Can I be let-down when I end up liking a book that I was expecting to hate? You know that book rants are like chocolate to me. I need. I crave. I indulge way too much to be considered normal.

The hero of this book is called Anders and he was kind of a dick in past books. I was looking forward to him acting like an alpha-asshole and me getting to call him an alpha-asshole. It's my thing. I even have a bookshelf dedicated to them. I feel really good when I rail on an A.A., and I get my feminist card punched. Just two more to go and I get a free sandwich - made by a man of course.

So, imagine my surprise when Anders turned into a sweet, fuzzy teddy bear when he meets his life-mate. What the hell, Anders? He was a gushy pile of goo. I actually kind of liked him. A total sweetie.

I liked his love-interest too. She was nice, smart enough, and even saved a house full of women who were being tortured. She never acted too-stupid-to-live. She wasn't a damsel in distress. And, yet she wasn't annoyingly perky or quirky or sassy. Damn! This means I liked both of the MC's.

So, how am I supposed to review this book? Don't worry, friends. There were still some things I could make fun of. Isn't there always?

First, let's start with the fact that our main girl, Valerie (see? not even a stupid name), is a veterinarian and has an awesome German Shepherd. You know that I love dogs and think cats are the spawn of satan. Well, Valerie is one of those dog owners who has the dog so well trained, they are like some sort of indoctrinated, kool-ade drinking minion who frankly creeps everyone out. You know the type - the dog isn't allowed on furniture, to eat scraps, has to go through a bunch of tricks to get their food dish filled, sits and waits for the owner's word before walking out a door, etc... Meanwhile, my dogs and I are laying on the couch eating pizza. My dogs didn't want me to continue reading when they saw this turn of events. It became a "scary movie" night after that. We needed our throw blanket and some stuffed animals to cuddle.

Next, I need to mention the fact that although she doesn't have an idiotic name, and he is called "Anders", we find out his real first name in this book and I'm kind of mad. I mean, why would anyone do this to a character? His name is Semen. That's right. Semen. And, if that isn't bad enough, she starts calling him Semmy. She calls out "Semmy" in the throes of passion and we are supposed to just take this lying down? No. Just no.

The dog is right. Ain't nobody got time for that kind of bullshit.

And, my final complaint? These vampire cops are dumb, man. I mean, come on. They should actually be smarter than mortal cops. They have been around for thousands of years. And yet, they always make stupid bone-head moves that make me shake my head. They also never seem to see the most obvious traps or bad guys that a teenager from a horror movie would spot.

Oh well. At least they are pretty.

Immortal Ever After is the 18th book in Lynsay Sands’ insanely popular Argeneau series, and a fun, exciting, sexy story! I’ve read more than my fair share of the paranormal romance genre, most especially vampires. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about these tormented souls that draw me in and keep me coming back for more. It’s not often that I fall in love during my first read of a series, but I fell - and fell hard - for the Argeneau world.
From the cover:

A kiss doesn’t mean eternity . . .

Valerie Moyer doesn’t believe in vampires—until she is kidnapped by a fanged psychopath! After escaping her bloodthirsty captor, she’s through with creatures of the night. Until she finds herself under the protection of the darkly handsome Anders. Not only is she expected to accept that Anders is immortal, but also that she is the woman destined to be his life mate!

. . . Or does it?

Anders felt a connection to Valerie from the moment he cradled her bruised body in his arms. But before he claims her, he must destroy the vampire who almost stole her from him forever. His job would be easier if Valerie didn’t fight him every step of the way. Still, Anders loves a challenge, and the green-eyed beauty is worth fighting for!
Immortal Ever After is my first taste of Lynsay Sands’ writing and I was very pleased! This world she’s created is exciting, and the characters are intriguing, compelling, and very sexy.

I usually hate coming into a series mid-way because I either end up lost or cringing at the information dump we have to endure. Thankfully, I was neither lost nor cringing because Ms. Sands did a great job of giving us the Argeneau world background without making me feel like I was reading a text book. The story is well written and through dialog between characters – old and new – she imparts everything new readers need to know to feel like we’re part of the story, not just reading about it.

Anders is such a great guy! I can see why everyone loves him, and anyone who’s been anxiously awaiting his story will be very happy! He’s so much fun… open but shy, strong but vulnerable, and not just sexy but super sexy! He’s the kind of vampire I want for my very own!

Valerie is a great heroine. What she’s endured would break most women, but not her. Even though everything she ever thought she knew about the world around her has been turned upside down, she holds it together and does what she has to to survive.

The bottom line: In case you didn’t get it, I really enjoyed this book, and while it was my first experience with Ms. Sands’ Argeneau series, it most certainly will not be my last!

My thanks to Avon Books for providing me with a copy of this story I exchange for an honest review.

Vampires Immortals

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 😳🤬😏🤓

The heroine: Valerie - kidnapped and kept in a small cage for weeks, Valerie was weak, hungry and hurting when she is finally able to escape. Though after collapsing, she wakes up to find that she was taken to a safe house instead of a hospital.

The Hero(s): Anders (a.k.a. “Simi”) - He is a 3000 year old immortal and his given name is Semen (No Joke! I googled it and it is a real name), though he goes by his last name “Anders” for obvious reasons.

The Story: It becomes apparent from the start that Valerie is the fated mate to Anders when her can’t read her mind. However, after Valerie’s experience she is obviously not ready to hear about what Anders really is.

I liked this story though it wasn’t one of the best of the series. The narration was fine, Paula Christianson did a good job, though I like dual POV with male and female narrators better. Anders was a quiet Broody guy at the beginning. I just love those types of Hero’s and Valerie was an extremely strong heroine, she got herself out of some bad situations and was no wilting violet.

Another great addition to the Argeneau series. Read this one in less than 24 hours, it just grabbed me from page one. It seems like the books in this series are either very light hearted and almost silly in the angst that the characters get into or they are darker and more serious and meaty while still being such fun to read. Immortal Ever After is definitely one of the more serious additions to this long running series. I love the way that this author weaves humor, strong alpha males and stubborn independent females all around either an outrageously wild situation or a very serious threat. In this book we get to catch a glimpse of past leads and see how they are doing after their H.E.A, and with 18 titles there are plenty of characters I would love to see again, I must re-read this series sometime. We get to see one of my favorite former Alpha leads who is always so tough and scary but still lovable, Lucian and his life mate Leigh as they reach the end of Leigh's pregnancy. It was really fun to watch as they drove each other nuts with Leigh's independent streak and Lucian's overbearing protectiveness. I really do recommend this series to my friends that love paranormal, they are great books that will suck you in and leave you laughing out loud.

3.5 It’s okay stars.

I keep on listening to this series via audio because it’s at my library but I feel very disconnected to the characters. I think the secondary characters play such a mega role in this series that if you don’t read the books in order, you don’t get all the feels.

I should have been entertained, I have the damsel in distress storyline and who doesn’t like it when the Hero chases after the heroine? But for the life of me I found this book mega blah. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good.

I think I used the book more for background noise than anything else. I did like the narrator. She could voice act and I felt like she fit the character pretty well.

Readers will fall in love with this romantic urban fantasy . Lynsay Sands gets back to what works best with the latest in her popular Argeneau Family series . Rogue Hunter , Anders , finds his life mate in Valerie...not your usual damsel in distress .
Valerie is the perfect life mate for the uber- sexy Anders . This girl don't need no hero . Kidnapped & caged by a psycho vampire wanna be intent on making her his midnight snack, fiesty Valerie makes good her own escape . By staking one of her kidnappers she saves not only her own chops but the rest of the menu as well . Her 911 call brings Anders & his crew of hunters .
Anders unexpectantly finds his life mate when he answers a 911 call . He realizes that he can't read Valerie's mind . He has found his life mate at long last ...and she's just been ravaged by one of his own kind . Clearly , she's gonna need some time to ease into a trusting relationship before he reveals the truth to her . But how much time does he have when her captor - a rogue - starts hunting his victims .
I loved this story . Sands injected it with her trademark brand of suspence , humor , & steamy sex . It's a sexy read loaded with plenty of action . We see lots of old faces . Lucian & Leigh & their bundle of joy get lots of face time . Immortal Ever After is a must read for fans of the Argeneau Family series . Fans old & new are gonna love it ! I'm giving it a high five for Lynsay Sands & her latest hit .

The anticipation of reading this book for me was almost overwhelming! For those of you who read the Argeneau series, you know the character Marguerite. Well… I am a Marguerite groupie! What is that? You ask? Well, this woman thinks it is her sole duty to see all of the people she comes in contact with in any slight way to be matched with their Life Mates, those who they will spend eternity with… blissfully!

This book was about Anders (one I love), an Enforcer for the Immortals, ensuring that the laws aren’t broken and when they are… well, he and his fellow enforcers are there to take care of things, a police officer for Immortals if you will. I was just so happy. Part of the job as an enforcer is to monitor the mortal police radio to see if odd calls come through, things with key words, vampire, bite, stake and… well you get the idea. So when a call came through with those very words they checked it out to see if it was a Vampire Wannabe or something more sinister, known to the enforcers as Rogues.

Valerie had spent 10 days drugged in a cage that she could barely sit up in with a freak who thought he was a vampire! He had captured quite a few women, kept them in the dark and barely fed and had his minion Igor as they had come to call him, drag one of them up basement stairs every night so his boss could practice gnawing on necks and drain them of blood in the process, at least that is what she assumed happened.

3.5 stars

This installment was pretty good. I enjoyed most of it. The upside was the heroine, who was pretty cool. The hero Anders was a good guy, but was a bit robotic. I just did not get a lot of emotion or depth from him. Overall the book dragged in the middle. Way too much Leigh whining about being really pregnant, eating, cooking food and shopping for food. I cannot believe how many pages were devoted to this!

The beginning was exciting. The ending was good but a little anti-climactic. Except we finally get a pay off in the Leigh - Lucian relationship. That was worth it!

The relationship between Anders and Valerie started really blah...Anders was not convinced she was his lifemate because he did not feel overwhelmed by her. That was until they touched. Then he was convinced pretty fast. It heated up for sure, but she as not totally sure until the end.

Safety Gang safe

Solid 4 stars! It's an Argeneau novel after all. : )

IMMORTAL EVER AFTER, an Argeneau novel by Lynsay Sands is, as always expected from Lynsay, a delightful read, threaded with humor, danger, and of course, plenty of steamy seduction on the part of Anders, but I was surprised and excited about how singular and independent Valerie Moyer was in every situation. She's a heroine to admire. She's not afraid to take matters into her own hands whether it is escaping from a rogue immortal or seducing Anders because she just can't resist climbing such an incredibly tall drink of water. I wish it had been a tad bit longer and had a bit more action but it was still a wonderful read and I loved the inclusion of Roxy, a faithful and loyal canine companion. It was a joy to be witness to the domestication of Lucian, and of course, it's always a joy to have that adorable Justin Bricker hanging around as well as many of our other favorites.

I highly recommend IMMORTAL EVER AFTER by Lynsay Sands to anyone who has never read an Argeneau novel, because once you read this one, you'll definitely be scrambling to read more. For those Argeneau fans who have waited patiently for Anders HEA, it's here, and you're going to fall madly in love with this man. As if we weren't already halfway there with his strong, silent type aura that has always surrounded him. Lynsay has come through once again to provide us with an endearing, exciting, and as ever, romantic happy-ever-after paranormal romance.

I enjoyed this book as I have all the Argeneau books. It has the same quirky sense of humor and several characters from previous books make an appearance adding to the feeling of "a visit home".

In life I would probably like Valerie and Anders very much. They are loyal, intelligent, and have a good solid dose of common sense that is admirable. Valerie is a strong heroine, saving herself several times which is a nice change of pace.

My problem with the book was the two protagonists weren't all that exciting. Their story was as laid back as their personalities, but it lacked oomph. I also felt as though I was being told how Valerie and Anders felt, not shown. An example of this is the nightmares Valerie had after her ordeal. We were told she had them, but that was about the extent of it - very little real emotion.

Still, a solid read about a group of immortals (don't call them vampires, they don't like that term - lol) that I enjoy visiting, and characters I would love to meet.

Maybe I am in a book rut. Maybe I have read all the good ones, but everything I have touched in the last couple of days have been less than stellar. I started this series on book whatever, of course not starting with book 1.
It would also appear that I am the only one out of 8,000 readers that found this less than 18 stars. GO ME.
description
If you are looking for a good book to put you to sleep, you have stumbled across the right one. Despite me liking Anders, Leigh, Lucian, even Margarite (to be honest, I have no fucking clue where this character even popped up from), I couldn’t stomach Valerie. Every time she spoke I was tempted to bash my face into my kindle.
Here goes:
Valerie is kidnapped and stuffed into a small 4x4x4x4 cage. She is housed in the basement with 6 other women. Valerie was chosen, on this lucky day, to be taken to the “Master”, on her “outing” she stabs Igor in the heart with a table leg, freeing herself and the other women.
At this point, the enforcers show up. Oooohhhh…..
Anders falls madly in love with Valerie and wants to bond with her. Isn’t that sweet…
Valerie is one of those heroines who don’t know what she wants. Do I want to shave my legs? Yes, but wait no I don’t. I will shave half of my leg, which will show the world I can make my own decisions. One second she doesn’t want Anders near her and hides in her room, the next she is stripping and making the “O” face.
Anders is in a predicament, does he tell the insta-love-of-his-life about who he really is? Hell, he doesn’t even know who he is. Is he a vampire? According to him he is NOT. But yet, he has to drink blood to live and is immortal, oh and he can read minds and manipulate humans. If you have to drink blood to survive, I would say you are Vampire.
Now, on to the whole “do I tell her or not?” At what point do you think it is a good idea to hold a secret from a female? We are Fort Knox with remembering betrayals, WE DO NOT FORGET . To be honest if she is stripping and allowing you in the golden cave of love, I highly doubt she will care what you are. Just saying.
With all that being said, I got through 50% of this oh inspiring book, deleted it from my kindle and shut the blasted thing off.

Like many long running series, you go into them knowing what to expect, that is what this series is for me. They are filled with light, fluffy, fun.

I loved Valerie, loved that she didn't wait around for someone to save her, but went about saving herself. I really liked that Anders knew she was his life mate, which helped set up things for later. For some reason I found all the action in Leigh and Lucian's house to be funny, mostly because the action wasn't action per se, but the normal everyday routine of the immortals trying to hide what they were. I think by allowing Valerie to get to know them in this normal way helped her accept things.

It was funny how Valerie found out about the immortals. I loved how Anders kept making her promise to listen and not walk away. Almost as funny was when Valerie first saw Bricker feed. Her checking out his teeth like a horse had me laughing.

Leigh kept me laughing all through this one with her pushy ways making everyone do what she wanted them to. I also loved her getting back at Lucian by programing certain ring tones to his phone. I did admire her when trouble seemed to find her and Valerie at the same time she went into labor.

On a side note, I have to say that I loved Anders real name!! I can just see the author sitting down and coming up with the name, then having to stop writing to laugh her ass off. Then once her hands are steady and the tears cleaned up from her face, her letting her other author friends know, causing more peels of laughter.

I am a stalker when it comes to the Argeneau series, so when I saw this as an ARC in edelweiss I requested it without any idea of who the main characters were or what the plot was!!

This started out very very dark, honestly it was a bit scary. It did not start out as a Lynsay Sand's typical lighthearted Argeneau book. Someone was kidnapping women, drugging them and keeping them prisoner in a small cage. What was scary was that the guard would take one of the girls where they would become the "toy" for a sadistic vampire.. Luckily, the sexy Anders is nearby and is just the perfect bodyguard that Valerie needs.. In the previous books in this series, Anders is always portrayed as a loner, a quiet one... but it was fun reading how he deals with finding his life mate. Wait until you hear the "nickname" Valerie gives him, LOL. This book is filled with twists and turns until a final showdown at the end...

We see our favorite vampire/lifemate couples throughout this story, like a homecoming. I love the antics of Leigh, she is hilarious. As this is the 18th book in the series, I am wondering if it will continue, I think all of the main and secondary characters have had their story told, well the only one i think left my be Justin. I hate to see this series end, but we may have run out of romance and life mates to pair up.

I liked this book well enough. As with the others in this series, it's a light, fun read. However, sloppy writing and dumb decisions by a secondary female caused me to get pulled out of the story a few times while reading it. The sloppy writing I'm referring to mostly happened at the beginning of the book, where the heroine would say something about herself (ex, she took martial arts lessons) to the hero, and then the information would be repeated to the hero a few pages later, and he would act as though he had never heard the information. So, either the book needed some more editing, or the hero is a little mentally deficient. Luckily, this only happened a few times, mainly while the background of the heroine was being revealed. The main thing I've grown tired of in this series are the dumb decisions that the females make. It's not that they're TSTL, it's just that they act in ways that seem to be uncharacteristic - it's as though the writer can't think of any other way to put them in danger. **SPOILERISH** For example, if Veronica is being stalked by two rogues, why would Leigh encourage her to leave the safe house just because Leigh didn't want to pee in someone eles's house? And why would Veronica agree to go? I mean, really?? **END SPOILER**

Neither of these were enough to keep me from enjoying the book, but they did lower my rating of this book from almost 4 stars down to about 3.25. I am looking forward to reading the next book, as these book are great palate-cleansers between heavier books on my TBR list.

First of all, the cover. Is this man hugging some sort of architectural element? Not a winner.

I liked this book. It seemed to be a return somewhat to the earlier feel of the series. I have a tendency to like stories about the older vampires. The heroine was very nice. She was plucky and very resourceful and it seemed natural that she would respond well to the idea of vampires/immortals given how she was written. I thought Anders was well written and sweet. I liked the scenes from his POV where he was coming to terms with what he felt for her and how he planned to convince her to turn.

It was lovely to see so much of Lucien and Leigh. I wasn't as fond of the books that wandered to far from the Argeneaus. This book wasn't part of an overarching plot line which is fine with me. It was more of a day in the life sort of book. I many times prefer that sort. The guys are out on a routine rogue call and one of them meets his life mate. It's all wrapped up in one book and the next one can be another guy on another day.

Fans of the series should like this one and it wouldn't be hard to pick up the series here if you were a newby. It would be easy to understand what was going on.

The book features our hero Anders and our heroine Valerie. It starts off with Valerie being kidnapped and held hostage with 6 other young women. Each are kept drugged and in cages and are brought out for dinner one night a week. The women can't see each other due to being kept in a dark basement but find talking to each other helps sooth some of the horror. All the women believe that the guy and his helper (dubbed Igor) are crazy, that he's living some weird Vampire fantasy. Eventually Valerie realizes that their food is being drugged and decides that she will forego her daily meal of oatmeal and water to keep her wits about her when it's time for her night out. When her night arrives, she is lucid enough to concoct an escape plan. She pretends at first to be drugged, all the while looking for anything that can be used as a weapon. When she is dragged into an upstairs bathroom, she jumps her assailant and stakes him. She, of course, finds a phone to call 911 but then hears the garage door opening and realizes that who she assaulted was only Igor and the bigger threat is on his way to her. After she calls 911, she makes her escape through a window, knowing the police won't make it in time to help her.
Enter our hero, Anders. His group of Vampire/Immortal enforcers have waylaid the 911 call and have arrived at the house in question to clean up the rouge immortals' mess and bring him to justice without letting the mortals know their kind exist. After a thorough investigation and look around the property, Anders ends up finding Valerie passed out in the bushes due to her injuries, starvation and a jump from a two-story house. When Anders decides to try to give her some medical attention, she ends up waking up in the process and it's at that moment, when Anders tries to enter her mind to soothe her, that he realizes he can't read her......(queue the "dun, dun, dun" music).
OK enough spoilers! If you aren't familiar with Lynsay Sands Argeneau Series, It's about a family of Immortal Atlantians who were subject to an Atlantian medical experiment gone array. They were injected with Nanos but when Atlantis fell, no one was there to help take them out. The Nanos have evolved to give the descendants the classic "Vampire" attributes but they claim they are not vampires. Anywho, one of the attributes is a selection process by the Nanos for their host in which they choose the perfect "life mate" and one of the tale tell signs is not being able to mind read that person.
All the false Vampire/Atlantian stuff aside, Lynsay Sands has brought to the PNR world a wonderful series with the Argeneau's. It's definitely a classic HEA based in the PNR world. Each book features some descendant from the original Argeneau family or central character to the books. They are definitely fun reads with very strong characters. What I loved most about this book is that the heroine, Valerie, is definitely not the typical female PNR mortal character waiting for rescue from the big sexy Vampire man. All through the book, she is rescuing herself and/or others. Anders very rarely is on the scene when rescuing is needed, which is actually kind of funny.
As a fan of the series, I definitely thought this was a great addition to the ongoing series and would highly recommend it for a PNR read.

Well... erm... it's not bad... I've read much worse... and the steamy parts are awesome... but the mid-beginning bothers me.

It starts out really good with some intense-suspense scenes, but after those scenes end, there's no weening phase or quiver. Yes, she brings the suspenseful scenes back as "knowledge" that it had happened, but there's no haunting memory, no unsureness, quivering of returning to normal life. In fact, she dumps the story right into a friendly relationship as if the character had been friends with this other character all along.

I'm sorry, but situations of kidnapping and terror don't just go away in the span of three or four days, especially not when that terrifying moment lasted two weeks, as she put in her book. It just doesn't work like that. It's a nightmare you never woke up from. Nightmares we suffer with in our dreams may last us all day, but a nightmare that we endured AWAKE, for two weeks mind you, will last several months, if it ever even goes away. It makes getting into her book and taking it serious very difficult.

I found myself just skimming over and reading the dialogue to get the gist. It's all I really can do with it. I feel I've wasted my money on it.

I'm sorry if you like this book, but it just bothers me a whole lot. Maybe it's my knowledge of the matter, and how I've done enough research to know the long-term effects of trauma.

And on a side note, sorry if this post seemed disjointed any. I'm adding my thoughts on cop-killers and media to a blog.

And again a Rogue Hunter finds his life mate...

I just love the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands. And one more time she didn't disappoint. Though it's not my favorite episode.

I couldn't connect with Anders but that's just a question of personal taste and has nothing to do with the writing or the story.

For me these books are like

With a lot of

Very much of

And a little bit of

It was great to meet some of the previous couples. Especially Lucian and Leigh!

So everyone who likes (not so scary) vampires, charming characters, humor and HEA's will get what he/she is searching for.

Anders has been an Enforcer for many years and has watched his fellow Enforcers fall victim to life mates one by one. When an unusual 911 call comes in that the Enforcers respond to, Anders is amazed to find he has discovered his life mate.

Valerie has literally just escaped from the house of Hell. She had been kidnapped and held in a cage with several other women for almost 2 weeks. She managed to stab one of her captors and call 911. When she is talking to her rescuers she doesn't know how to explain to them that she was attacked by a psycho vampire. There is no such as thing as vampires, right?

When she is taken back to Lucien and Leigh's house for recovery she doesn't question the kindness of the ones who rescued her and finds that she is quickly falling for the sexy Enforcer, Anders. When they all realize that she is Anders life mate they attempt to show her what he really is like and a very pregnant Leigh makes a great matchmaker!

description

This was so bad...
--lame Scooby Gang of vampires...oh, sorry..."immortals". Same damn thing, just call them what they are for godsakes. Stop trying to be original, cuz you're not!
-tedious, uninteresting, one dimensional characters I couldn't give a feck about.
-boring villain and suspense subplot that pretty much gets swept under the rug.
-monotonous sexy times
-Way too many TMI moments-I don't need to hear about leg shaving, going to the bathroom, doggy poo bags, etc. And if I had to read about the frigging dog needing to go out and "do its business" one more time, I was going to start slamming my head against the wall!
-life mates....*vomit*

Only reason I finished this was because I paid $7.59 for it. $7.59?!?!? for this humongous, steaming pile of crap! I'm so mad at myself right now... :/

Totally awesome! I was grabbed from the start and immersed throughout. I loved the characters and their personalities. The spunk, courage, humor, steaminess, suspense, action, some terror, and a great ending. I loved getting to know Anders and his lifemate and couldn't imagine a better fit. This kept moving and had me wanting to know what would happen next and turning pages into the night. Another great book in the series and I'm official deciding this is a definite shelf-space worthy series. I'm BOLO-ing these books! Enjoy!!!

Einfach so toll.

Well, Sands came through just like I knew she would. This is the first paranormal romance of hers I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! It doesn’t hold a candle to her highland romances, but that might be more about my preference for highland than her writing.

Anders and Valerie’s love story was both fun and ridiculous. Sands’ play on the usual vampire story had interesting features and was definitely different than the usual. I have to say, I always appreciate how she has the women save themselves just about as often as the men save them. It’s a nice balance.

The plot of this story played out well- the timing was just right, not too slow or fast. I was never bored but nothing felt rushed. It was pretty easy to predict when something bad was going to happen, but how the characters got out of those situations was unexpected!

And the “life mates shared pleasure” thing was so strange and I loved it. Nice job, Sands!

Maybe more of a 3.5, but I enjoy books where the woman rescues herself. Plus, Valerie is a vet and she has a sweet dog.

Valerie is kidnaped by a rogue vampire, but after realizing the food is drugged she stops eating it and is able to stake one of the vampires, call for help and escape out the window. The Argeneaus clean up the situation and tell Valerie they have taken her to a safe house since the kidnaper escaped. However, they really have taken her to Leigh's and Lucian's house because Anders can't read her.

Anders and Valerie

Two people who would not have met unless Valerie wasn’t strong enough to fight back. Being kidnapped, forced and not understanding what is happening can be stressful but Valerie takes a stand and fights back. Saving not only herself but others.
Anders likes being alone until he helps to finish rescuing Valerie from death. Now all he has to do is make Valerie fall in love with him and become his Lifemate. Of course there are many other things that get in the way but eventually they come to love each other.
Recommend this book.
