Well organized book that is a good introduction to the academic discussion concerning the Gospels. I do appreciate that there’s a whole section devoted to the non-canonical gospels as well. Many great figures included in the book that’s helpful when distinguishing between the four gospels. I did not agree with everything Powell concluded, but he is not heavy handed with his conclusions.

Very exceptional overview of the subjects and current biblical interpretation and scholarship. Highly recommend for undergraduate, seminary and graduate students, but especially to Bishops and Pastors for continuing education. Make sure to get the 2019 2and edition.

A fantastic second edition. Normally I’ve found the differences editions of academic books nominal. This second edition offer almost double the content of the first edition. Worth the investment for people who already have the first edition on their shelves.

This is a really nice introduction to the Gospels, which breaks down each Gospel asking important questions, like who wrote it, why was it written, when was it written, etc. The book also elaborates on how the Gospels differ from one another and highlights what is unique within each Gospel (listed in charts as well), or what the focal points are. I think it will be very helpful to reference when writing sermons in the future. The only thing I didn't like was how small the font was! Sheesh!

I had to get this for a gospels course, and I just used it when I was writing a paper on Luke's Transfiguration account, and I must say this little guy is a keeper! Very short, but well-written introduction to the gospels.

This was the first academic book about the gospels I've ever read. Really helped me to understand a lot of things at a level I hadn't though about before.

Fantastic and concise overview of the differences between the four gospels and the relationships between them. One of my key sources when preparing for preaching and teaching the New Testament.

Solid book. First read it for a seminary class. One of the small number of books I took with me on internship and turned to repeatedly to center myself in while preparing sermons.
