Rate this book
“Hellbent House” is a novelette length story (approximately 35 printed pages) from Randy Chandler's collection, Devils, Death & Dark Wonders, also available in ebook and print.

Haunted by a house seen only in her dreams, Ava locates the old plantation house in the real world and makes the mistake of venturing inside. She lands in the middle of an honest-to-goodness ghost story with murderous roots in the Civil War, but in this hellbent house, there are things far worse than ghosts. And one of them is hungry for Ava's soul.

Also included is an excerpt of Randy Chandler's previously out-of-print and hard-to-find novel HELLz BELLz, now available on Kindle and Nook.

I picked this story up for free on Halloween and it was perfect for that day.
It had a bit of gothic atmosphere to it, (but it's not a gothic story) which I enjoyed.
A woman dreaming about an old house and feeling that it's calling to her is a good premise and
I feel like the story lived up to that premise. It came with an alternate ending, but I preferred
the first one.

I thought this was a good short novella as an entry into a new full length book for this author. It normally takes alot for a short novel to really strike me so I didn't have alot of expectations for this one, but it wasn't all bad either. The full length novel looks good.

For whatever reason, I thought this was a novel when I started it - not a short story. So when it kind of jumped headlong into the action and the spooky stuff, I felt like the author should be romancing the reader a little before getting to all that. But as a short story, this approach works. And it works well. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. A creepy offering chock full of unsettling visuals and brutal happenings, "Hellbent House" by Randy Chandler will certainly send me looking for more to read from him in the future. Maybe it'll even be a novel about the house in this story. *hint, hint*

This book had an alternate ending, I thought that was neat. It was a good story, if the author had expanded upon the details it could have been a really great book. I liked the idea of not being able to escape one's past even when it is unknown.

I absolutely Loved this short story and wanted more. I got this as a Kindle freebie and I have never read anything by this author before. I cannot wait to read more. This story reminded me of the writings by Edward Lee - which the author should take as a huge compliment.

I enjoyed this one, but was disappointed at the same time. I was just getting into the story, and BAM! it was done. The story was only 35% or so of the digital file. The remainder is a sneak peak of the author's novel, and I never read sneak peaks.
