Ser fill de rei no és sinònim de néixer predestinat, i LA història de Jaume I, dit el Conqueridor, n´és la prova més evident. A la tendra edat de tres anys ja era un presoner, però un home amb una voluntat de ferro és capaç de canviar el futur i esdevenir el rei més gran del seu temps. Pocs regnats han estat tan llargs com el seu. Més de seixanta anys assegut al tron! Tanmateix, per arribar-hi cal lluitar. I no només al camp de batalla. Jaume va haver d´escalar els graons que menen fins al tron, i per fer-ho, abans va haver de rebre l´ensenyament que s´adquireix a l´Escola dels Sons i que només li podia concedir un cavaller proscrit.

Albert Salvadó i Miras (Andorra la Vella, 1 de febrer de 1951 - 3 de desembre de 2020). Fou un escriptor andorrà en llengua catalana i castellana.
Fou enginyer industrial i escriptor. Va escriure contes infantils, assaigs i novel·les. Destaquen especialment les seves novel·les històriques, en les que barreja la realitat, la ficció i el misteri, tot envoltant-los de sentiments que, segons ell, són el gran motor de la nostra vida.[1] Té obres publicades en català, castellà, anglès, francès, portuguès (Portugal i Brasil), txec, eslovac i grec modern.
Durant el període 2003 -2007 fou conseller menor del Comú d'Andorra la Vella.
Va morir el 3 de desembre del 2020 a causa d'un càncer que patia des de feia anys, malaltia a la que va dedicar un llibre explicant les seves vivències titulat Vols viure?.

Un excelente y atrapante libro. La primera parte de una trilogía Sobre Jaime el Conquistador. En los cimientos del reino de Castilla y Aragon, comienza la era de un gran gobernante. Lealtades, traición y ua estirpe real se entremezclan en las líneas de esta novela histórica!

Potser una mica massa imaginatiu quan podria ser més fidel a la realitat. El rei Jaume és una mica massa perfecte.

I got this book from a friend after trying (and failing) repeatedly to read a different historical novel in Catalan that was just too awful to bear. This one is much, much better: good characters, bad guys are less moustache-twirling villains than they are products of the times and motivations of their class. It avoids the twin traps of exposition and cliché that plague much historical fiction. And the real-life story it's based on is genuinely interesting.

So why only three stars? Because this book, like so much medieval historical fiction, seems to find it necessary to reduce women to sex objects and to have at least one caricatured gay man. WHY?!? Seriously; I would lose myself in the story for chapters on end, and then, all of a sudden, I'm yanked out of it by this stuff. And here's the thing: it's utterly unnecessary to the story.

So: I'll be reading the next one in the series, hoping for more of what I genuinely liked and less of the problematic bits.

An extremely entertaining trilogy of historical fiction, with lively and lovable characters, excitement, and a deep understanding of Spanish history. I originally read it to improve my Spanish skills - it is also very good for that, especially because of its clarity and simple yet eloquent language. If you have ever been interested in one of the most exciting times and places of European history, or you just want to read some legendary good Spanish fiction - I highly recommend it!

Un libro entretenido. El primero de una trilogia basada en la vida del rey Jaime I a principios del siglo XIII. Al principio un poco confuso debido a la cantidad de nombres pero poco a poco se va desenvolviendo dejandonos ver la trama de la historia. Un estilo simple y fluido que hizo la lectura facil y entretenida.
