Arresting Communication is a book that is entertaining, funny, realistic, and right on point. It explains the essential principles of interaction while providing the skills necessary for those who wish to succeed in the law enforcment (or any other) profession. Whether in the field of public safety or for those private industry, this book should be a mandatory read; it could save your career and perhaps...your life.
Arresting Communication is one of the best books I've ever read. Lt. Jim Glennon keeps the read interesting and humorous while still getting the teachings across, it's a tough book to put down. I agree with everyone that has said this is a must read for anyone in law enforcement.
I had the honor of meeting Lt. Jim Glennon at a law enforcement training seminar I attended last year. Before the first day was through, I purchased the book and had it signed. The information it contains, will literally change the way you do your job and how you interact with everyone you come in contact with. The book also gives invaluable tips on career longevity, how to interact with suspects, victims and even supervisors.
In the book Jim talks about how communication is constant even when words are not being spoken. Jim gives terms to the actions we observe during encounters that give us that "hunch" or uneasy feeling about people but could never articulate into words what that "hunch" was. Upon reading this book and applying the information you will be able to observe, identify and even call the suspect on what they are doing before things go bad. Now as everyone knows some situations will go bad no matter what the officer does, but this book will give you tools to recognize the warning signs and what the suspect is communicating, verbal or non-verbal, so you can react. Bottom line this book will save lives. Officers and suspects included. This should be required reading for ALL law enforcement.
Buy the book you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend this book it is a must read for not just law enforcement but everyone.,
This is a great book. Well written with practical application. It is one of the books used in the verbal communication section of the Texas Basic Peace Officers Course, and as such all Texas police cadets should read this prior to starting the academy and again in their off time during their field training phase.
