Years before the harm done by Michael Montoure’s SLICES, long before the scars started to form in PERMANENT DAMAGE, this is where you received your first warnings.
Discover the power of images on a screen in “Running Time” and “Interference.” Break the last taboos by “Feeding the Flesh” and playing “A Game of Cities.” Watch as a thief with ten nimble fingers is “Counting from Ten” down to nothing at all.
But you can’t stop here. You have to keep going. It’s the only way to be safe.
You still haven’t been to “Playworld,” where children worship at new altars. You haven’t flipped through the pages of “The Catalog,” in which a killer finds his needs can be met for a price. You need to learn how even imaginary friends can be pushed too far in “Real Enough.” Discover the perfect “Wedding Present” — and find out just how dangerous it can be to walk away from it. Find out how even the oldest stories can be seen from new and deadly angles in “The Wolf’s Tale” and “Passion Play.” And if the hours slip away from you, if you hear “Tuesday Calling” — you’ll know not to answer.
An unreliable narrator, Michael Montoure is an indie writer of horror and dark urban fantasy. His obsessions include hidden truths, secret dealings, and the changing and fragile nature of our own pasts. He is known as much for his spoken-word performances of his fiction at Seattle coffeehouses and conventions as for the stories themselves. He lives alone with a gray cat by the edge of Echo Lake, Washington.
I have received a free copy of this book through a GoodReads First Reads giveaway. I've read that short stories catch a lot of flack in the literary world, but they have been and will remain my absolute favorite. Especially with authors like Michael Montoure contributing. This book contains 12 stories, they range from unsettling to downright terrifying. I thought about a quick review of individual stories, but I'll spare you that horror. His is way better. Read it! Not everyone enjoys reading about what inspired particular stories, but I do. So, I was delighted when I realized the author gives a brief summary from each tale in the final pages.
I can say I honestly did not know what to expect. I received the book free through good reads and since I love to read most anything I opened this up. The very first story was an interesting and enthralling first story to read. After that one I was interested to see what all the other ones were about. The author is original, imaginative and sometimes downright terrifyingly creative. I enjoyed every piece in this collection and found it particularly convenient to read as I don't have the time I used to anymore. So, I could lose myself in a very engaging story for short bursts and then it ended and I was able to pick it up again later and start with a whole new story!
Such an amazing collection of creepy, scary & disturbing short stories! I will absolutely be reading the wolf/red riding hood story during our next camping trip! So many fun things to read to unsuspecting friends late at night!! I'm glad I was able to read this 10th anniversary edition of it because the authors’ notes are wonderful! Plus you get a 'lil behind the scenes action about each story at the end of the book, which is awesome! I'm looking so forward to the next book!
I recieved this e-book to read for free from the author Michael himself. And talk about a freakishly refreashing, the short stories are just brilliant. Quite diturbingly fantastic,i loved them all!! Highly recommened!!!!!
