Moving around a lot growing up led to a semi-nomadic lifestyle as an adult. I left Massachusetts for Atlanta and Atlanta for Los Angeles, where I currently reside.
I write novels and screenplays of the scifi/action/adventure/urban fantasy genres, adore tv and movies, and am a fangirl at heart.

My Thoughts: I first read and edited an early version of this book for Nancy last year, and then edited another version prior to her deciding to self-publish it. This is a really fun science-fiction tale, full of action, adventure, derring-do, mysterious anomalies, interesting aliens, and just a hint of romance. It is, absolutely, what science-fiction should be about. One of the thing I really like about Griffis’ work, based upon this book and her fascinating book Eternal Investigations, which I read and reviewed last year, is that she puts a lot of threads into her plot, weaving together an intricate and accessible storyline while providing great characterizations and plot twists. If you enjoy a fun science-fiction adventure, this is absolutely the book for you, and I highly recommend it.
Wow, a spaceship/cruise liner on the cover, what a cool concept and an even better story. I was drawn from the beginning and didn’t want to leave. I felt as though I was part of the crew and had a stake in everything. I had flashbacks to The Love Boat and of course Star Trek, thought it might be a combination of the two, it was and it wasn’t.
The key characters were so well developed that it was easy to attach to them and to empathize with each one of them in this never a dull moment vacation into the unknown. The author places you in the middle of each surprising event that occurs and allows you to imagine vividly the surroundings and possible tension or relief. I tried to predict what might happen next and was wrong most of the time.
The best way to describe this book is, I felt I was watching the next generation of space adventure movies or television show and this was the first release or debut on television. I can’t wait to see and hear what happens to these characters next. Wish I could turn on the television and really watch it.
It is a mysterious and potentially dangerous region of the universe. Yet, the galaxies wealthiest pay for the privilege of journeying into this vast expansion of space. This is known as the Fluctuation, where anything can happen. And of course, it does! Disaster strikes and suddenly the only ones left on board are a socialite, an orphaned boy, a snarky robot and really big talking cat. I really enjoyed this motley crew of characters. Each possessed their own distinct personality and were wonderfully three dimensional.
We truly don't know what we are made of or who we truly are until adversity strikes. I loved watching these unlikely heroes persevere and grow until the very end. The books holds much humor, but the reader also shares in their victories and their fears. The story is fast paced and unfolded naturally through the character's actions voice. I really enjoyed the author's writing style, it's sassy, yet poignant when needed. The story flowed with ease and has the necessary bumps in the road to make you want to keep reading.
Fluctuations is at its core a fun space adventure. When a space cruise ship is forced to evacuate in the Fluctuation, a dangerous and unpredictable part of space, four passengers are left behind to fend for themselves: a young stowaway, an heiress lacking direction in her life, a feline alien, and a sarcastic robot. The story is told from all four viewpoints, so the reader really gets to know the characters and how they interact with each other. Each character was unique, and I loved the way they grew together as a group and individually during their voyage. I’m not sure I have a favorite because I ended up liking all of them so much. After reading several of Ms. Griffis’s books, I have to say that characterization is one of her strengths and what makes her books so enjoyable. This one has something for everyone, pirates, space phenomena, family dynamics—and most importantly, friends who come together to help each other. Highly recommended!
