Shungiku Nakamura (中村春菊 Nakamura Shungiku?, born December 13,1980) is a Japanese yaoi manga artist. She is most famous for creating Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance. Shungiku Nakamura's distinct style of manga has been identified largely throughout Japanese and English yaoi fanbases. Her works usually include large age gaps between the seme and uke and characters with careers in the publishing industry (as depicted in Junjo Romantica and Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi). She often cowrites with Fujisaki Miyako, who authored the novels of Yoshino Chiaki no baai in Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi.
Works: Junjo Romantica: Pure Romance (2002 - Ongoing) "Junjou Mistake" (2008) Hybrid Child (2003 - 2004) Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi (2007 - Ongoing) "√W.P.B." (2004) "Touzandou Tentsui Ibun" (1998 - 1999) "Mangetsu Monogatari" "Tsuki wa Yamiyo ni Kakuru ga Gotoku" (1999) "Picturesque of a Mask" (art only) "Umi ni Nemuru Hana"
The only thing this manga has going for it is the story, what little of it that actually exists. The yaoi relationships are toxic as hell, which happens very often in yaoi and for why? Sexual assault on a minor, which results in unexpected romance? Hell no. What was wrong with you, younger me? Did you just want the smut back then? Lord…
This volume gives us stories on all three relationships.
First we get to see more of Akihiko's awkward older brother, Haruhiko, trying to get closer to Misaki... this time by bringing him to the Usami family home and locking him up in a storage closet!
Then we move on to Nowaki who started his medical training and is starting to feel run down. He wants some comfort from Hiroki but we already know that that sort of thing doesn't come naturally to him.
And finally, we get to witness the ridiculousness that is Shinobu and Miyagi's relationship. Apparently, they've been "together" for a few months now but it doesn't seem like Miyagi has been fully vested in it. He "allows" Shinobu to come over on the weekends and on days when school lets out early. They haven't been intimate with each other and from the way Shinobu reacted when Miyagi kissed him I don't think they've been doing much of that either.
Miyagi doesn't seem to want to move forward with their relationship and Shinobu gets tired of it. I'm sure he was trying to be patient with him but after seeing something (a picture?) in Miyagi's car he decides that it would probably be best to just end things. Oh the drama!
Overall, this was a great volume. I'm happy with how everything left off and am rooting for Shinobu and Miyagi's relationship.
I haven't been this excited about a manga series in a very long time. About three storylines are happening at once, and each pairing is unique and exciting. Each pairing will bring you tears of sorrow and joy at some point during the reading adventure. Something I did not expect was how much I enjoyed the art in this manga. The panels were all very well utilized; the story moves in a gentle flow that keeps you floating through the pages until you hit the end!
I am really loving the added detail this manga has more than the anime. There are some scenes we didn't get the anime and I really wish we did. Or some dialogue we never got. This volume I loved the Terrorist pairing. Just the more in depth to their story really made me feel for them. Especially Miyagi. How desperate he was becoming. And his anger.
Junjou Romantica Act 8-9: Its the day of the party and Usagi is still angry about the flowers. To prevent any scandals, Isaka tells Misaki is best if you doesn't hang around Usagi more than necessary. "You won't want to cause any trouble for Usagi would you." This here is what bothers Misaki for the rest of the Act. While going to the bathroom, he runs into Haruhiko who says that he likes him and wants to take him from Usagi. Misaki runs away and runs into Usagi who he then tells him what happened. He prevents Usagi from going after him and after Isaka tries to get Usagi to come back and fails he leaves. Usagi tells Misaki that he belongs to him which Misaki denies. They make love facing an open window. The Act ends with Misaki receiving some strawberries from Haruhiko which Usagi is not at all happy about..
Act 9: After the party, Misaki is still receiving strawberries. One day after school he runs into Haruhiko. He tries to tell him that he doesn't need to send strawberries anymore, but he doesn't seem to understand. Not to attract attention, Haruhiko suggests that Misaki get the car and they continue at his house. Ever curious about the childhood home of his landlord, he gets in the car which Usagi sees who happens be driving by. Back at the mention, we meet the dog, the maid, and the butler. While waiting for Haruhiko we discover somethings about the two brothers. Haruhiko comes in the room to persuade Misaki to live there instead. But Misaki refused. Before anymore can be said, the brother gets a phone call and locks Misaki is the room until he finishes. Usagi comes walking in, demanding Misaki, but his brother insists that he is already gone. With the dog barking, Usagi, the maid, and the butler run in time to see Misaki falling the window after trying to get down with sheets thus spraining his ankle. The two and have sex in the car. The Act ends with Misaki receiving tons of cherries because he absentmindedly told Haruhiko it was what he liked.
Loved that eventually Misaki and Usagi figured out that Isaka played them. It never happened in the anime. I really wish it did. Just imagine how funny it would be to see Usagi's expression and him wanting to kill Isaka.
Junjou Egoist Act 10: Kinda hard what to say about this Act. It's a cute Act from the perspective of how Nowaki feels.
Junjou Terrorist Act 4: It's been a few months since the Professor meet the student. Shinobu comes overs when he gets out of class early or on the weekends. He still makes cabbage stir fry. One day when Miyagi tells him to wait in the car, for him to do something, before taking him home. Shinobu sees something in the car and he decides to go home alone leaving Miyagi confused. Then he starts acting weird, he will still visit but he won't talk much or make eye contact, leaving Miyagi to try and figure out what is going on with him. After a confrontation, Shinobu says its over cause he doesn't want a relationship out of sympathy leaving Miyagi bewildered.
Το vol.
My two fave lovers are back and better than ever. What can I say about Usagi and Misaki that I haven’t said before, well for starters Misaki’s got a new admirer in the name of Usagis’s brother and that becomes complicated because the famous BL (Boy Love) writer doesn’t like to share with his siblings.
Seems that the older brother developed a crush after Misaki told him off but it comes down to this he just wants what his brother has, so he sends his seduction in that of gifts and M feels enough is enough already so he’s gonna tell him to stop. That meeting proves distratious and he gets whisked to Usagi’s childhood home. Curiously does kill the cat, cus hes curious to see the childhood home of the lover he has yet to acknowledge as is lover. Haruhiko (Usagis brother) decides he’s gonna lock M up and move in for the kill but Misaki is not having that, he comes up with a escapes scene that belongs in a movie or anime, lol. So it’s Usagi to the rescue, which leads to some fighting and yelling about whom M belongs. The funniest stuff I read.
Junjo is pure gold whether you enjoy BL or not. Misaki’s denial about what he feels for Usagi is just downright hilarious, but when it comes to his body he can’t deny his touch. The other stories are just as interesting but not as funny more dramatic, still just as good. I will be a fan forever this series is a Japanese classic. I can’t wait to continue, on a side note the anime is just as funny and can be found under the same name.
Misaki and Usami attend a congratulatory party in Usami's honor, where Misaki is asked to prentend that he's not Usami's boyfriend. Hirahiko wants to steal Misaki away from Usami. Why he wants Misaki I don't know. Get a glimpse of Usami as a child, he was quiet, withdrawn and lonely. Miyagi is having trouble figuring out what his relationship with Shinobu is and the age gap is bothering him. Shinobu is bothered by an old picture, thinking that he doesn't mean anything to Miyagi. I like this couple, Miyagi is an adult and being in love with some one so young is hard, he won't admit to himself that he likes Shinobu. Very complicated.
Five stars of course! I cannot explain how much I adore this series. (The anime was amazing too!) Misaki and Usagi-san are pretty epic as well as the two other couples. The series is halarious as well. Definitely worth the read.
Usagi, Misaki, Miyagi and Shinobou all were various kinds of annoying in this volume (knowing that Misaki does grow up makes it bearable, though), but I just love the strawberry overload problem. And Hiroki kissing Nowaki is <3 <3 <3 (That's why it's four stars and not just three.)
This volume was again, very funny. I'm excited to get a bit farther in the Terrorist arc, but the Romantica arc took hold here and we are finally getting some background to Usagi's life. Also, I love that every time anyone sees a butler in this series, they call him Sebastian. Lol
Drama fills the air with Usagi's older brother wanting to steal Misaki away! Haruhiko kidnaps Misaki, Misaki hurts himself escaping, and Isagi saves Misaki (ish). The short Egoist bit.....loooove it. Miyagi is such an idiot! Men are such idiots! Just, just talk to each other!!!! GAH!

Ohgod so good~ 😍 Usagi and Misaki's relationship is encountering misunderstandings with the arrival of Usagi-ani and the strawberry hell! I really enjoyed this volume and we got to see how lonely Usagi was until dear Misaki came along 😭💖
