character even with her good looks, hot boyfriend, musical talent and uber rich family.
Never Say Never is not a YA book. It is a New Adult book, which really means it's YA with some mature content and slightly older characters. While the majority of the story could easily fit into the YA genre, Never's relationship with Danny Blue takes it into that new category. Danny is in his mid twenties and the type of relationship they develop goes beyond what would normally be in YA. It wasn't the sex as much as how Gow approached the sex scenes that for me made this for an older audience. There was definitely a more sensual nature to the scenes than I would expect in YA. It makes me wonder how Gow would be at writing straight genre romance.
Gow writes at a quick pace and it's hard to put down one of her books once you start, because with every turn of the page she keeps moving the story along. Overall, Never Say Never is a great read for older YA readers looking for a fun romance.
I looked at my dad. “Guy stuff,” I muttered. “Out!” My mother declared, and my dad sighed and shuffled away. “Our daughter needs her Mommy, don't you, sweetie?” “Goodnight, Crabcakes,” my father said. “I can see where I'm not needed. Just tell me where to send the hit men.” “Dad!” “I'm just saying – I know people.”
I'd love to have a dad like him haha!
Anyways, I really liked this. I feel distraught for Kyle though. I really wanted Neave to run into his arms and love him right back. Geoff's a creep, Steve is every girls dream big brother and Luc is well Luc haha!
Yup I wouldn't mind being a girl in a bad full of hot yummy guys. It was cool Danny had his own famous background. Made things fitting,
This book is 'For anyone who dares to dream.' that's what it states on the dedication page and yeah, it's right. This highlights the cost of fame and how hard it is to be a headliner.
Finally a book with a female rocker. Loved it!!! She kicks ass and everyone knows it. I'm reluctant with the guy situation because she should have been up front in the first place and set boundaries instead of rules. Yeah we all know not to get involved with coworkers however there is always an exception. Guys no it and so do women. Neve is a teenager with huge responsibilities and it seems these guys take advantage of her and if they truly loved her they would have stepped up which they didn't. They seem oblivious to what is going on and that seems kind of inattentive when you love someone.
The story was great and I can't wait for the next one.
Never or Neve had a rule No Dating The Band Members. But when their guitarist got hurt they had to get a new one. Danny Blue. The only one she broke the rule for. Kyle and Luc had feelings for her. Kyle was a but * coughs* obsessed with her. She stared to note that they had feelings for her as she started to take the next step with Danny. This book was an great read.
Enjoyed this storyline. The dynamics of childhood friends growing as life changes makes for a great read. Complicating matters of the heart and of growing up...
Disappointed that I can't find the second one on Barnes and noble's website. I am anxious to find out what comes next for the boys (Luc and Kyle) and for Neve and Danny).
