"The Elves and the Shoemaker" by the Brothers Grimm is retold and illustrated by Paul Galdone. The virtuous and poor shoemaker and his wife are having a tough time making ends meet because no one is buying their shoes. One morning, they wake up to find a beautiful pair of shoes. The next morning, there is another pair. They discover that a pair of elves is working feverishly during the night to make the new shoes. In return, the couple makes fine outfits for the elves. This is a story of friendship and kindness.
Everything a good childrens book needs. A good story and nice illustrations. One thing that puzzled me though. The elves worked on the shoes because they were poor but they didn't get paid for doing it so why did they leave when they finally got clothes? Keeping to read to Adelaide.
