College student Noah Lane’s best friend always joked life was over once you turned twenty-one. Imagine Noah’s surprise when that rings true the night before his twenty-first birthday as he finds himself hopelessly protecting a beautiful homeless girl from a magical assassin. Noah didn’t die that night, but his normal life was over. Waking up from the worst birthday ever, Noah finds out his world has quite literally been turned upside-down. He's been ripped from the human world and dropped into one where magic still exists and fairy tale creatures are the norm. Not only that, but there are four other killers on the odd girl's trail. With no way home and a strange darkness growing inside him, Noah has no choice but to follow her, along with a schizophrenic werewolf and his pet Winnebago, as they journey across the magical countryside in an attempt to escape the remaining killers and destroy the mysterious being that sent them. He’ll need to embrace the darkness in order to protect his new friends and the two worlds, but in the process he might become the very thing they are running from and the catalyst that destroys everything.

I'm not sure about this book.
I dropped it few months ago a little bit into the fairy lands. It was just boring and I disconnected from it.

Then, during Christmas holidays, out of desperation for too little books and no wi-fi connection to download more I tried this again.

It gets more interesting after the second half. I wouldn't say it's well written or anything, but it's ok, some parts are even nice.

What made the book almost unreadable were the two main characters that unfortunately were omnipresent and annoying. They were so clichè that I couldn't remember their names for the life of me. The sideline characters are more interesting, and original. THey actually have interesting conversations. Also the world building have a few interesting elements.

Great book! I really enjoyed the POV from Noah, an average college student. Noah bumps into Luna on his way home, and is stuck in the other world, where magic, werewolve and vampires exists. He saves Luna and gains mysterious powers.
I like the quest and the creatures they meet on their way.
I enjoyed the all the characters and the plot. There were a few editing mistakes, but it didn't bother me. It was a fast and easy read. I would recommend this to younger readers. I counted one bad cuss word, maybe two. There was romance, but it isn't the main theme. More important was the quests and the journey. The ending was interesting and different.
Mr. Faulkner is a talented writer and storyteller.

I would have to say this is a solid 3.75 stars. This was a good book, it kept me interested. The premises of this book is weird to say the least. I felt like I fell into the phantom tollbooth. Poor Noah gets dragged into another dimension by Luna. The world is the same as ours but magical. Talking werewolves who never fully humanize, talking fish, abandoned cars that run on Dragon blood (i.e. fossil fuel)and have a mind of their own. It crosses the line between downright silly and very, very serious to save the world from takeover from Prometheus. I liked it enough that I think I will have to read the second book.

Kindle freebie that was worthy of real money. This book started slow for me, but once I made it past the turtle people, things advanced quickly. There is a definite hero arc going on, but Noah isn't a bumbling idiot to start, which is nice for this genre. On his 21st birthday his entire life - at least on this plane of existence - is forever altered.

Faulkner creatively paints an interesting world over our world and even accounts for missing people. The action wasn't sporadic and the flow of the character development and story were well defined. The book can stand alone, if you don't mind large cliff-hangers. I would read more from this author and enjoyed the adventure.

I was SO excited to read this book, but couldn't seem to get past the first few chapters - for some reason, the characters were all dull and unrelatable, and the story just didn't suck me in.

If you like this book I recommend reading Neverwhere, it has similar story.
