What a wonderful book for those who live in/around Kc and wish to learn more about the local geology and paleontology! Purchased this directly from the paleo.ku.edu website after attending a wonderful talk by the author at the Linda Hall Library. Worth every penny. Already interested in local fossils, this book gave me a better understanding of the geology and a greater appreciation of the deep time that formed our local geology and the invertebrate fossils found within. The book goes over the major fossil types commonly found in the Kc area, gives some geological background information, and even includes a little section at the back showing a handful of fossil sites. Extremely useful, with a good number of identifying photographs that I've relied on time and time again after my little field forays.

This book is great! It has beautiful pictures of the fossils that can be found in Kansas City and clear stratographic sections explaining the geology of the area. It also shows locations for picking up the fossils. Everything you might wish to know about Kansas City is in this book. Well worth the money and you can ONLY get it at UMKC (Amazon doesn’t have it). We purchased one when we visited the Sutton Museum.
