A WHOLE LOT OF TEARS WAS SHED WHILE READING THIS…
My heart ACHES for Alfonzo and Selange can they survive this?

‘Many men… many… many… many… many men, wish death on me…’ -Lyrics by rapper 50 Cent
Alfonzo is a marked man however the threat to his life comes from someone he least expects. Meanwhile Selange goes to Italy a week early, leaving the husband and kids behind. Amelda, Alfonzo’s cousin is to wed and the women have a weeks worth of festivities to attend. Selange’s heart is battling with a betrayal she made against her husband. One that has left her heart split in two. A half for each man…

‘She felt tortured and frightened by the unknown. It was like being caught in a web of deception and not being able to escape.’ –Inner monologue of Selange

“She’s so beautiful, like a fire on a winter night. I can also see her innocence, she’s young to our ways but you are not. Her fire will melt your ice into water and it will run red. Do not love her so openly, it’s in your eyes.” ~Sophie to Nico

Nico does not even fight his feelings for Selange; he has lost his family from his betrayal and if Selange is wiling to share her body with him then he will take it. And oh boy does he take it…

‘At the edge of every sweet lie sits the dirty truth. Nico’s days were numbered!’

SECRETS. A lot of secrets are revealed in this book. It seems Nico is still finding out who he is.

By the end of this book I was still crying. Can’t stop crying….

‘This woman was his everything, he worshiped the ground she walked on, gave her everything a man could give and she took… took… took… took… it all away.’ ~Inner monologue of Alfonzo

The ending…

Ok, so a few things. I enjoyed this book the most in the series so far. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and was up until 5am reading this! Even with the flaws, I was drawn in by the twists and turns and even the characters I dislike had redeeming moments. For the 'ball by ball' play, you can take a look at my updates but a few thoughts:

Everyone knows I'm not a Selange fan but, even so, I felt she was done a disservice in this book. The whole Nico/Selange cheating angle isn't plausible to me. There was always an attraction there, but the 'missing my husband' business should have been worked a bit better. It would have made more sense in Book 1 when Selange was really struggling. In this book, Alfonzo is a doting husband and father. Selange is the one who encourages Alfonzo to come out of retirement and claims she's down to ride or die. They're all lovey dovey and 'I love you more than air' and all of a sudden she can't talk to him and say, 'the anniversary of my parents' death is coming up and I need you?' Since when?? Their relationship was going too well for that. I might have given her a pass (MIGHT) if the infidelity was a one-off but the fact that they continued the affair in the light of day? Not buying it. It doesn't match either of their personalities and, like I said, we all know I don't like Selange so me sticking up for her is saying something. Nico is way too honorable to repeatedly cheat with another man's wife, especially Alfonzo's. I don't care how much it was attempted to prove that he was so in love with her; it goes against the very grain of who he is. And Selange was way too in love with her husband to repeatedly disregard his feelings. Sorry, again yo no lo compro! They were both entirely too unapologetic about their cheating to remain likeable characters, and I will really need my hand held and lots of tequila shots to survive Alfonzo forgiving her in Book 5. Not only did she cheat but was dumb enough to so without protection and now everyone has to live with the consequences and Alfonzo is supposed to be ok with that? He is a MOB BOSS. That is a no, no.

Then again, I have never really been convinced that Alfonzo is this multi million dollar business man and feared mob boss. Sorry Alfie. I know you try, but I still see you as a small time street hustler. You've never done anything to prove otherwise. Sure, he's cut a body in half here and there, but it's not ingrained. I kind of indulge him like you would a kid walking around in his father's shoes. If Alfonzo met Giovanni Battaglia or Dmitry Medlov in a dark alley, he would crap himself. This book is completely enjoyable, but more so because of the soap opera, entertainment value. It's light on the true mafia business.

As much as Nico disappointed me in this book, if you want to see a true Mafia boss then Nico stands head and shoulders over everyone else in this series and, if Alfonzo went head to head against Nico in a no holds barred match up, Alfonzo would die. Plain and simple. Anything else is pure folly. And it's not because Nico is built like a brick shit house or trained to be an enforcer, it's because Alfonzo is NOT READY. He is not ruthless enough. Even his reaction to the infidelity is NOT mob boss like. A huge, drunken, public spectacle. 'I trusted youuuuu'. Uh huh. Righttt.

Other niggles - What is with the $3 words? I know sometimes authors want to change things up a bit to avoid sounding repetitive, but it shouldn't sound like they're trying too hard. A bullet is a bullet; we don't need to refer to it as a 'projectile'. "Emilio tried to 'tamponade' his relationship with Jessica." What?? That doesn't even LOOK right.

Some of the prose got a little too preachy and public service announcement-ish. Yes, there is prejudice in America and it sucks, but the references were a bit heavy handed at times.

It sounds like I didn't enjoy this book, but I did. I just need Alfonzo to grow a pair and stop being so p-whipped and to truly step up as a Mob boss. Hopefully, Selange and Nico's betrayal will unleash some fortitude within him, and he will rely more on his instincts and LEAD. I really don't know if I can survive Book 5 if he's all reactionary and allowing Selange to guilt him into forgiveness. Selange actually had the gall to tell Alfonzo he never loved her. I never wanted to kick her in the throat more than I did at that moment. Ray Charles can see how much Alfonzo loves her, but true to form, Alfonzo totally allowed Selange and Nico to punk him.

A friend will have to read Book 5 first and tell me. I really don't know if I can hack it.

I can't... This Volume completely left me speechless. I have cried so much reading this book.

In Volume III as well as this one there were times I've wanted to reach inside the book and do this to Selange...
Photobucket
Then of course in the aftermath, I found myself crying for her. Alfonzo, my heart just breaks for him. Nico, Vincent, OMG! Alberti OMGOODNESS! So many things. Twist & turns. This book just had me on edge the entire time.

I don't know how to feel about this one. It was another excellent read in this Saga for sure, but it will tear your heart out even more than Volume III.

I highly recommend this series. And you MUST read this in order. If you don't plan on reading it in order then don't even waste your time. You will be completely lost.

Now if you'll excuse me. I must go have a good long cry (again) before I move on to the next volume.

I have no words for the ruin of this series with this book. Selange is a disappointment not only for the BS from book 3 but the continuation of the shit in this book. I dont know why they tried to blame Alfonzo for this mess he did nothing wrong and they should not want him to just accept that mess. I dont want him with her at all. She want to love somebody after she cheated she regret that shit and i dont feel sorry for her.

What can I say, the sins of the fathers and the sons definitely came out in this book.

I am still no fan of Selange, you can make a mistake but then you don't keep going back and deciding you will take a lover when you are married to someone else. I will give props to Selange for kicking ass with those ladies and when she and Nico were in danger. I like that about her but that is about all I like about her. I think if Selange had the opportunity to sow her oats before marrying Alfonzo perhaps she would not have had her affair.

My sympathies lie with Nico. He told her she needed to choose and what the consequences would be but and she was the one that came on to him again!!! So I don't feel sorry for Selange she made her bed and now she has to lie in it.

I gave the book a 5 stars because although I am not a fan of Selange it was a good story and kept me engrossed when the twists and turns kept coming! On to book 5. I think I am hooked now!

This is the forth book of the Alfonso series and let me just say the series is still going strong. I am waiting for book 5 to be releas after reading this one. So many questions to be answered. In Antonement you ask yourself the qestion. "If you love someone do you love everything about them?" I like this book the best in the series b/c it deals with love and forgiveness. Not any kind of love, but unconditional love that stands the test of time. Did you ever forget your fist love? Do you forget the one who put you before duty. SW has done it again with this book. You feel every emotion I did more yelling and crying reading this book than laughing, but that what I love about SW writing style her characters have flaws not picture perfect! We are also introduced to some new characters you want to see in future books. Trust me you want to read this series.

What in the world?!! I can't believe she fell for the dumb crap after all. I was really rooting for Alfonzo and Selange to get it together but I was so let down. The ending, Emilo's part, felt like the author was trying to justify her actions not to mention the women's conversations about what they'd been up to. I hate when reading a story we have to get the "everyone's a cheater" crap forced down on us. Drama could've come from a million other places with these two staying loyal to one another. It could've been just a misunderstanding. Hate how Vincent went out, he seemed like he got a bad rap from the jump. No family of his own but still happy and loyal but he's the one to take the fall. I couldn't wait for Alfonzo to find out but man...I so wanted it not to be true. What a mess, guess I'll go on to the next one.

When I think about this chapter the one word that comes to mind is powerful and of course shocking! Again I didn't expect Selange's actions, and Nico has been equally as shocking. Alfonzo on the other hand, I expected him to blow up the world, but somehow he didn't which was out of this world. You could tell the bond between Selange and Alfonzo is virtually unbreakable, and his love for Selange is so powerful. The action in this book was crazy. Nico is something else, and so is his twin Vincent. The things he does and how he does them is amazing. When Alfonzo finds out the bigger secret from Selange I really thought he would kill her...way to have self control there! I really don't know how this series can get any better, but I am learning as I read along that it can!

Loved, loved this book and can't wait for the fifth book. After reading the first book I immediately bought the entire series. Without giving too much away I completely understand Alfonzo anger and hurt. I also felt he was unfairly painted as being unreasonable and selfish.

The Diaz / Giacanti family is still fighting to survive

There are still forces coming after the family. Not only external forces but internal as well. Salange and Nico suffer the aftermath of their wrongdoing and regret what happened. More secrets are revealed. Secrets from the recent past to the ancient past. Both Alfonzo and Salange realize they are better together than apart. Alfonzo understands that no matter how mad and heartbroken he is, only Solonge makes his heart beat right. Nico also realizes he did not fight hard enough to keep his family and vows to fight for Ariana. Alberti reveals his secret to Nico and they both grieve the loss of Vincent. Now, will Sophie pay for what she did long ago? Marie took one look at the twins and knew who they were.

I love this series. it is full of mystery and action. Nico is the ultimate alpha hitman who reluctantly took on that role. With family secrets revealed, he now understands where his appreciation for the arts came from.

Heartbreaking

Loving this series, but this whole mess is heartbreaking. You always hate to see a major character die. Plus Selange and Alfonzo are killing me.
This has to get better.

In the episode 4 of the Alfonzo series, the Diaz family heads to Italy for a wedding, but while abroad danger is lurking and heartbreak is on the horizon. Married for a while now, AL and Selange are enjoying their two young children; all is great or is it? Al focuses on his role as the Don and a decision to take someone out may cause him some problems. Meanwhile, as we know from book 3, Selange has a secret and she finds herself new allies in the Italian women of the family that she may need real soon. Believing everything is great in his marriage Al is rocked to his core when he finds out that his wife is sleeping with his right hand man….Nico!, Feeling betrayed by the two people he trust the most he sees red and his killer instinct takes over. Selange begs for his forgiveness but Al is not in a forgiving mood, and with news that one of his best friends is killed and that his wife is pregnant and he may not be the father, Al has a lot to deal with but one thing is for certain, he will make all those responsible pay!
I had mixed feelings about this book. I love the story; it was well written and had a great flow. The twist and turns had my head spinning, it was great but, the whole Selange and Nico hook up just left a lot to be desired for me. I can understand her feelings and why she cheated on Al, being that he was the only man she had ever been with, she was a little curious but, I guess I didn’t understand why she cheated with Nico and why did she continue for so long? Once ok, you get a pass but they just keep at it like they didn’t have spouses. To me it made no sense, and to have her as the one pursuing him then saying how sorry she was when Al found out and trying to blame him was kind of crazy and I just didn’t understand it. I was so hurt for Al, I almost cried. He was just devastated and the loss of Vincent was a complete shocker. If Vince can die no one is safe. Great job S.W. Frank, although this was not my favorite book in the 15, this is still the best series out there.

Matters Of The Heart

When I first took a chance on reading this series, I didn't know what to expect. I went in with an open mind and I've had favorable results. I am now officially hooked on this series. This is like reading a live soap opera and I love every bit of it. I can say that S.W. is one to look out for and I have enjoyed every book in this series thus far and I’m ready to read the next part.

Alfonzo and Selange Diaz have been married almost a decade. They are still the loving couple that we love. We know from the previous book Selange is not perfect and she is harboring a secret, to matters worse, the guilt is killing her. I loved reading about her internal demons. There was no woman power, I was ready for Alfonzo to find out about the other side of his wife.

Selange is thrust into being a part of the bridal party for a Don's soon to be wife. Sent ahead of her family to Italy for the many festivities for the bridal party. This brings Nico out of retirement as he is called to duty to be her bodyguard. While Selange is away Alfonzo starts to notice she is distant and wonders what is going on in their marriage. While packing for his trip to Italy, something catches his eye that puts him on the hunt. He searches for answers to his gut feelings. You know the saying ‘when you look for trouble, you will find it.’ Can they survive the fall out when Alfonzo learns of her secret?

With each installment we learn more and more about these mobsters. Family is everything and they go above and beyond to protect their families. There's a snake in the camp; the body count will rise in this book. Secrets will be told that will rock worlds. I was flipping pages to see how it was all going to play out. Kudus to Ms. Franks after 4 books I'm still interested and that's saying a lot.

I am giving this series 5 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed all 4 of these books. I have always looked for a good mob story with the family connections, violence, powerful men, romance and plain old mob action. I found that in The Medlov Crime Family Series and now I can add the Alfonzo series to it as well.

This was just like a soap opera. It had plenty of twists and turns and times where I wanted to yell at people one minute and then hug them the next. All of the books had great action and satisfied my need for a good kill scene. Hey, what's a good mob story without some good hit men. The family history and connections, the bribing of politicians, treachery, betrayal, strong women, ridiculous women was all in this book. Just a great read, overall.

I am looking forward to book 5.

This was the last book in the series I read. After this book I honestly couldn't take it anymore and I decided it was better to shelve it. One of my biggest gripes with the books is the awful Spanish. Honestly Spanish speakers are a dime in a dozen(I'm one of them) yet the author(s?) could not find one to help with the Spanish dialogue. I know google translate available and combination but its not accurate, I remember trying to do my Chinese homework with it and its more trouble than it was worth.
Anyways its an OK series but faulty in all the ways that matter.

Selange and Nico I am mad at both of you but the story is so good I forgive you. We get to know more about Nico in this book is is a sexy man and Selange knows it. Alfonzo my man I love you, I really felt what they were going through in the best and kept rooting for him so much I was on the edge of my seat. I guess I will have to wait for the next book to find out . I am not waiting long I start it as soon as I finish writing this review. How can I love 2 men I can but I can't have both.

This series is a fast paced, sexy, emotional thrill ride that is so fun it will keep you on your toes (and have YOU talking out loud – sometimes screaming at the characters and vowing to rain down fire and brimstone on the author). So many twists and turns. … Get it, read it! … I’m sure you will love it.
