When Memories Fade by Tyora Moody
Victory Gospel Series Book 2

Writing a review for a mystery/whodunit novel is very tricky for me. Trying not to spill the beans of who the villain is or spoil a potential sale for the author is a no-no. So I’ve decided on the K.I.S.S acronym; keep it short and sweet.

Elisa Roberts dreamt of being a singer and enjoyed being a mom, so why would she disappear? Murdered? Kidnapped or gone to pursue her dream in peace? The reader doesn’t find out until close to the end of the book. However you get some interesting nuggets along the way.

As we meet Elisa Roberts’s daughter Angel we learn she is writing a documentary about her mother, but she doesn’t have all the answers. By providence she teams up with a reporter Wes Cade to help fill in some of the blanks.

As I turned the pages I had many questions, and sometimes I found myself holding my breath with anticipation of what was coming next. Of all the questions Angel Roberts has asked her family and friends not one answer brings her closer to finding out what happened to her mother until she begins to follow a path started long ago by a family friend who now suffers with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Readers will enjoy the suspense in book two of the Victory Gospel Series. As I closed the book I had a thought which stayed with me; our brain still holds our memories, we might not always have access to them in the way we are use to, but they are there.

An edge of your sit suspense, complete with twist and turns I never saw coming.

I had the pleasure of reading the first book of the series (ARC-Advanced Readers Copy) and once more, get to read the gallery proof of the Victory Gospel Series, book 2.

Tyora Moody carefully chooses her words that are well calculated and articulated to create a stunning suspense feel to it as soon as you read the first sentence (opening chapter-prologue).

Later, Angel wants to connect the dots of her mother's (Elisa) death and finds her father, Angelino, in the process. Meets a great guy, Wes, a reporter. I wonder if...rooting for this couple. The book takes you a lot further than just finding a missing person from twenty years ago, then a new case of a missing person, both soulful singers. Is there a connection of missing persons?

Darnell and Candace make a cameo appearance in the novel (from book 1). New characters introduced. Medical conditions and mental illnesses shared.

I read the first book by Moody and really liked it; this one didn't grab my attention as much. I got lost at times and confused - could be the story, could be that I'm distracted since I'm recovering from surgery on Wednesday.

Tyora has done it again, another page turner. We return to Charlotte NC and Victory Gospel Church, along with some of the characters we met in When Rain Falls. Now you do not need to have read the first book, to enjoy this one, but you will be missing another great read.
Angel Robert's Mother has been missing now for over twenty years. She wants answers, but how? With much prayer, things start to fall into place, and she meets some people who are willing to help. A childhood friend, now news reported, Wes Cade, is one of them. His Grandfather, a former police detective, Lenny Cade, is in the thrones of Alzheimer, worked this case.
We then have another girl go missing, with the same type of disappearance. Will she never been seen again, or will she wake up a sleeping devil? Are these cases related.
We have a bit of romance, forgiving old friends, mystery, suspense. This one will keep you guessing almost to the end. Just when I thought I knew the answer, nope...I changed my opinion. You will have to keep going to know who wins, if anyone?

I received this book from the Author Tyora Moody, and was not required to give a positive review.

Never Would've Guessed

Angel Roberts was raised by her grandparents. The day of her fifth birthday party, her mother mysteriously disappeared. Twenty years later, the case is still unsolved. Angel wants answers.

Wes Cade is an investigative reporter. He's working on a missing person case when he comes in contact with Angel. They decide to work together. Will their collaboration get them the answers they need?

I was pulled in from the beginning. The new characters mesh well with previous characters. There wasn't any overshadowing. Tyora Moody is a great story teller. You feel like you’re right there with them. This is the second in the series. Even though “When Memories Fade” can be read as a stand-alone book, I encourage reading in order. I highly recommend. This is a great mystery that keeps you guessing.

African-Americans are more likely to die from stroke and succumb to Alzheimer’s disease than Caucasians. Therefore, it is important to become aware of these epidemics. For those who are not fortunate to have medical professionals in their midst, thank God for Tyora Moody. For full review go to http://pwicu.com/2013/02/review-when-...

Title: WHEN MEMORIES FADE
Author: Tyora Moody
Publisher: Urban Books/Kensington
March 2013
ISBN: 978-1601627537
Genre: Contemporary/urban romance/mystery

Angel Roberts has embraced her new faith, but past memories remain fresh. When her beloved grandmother suffers a stroke, Angel sets out to investigate a mystery that has created family tensions and lingered since she was five years old. What happened to her mother?

She teams up with investigative reporter, Wes Cade, a man obsessed with his Alzheimer stricken grandfather's remaining memories. As Angel lets her guard down with Wes, his determination to get the story could push her to the edge. Is his interest in her or the story?

Angel must conquer her fears to find the truth. Unknown to her someone close is working feverishly to stop Angel from unlocking the truth of what really happened to her mother. Who will win?

Angel’s mom vanished when she was five years old. Now her grandmother has suffered a stroke, and Angel is more determined to discover what happened to her mother than ever. Wes’ grandfather worked the case, but now he has Alzheimers. However, the case has remained near to Wes’ grandfather’s heart since Angel’s mom was his friend’s daughter.

When another African American singer goes missing, the scenario seems similar. But the one person who knows the truth will do anything to stop Angel and Wes from finding out.

I enjoyed getting to know Angel and Wes and their search for truth, while juggling caring for family members into their routine. It made for a book fraught with tension of differing kinds, and an interesting read. If you like urban romances, you might consider picking up WHEN MEMORIES FADE. It is book 2 in the Victory Gospel Series, but it easily stands alone. Readers might want to read When Rain Falls to find out another secondary characters story. Discussion questions are included at the end. $14.95. 288 pages. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4

I always hold my breath when I read the second novel from an author whose debut effort I enjoyed. I find myself starting the book praying that it will be just as good as, or better than, the first one. When Memories Fade passed that test with flying colors.

This is the second book in Tyora Moody’s Victory Gospel series, and it held my attention just as well as the first one (When Rain Falls) did. Whenever I read a whodunnit, I do my best to figure out who the villain of the piece is and then why he or she committed the crime. I thought I had it, but Tyora threw me a curve that had me swinging and missing like a member of Charlie Brown’s baseball team.

This book got off to a running start and never slowed down. Angel Roberts wants to solve the twenty year old mystery of her mother’s disappearance while investigative reporter Wes Cade is working a different case- the recent disappearance of a local celebrity. Each of them carries a similar burden- solve a seemingly unsolvable case while dealing with elderly relatives with medical issues. Once they realize their separate cases may have a common thread, they work together.

This was a complex work, yet easy to read. Anyone who has ever had to help care for a sick parent or grandparent will be able to relate to Angel and Wes’ attempts to juggle work and family responsibility. Through these characters, we get to explore such meaningful topics as Alzheimer’s diseases, strokes, home health care and the ups and downs of the music industry from the inside- the author does a good job of providing insights into each of these topics without short-changing any of them.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel (especially since I was completely wrong about whodunnit) and look forward to reading more from this author.

Angel Roberts longs for memories of her mother in When Memories Fade by Tyora Moody. Angel has lived her life with faith and is now determined to investigate the disappearance of her mother. The investigation keeps her mind off being betrayed by her ex-boyfriend.

Angel decides to partner with a reporter who is working a similar case. Angel is always on guard but after meeting Wes Cade, she starts to feel comfortable. In the process of learning about what happened to her mother, Angel must learn to deal with her fears. Will Angel discover the truth?

Wes Cade is an investigative reporter trying to catch his next big story. Wes had a hard time working and helping his mother take care of his grandfather, who suffers from Alzheimer. When Wes teams up with Angel Roberts to investigate her mother’s disappearance, Wes believes it related to the story he is working on. The more Wes and Angel dig into both her mother’s and the missing singer’s disappearances, the more dangerous the investigation gets. Will Wes and Angel finally uncover the mystery? Or realize they have gotten in over their head.

When Memories Fade is about a daughters determination to solve her mother’s cold case. This book has a Christian mystery feel to it with a small hint of drama and romance. The suspense will keep readers on their toes. The characters were well developed, which made the storyline flow consistently. The twists and turns were unsuspected, which made me want to continue reading to find out what would happen next. I definitely recommend When Memories Fade to others.

Angel Roberts, memories are what keeps her going, quite naturally, some memories linger with us, and others begins to fade. Angel Robert’s is determined to find out what happen to her beloved mother, as she had suddenly disappeared without a trace, now for over twenty years. Angel forms her own private investigation about the disappearance of her mother. On her journey she meets and teams up with the delicious investigative reporter, Wes Cade, "a man obsessed with his Alzheimer stricken grandfather’s remaining memories."

"When Memories Fade", by Tyora Moody was a second book in this author's series. Moody captures her reader’s attention from the first page. Her characters are both relate-able and believable. As a strong mystery/suspense lover and author, I was quite impressed with the various social issues (Alzheimer, Stroke Awareness, and Missing People), Tyora highlights, without overwhelming readers with massive amount of information, thus convolution the story of her hero and heroine. One thing is clear and that is Angel and Wes’s faith to still believe. Angel and Wes are determined to hold on to their faith; as they together wade through uncharted waters, their faith would be tested as they fight their own private and public demons, --but will their faith be enough to keep them together?

“When Memories Fade” is Book Two in Moody’s Victory Gospel Series. I read the first book, When Rain Falls, and I found it intriguing. I thought this book was going to continue Candace Johnson’s story, and I was a bit disappointed that it didn’t. Well, it did in a way - Candace is included, but the focus is mainly on Angel Roberts, who was introduced in the first book. She has accomplished a lot at her young age, but there’s one goal she has yet to reach – finding out what happened to her mother, Elisa, who has been missing for years.

What kept me turning the pages wasn’t what happened to Elisa, but the disappearance of Melanie Stowe. Who took her? Why? And would she ever be found? I tried to guess whodunit, but once again Moody’s mystery novel was not predictable. She also wrote about Stroke, Alzheimer’s, Depression and Bipolar Disorder in a way that helps the reader to understand the mental state of those suffering from these illnesses and what family members go through. These parts were informative.

Angel was a likeable character. I was okay with Wes Cade throughout most of the story. He was an intelligent man with a good career and he cared about pleasing the Lord. He irritated me at one point, though, because of a choice he made. He knew better.

This book had me on the edge of my seat. At one point, I thought I'd figured it out and I was really wrong!

Tyora Moody expertly spins the story and makes you want to dig right along with Angel and Wes as they try to solve two mysteries at once. After I read this, I realized that this is part of a series, but this is a complete story in itself and could really stand alone. I'm going to go back and get the other book too, because I'm sure that story is just as good!

I really enjoyed the story. The characters spoke to me. I can't imagine what Angel was going through, but I certainly felt her emotions. She did have a little tendency to overreact sometimes, but she knew that about herself, but at least she knew...

I can't wait to see what's next!

Tyora Moody's Victory Gospel Series is amazing. She focuses on female entrepreneurs; women who work hard for the money. That is just one bonus of the series. When Memories Fade presents more bonuses like real-life dilemmas and predicaments that almost anyone can relate to with the exception of the crime. In this second book of the series, she focuses on a mother-daughter relationship that requires closure of a very complicated kind. Moody also explores extended family relationships from grandparent caregivers to children who are caregivers to their grandparents. I love those dynamics. I also love the characters, including the protagonist and her supporting cast - the good and evil. Like all of her other books, this takes faith on the everyday journey. Wonderful read.

I love mystery books. I was looking for a black author to read. I found this book and liked it a lot. I especially like the religious aspect of the story line. I plan to read more books by this author.

"When Memories Fade" by Tyora Moody was a second book in this author's
series. I found this mystery/suspence novel very well delievered as it deals with life as it has happened toso many African-Americans by way of a 'Stroke and Alzheimer's Disease.' We will find that two of the main characters relatives are going through this. This author did a very wonderful job with bringing these issues into this story. What will be their outcome?

In "When Memories Fade" we find Angel Roberts who is twenty -five, a videographer...owns her own business, lived with her (grams)grandmother) since childhood.... who now has suffered a stroke... and we find Angel was searching for her mother who had been a singer who had mysteriously disappeared some twenty years ago(a cold case) ...was she alive or dead? Angel wanted to find out the answers to her questions because she wanted to do a 'Document on her Mother's Elisas' Life' and bring this all to a close for her. Also what had happened to Angel's father in all of this? As the this story continues onto where there is a 'Investigator Reporter'... Wesley Cade who has a boss at work wanting him to take the lead and find out what has happened to a singer that has just disappeared in there area. WAIT: We have a singer who had disappeared over twenty years ago and has never been found and now their was now another singer who had recently disappeared!...Could there be a coincident? Through much prayer will Angel be able keep her faith high? Just a few of the things that Angel has had to go through...other than being a caretaker for her Grams, dealing with ex boyfriend and ex best friend who were getting married (trying to forgive it all) and trying to solve a case that seemed like there was no answers ....how would she make it out of all of this to be able to believe and trust again? Thank God for a praying friend that Angel had. After Angel tries to touch base with Wesley (Wes) grandfather...but was unable to due to the fact Detective Cade was suffering from Alzheimer's... however, she seeks help from Wes and he gladly does ..and when they when they got together sending prayers to the almighty...life will never be the same for these two. Now, this is where I say you must pick up "When Memories Fade" to find out how the author will lead you through this wonderful well written read. I must say that all of the characters and there were many were all so well developed in capiviting in making "When Memories Fade" one wholesome read that was simply enjoyable and could not put down until the last word...and that ending
leaving you only to say WOW! I loved it!

This is one read that you will not soon forget and would I recommend "When Memories Fade".... my answer would be definitely YES! Well done to the Author: Tyora Moody!

I did not realize that this was book 2 in the series. I read it for my W book in our group's A to Z Challenge. It was a great story, and I wasn't able to figure out who did it until near the end. I am going to make sure I read the other books in the series.
