Would have read in one sitting had I had the time. Loved it. Full of meaningful anecdotes that explain how poems came about, what happened after he shared them or how he took poetry further in Washington.
This is unassuming and excellent book chronicles the experiences and discoveries of Washington State's first Poet Laureate. Sam Green spent his official and unofficial years as laureate bearing the Word and words of poetry throughout the state from corner-to-corner, school-to-school, city-to-town-to-village. As a consummate devotee to and teacher of poetry Sam weaves stories of his encounters, flexible lessons, and human contact with excellent and relevant poems (mostly those of other Washington State poets but some several by Sam himself) to demonstrate the value of learning the techniques of poetry relevant to everyone -- whether cook, farmer, logger, historian, friend, lover or other sentient human being.
