Ava St. Clair simply wants to finish up the last few months of her senior year while having some fun with her friends. That is, until she finds Gabe Castille battered and bloody on her doorstep. She has no idea just how much her world is about to change because while she has always believed in Heaven and angels, she’s never given explicit thought to their counterparts.
Gabe’s entire life has consisted of lies, misery and a family he loathes but is unable to escape. When he is ordered to integrate himself into Ava’s life, he doesn’t dare question the reason. He doesn’t expect to find Ava tolerable, let alone likeable. The last thing he expects is to fall in love with her.
When he realizes he is in control of Ava's fate, he needs to make a choice. Will she find safety with him or will he be the one to deliver her into the hands of pure evil?
I read Amity Hope's book Twisted not too long ago and LOVED it. Amity then reached out to me to review Tainted Legacy and I jumped at the chance. She is such an amazing writer I knew this book was going to be good. Well, I was so wrong about the book being good ........BECAUSE IT WAS GREAT!!
Best Part of Book: GABE!!! Gabe is the best part of this book. Now, don't get me wrong I loved Ava and Grier too but Gabe stole my heart. At first, I just couldn't figure him out. Was he good or was he bad or was he just playing all sides? Amity kept me guessing all the way until the big reveal. Then I thought there was going to be a Happy Ending and all will be well......NOPE! Amity pulled the carpet from under me and I was sent into a Book Nerd Crying Fit!! She was killing me!! Thank goodness there is a Book 2: Pure Redemption .
Not so great about book: THE ENDING!! Oh, I cried so hard and I didn't even see it coming! ugh! I have to read book 2 because I need to know what happens.
I read this book a while ago and, to be honest, I didn't like it when I first started reading it. It grew on me, at first because I thought I simply wanted to find out how it ended, but then I realized that I was actually enjoying it!
READ THIS BOOK IF: 1. You love young adult paranormal romance books 2. You can relate to a "good" girl falling in love with a "bad" boy 3. You really like "bad" boys...mmmmm....
DO NOT READ THIS BOOK IF: 1. You don't plan to read the 2nd one - it DOES end in a cliffhanger and it WILL surprise you and you WILL NOT be able to live life until you get the 2nd book. It's that intense.
WHAT I LIKED ABOUT IT: 1. I've read a lot of books about vampires and aliens and witches and time travelers and other paranormal stuff, but I had never read a book about this PARTICULAR kind of ... well, "different" being. (I don't want to tell you what it is, because that's kind of the surprise of the book.) So I had a TON of fun trying to figure out what the big secret was and then, when I found out, I got absolutely sucked into the story and could hardly put it down.
2. Ava, the main female character, first struck me as kind of annoyingly goody-goody. I know too many girls like her. But then I realized that what bothered me is that she also reminded me of MYSELF. I was able to relate to her, which made me relate to Gabe that much more. The words that came out of Ava's mouth would probably have come out of mine if I were placed in her situation.
3. It ends in a cliffhanger, but the 2nd book was available immediately when I finished the book, so I could buy it instantly and it didn't leave me hanging for months like so many other books do.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT IT: 1. Sometimes the way it was written struck me as resembling that of a new author. I admit, I haven't done any research on this particular author, though I have heard that she has other books out, so I don't know just how "new" she is. I think it may just be her writing style, though.
2. Sometimes, I felt like Ava is just too "good." I know, I know, that is the whole point of the book - that Ava is "good" and Gabe is "bad" - but it got annoying after a little while. However, I must also add that I got used to her "goodness" and it stopped bothering me as much as the book continued.
I can't stress this enough:::: If you read this book, be prepared to also read the 2nd one. You won't be satisfied at the end of it. But it is totally worth it.
On a side note, I have bookmarked several parts of the book that I reread frequently, just because I like them so much. That has to mean something, right? :)
I liked this book and look forward to reading the next installment. The book throws some twists into the plot both expected and unexpected. And honestly I didn't see the end coming.
Ava is a good character not to weak as you get with some female protagonists and not so strong as to be unrealistic. She's relatable.
Gabe's character makes a nice foil for Ava's everyday girl personality. He's the dark tortured soul burden by his own past, but you like him because even in all the bad he does you can see the glimmers at the beginning of the anti-hero.
Also, as I saw in another review, thank goodness there is no love triangle. Honestly, the plot of this paranormal romance is so strong on its on that it didn't need one.
I wasn't sure what to expect when I downloaded this but I had just finished reading 'Twisted' by the same author and loved her writing style and narrative so kind of bought this on auto pilot. I was happy to find that I was quickly pulled into the story. The characters were well fleshed out and the plot was really good. Although a simple plot about evil trying to corrupt and snuff out good, the manner in which it was executed was new and refreshing. I loved the fact that the author took her time building up the relationship between Gabe and Ava, it made the finale all the more heart wrenching. I eagerly await the next installment.
Although this book deals heavily with angels and demons, it's not overly in-your-face about religion, which I appreciated.
I liked that Ava wasn't a pure goody-goody and I really like that Gabe has done terrible things in his past. So, all in all, I thought they were both good, flawed but learning, characters.
Some romance, lots of character growth, angels and demons, thousands of years old revenge...good read.
Amazing! This book...so much better than I anticipated. Amazing, unique storyline. Great character development, especially Gabe. He's the kind of guy you love to hate...until you decide you kind of just love him. Period. Loved the relationship progression with Gabe and Ava, great chemistry.
I dislike reading books that place me on a face where I can fall left and not care for the book or fall right and "just like it". The story plot is a good one, some of the characters are well rounded, other's I could do without.
The book starts out good, hooking me into the story. Then slowly unravels to a pace that would tire a snail. There are parts that pick up and the ending is the best part of the book. I'm not making a funny here, the pace picks up and the characters move along, feeding off one another and gives the reader something to sink their teeth into.
Parts of the book, I would just skim the Kindle page and move on.
There is a sequel to the book and I'm wondering if instead of drawing out the story, maybe combining both books would have resulted in a much better read.
This is definitely not one of those books that stay with you after you finish the story. However, since there is a sequel, I will torture myself with reading it just to see what happens to the characters.
U was pleasantly surprised this has been in my kindle for ages and I've just come across it thought I'd give it a go. Couldn't put it down I was interested to know what Gabe was and how the story was going to play out, can't wait to read the next book which I have already waiting hehe.
This book was so awesome!! I read it in one setting...mostly. It was everything I love in a book. Classic bad boy meets good girl and then some. This book is a must read for any paranormal romance reader, or any reader for that matter.
Gabe is one of the fallen he is sent to make friends with ava the only person he is destined to love. The purpose of this only his father and his evil brother know. The plot thicken and its good. Overall I reallylike how the characters developed.
