When he is falsely accused of murdering a man he once dueled, Terrance Winslow races against time to clear his name with the help of his neighbor Sylvain Harwood, a lovely young woman, who, unbeknownst to him, has been in love with him for years. Original.
Shannon Donnelly's writing has won numerous awards, including a RITA nomination for Best Regency, the Grand Prize in the "Minute Maid Sensational Romance Writer" contest, judged by Nora Roberts, RWA's Golden Heart, and others. Her work has repeatedly earned 4½ Star Top Pick reviews from Romantic Times magazine, as well as praise from Booklist and other reviewers, who note: "simply superb"..."wonderfully uplifting"....and "beautifully written."
In addition to her Regency romances, she has had novellas published in several anthologies, has had young adult horror stories published and is the author of several computer games.
The story, itself, was entertaining enough, but the book is plagued with typos and usage errors to the point of drawing me from the tale. For example, the character was originally listed as "Arthur Perriman," but throughout the rest of the book, he is "Ashlin." Likewise, was the person's name "Dawes" or "Daws"? "Ellen" or "Ellena"? Is it "Edwin Hayward" or "Edwin Hayland"? Be consistent. Typos appear throughout: "have caught her it end," "that did not wanted to," "but had he had stayed," "Cecilia want the fun," "how could deal with this," "his horses broken into a trot," "not a joking mater," etc. The story switches points of view, sometimes between paragraphs and sometimes between chapters. We not only learn what the hero and heroine (Terrance Winslow and Sylvain Harwood) think, but also that of Mrs. Godwin, Penelope Harwood, Edwin Hayland, Ellena, her mother, her father, etc. By the way, "a near miss" means you hit something. If you nearly missed it, you hit it. The correct term is "a near hit."
Historical English romance with childhood friends helping each other in a murder mystery while falling in love with each other. Mr Terrance Winslow has got himself in trouble as he is framed for murder in his childhood neighborhood where there are alot of people that could also have done it, but he immediately gets himself hurt with a possibly broken leg when his childhood friend, 'Silly' comes to the rescue, but they both don't know that there are plans to send Silvain to London for the season to be with her older sisters and fid a husband when Terrance is trying to find the real murderer. This story is not a murder mystery as I though it would be, as the real murderer is found in the first half of the story, but more a romance between Silly and Terrance who are both very immature. Cute story with everyone a little evil and a little good and lots of adventures with a three legged fox. 224 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
I really enjoyed the characters and story line, but it felt like the romance factor was lacking. In the end they just kind of ended up together, there was no real developement of feeling or sudden realization followed by action and explanation. Plus it's a romance novel, I would have loved a bit more, well, 'romance'. :) The friendship and companionship is great and all but there was no longing here, except on Silly's part and it was mostly emotional, not a lot of physical. I think Shannon Donnelly needs a bit more developement as a romance author and then she'll be a hit. :)
Shannon kept me turning the pages. This book had everything that I look for in a good book Murder, mystery, a strong willed woman and a unexpected love match.
