"In honor of the tenth year of Solomon, son of David, the beloved of the Lord, king in Jerusalem, I have been commissioned to record the chronicles of those warriors known as the Mighty Men for you, great king. They were the men who came to your father in his hour of need. They were the men who fought with him. They were men, and that is the highest that can be written of them..."
Before he came to David at the caves of Adullam, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a mercenary in Egypt. In the exotic kingdom of the Nile, where Pharaoh is the reflection of the sun and moon, Benaiah will be tested. Peril and heartache are all around him, and to make things worse, he does not yet know the "covering."
A companion piece to the Lion of War series about the wars of King David, "Benaiah" is the first short story in The Hall of the Mighty Men.
Narrated by Jehoshaphat, the historian of King Solomon, this collection of origin tales expands the Lion of War literary universe, and contains epic battles and feats of bravery unable to be included in the novels and upcoming movies.
Thrilling and passionate, The Hall of the Mighty Men is another chapter in the epic Lion of War series that fans will enjoy for years to come.
Another epic adventure from Cliff Graham! A fantasic insight into the character of Benaiah! A must read for any Day of War fan! In the telling of a scribe recording histories of days past for his king is the story of Benaiah as a mercenary. Before Benaiah joins the group of misfit warriors fighting alongside David he was a mercenary for hire under Pharaoh. After leaving behind his wife and two daughters with the promise of returning with an unfathomable amount of gold Benaiah goes off to egypt to fight under Pharaoh for hire, but before being accepted as a warrior he must undergo tests and trials to prove his worth. After fighting off men, leopards and completing an unbelievably extreme obstacle course he is now a warrior under Pharaoh, but he will find after time gold does not keep a man company. So he fights for his pardon to return home to his wife and daughters but finds destruction for his foolishness.
There are few good authors that can truly write about bible times; and imagine what could happened; Cliff is one of them for sure. We need a Spanish version of his books for sure
Fun read! I like Christian Historical Fiction from time to time. I have to remind myself that it is almost completely fiction, just with historical insights from the time period. However, it does help me think of these factual stories that I read in 1 Samuel and the things that surrounded David as he wrote the Psalms in a different light. It doesn't help me interpret Scripture at all, but it does help me hear the echoes of the fuller story that was happening on the ground that the Scriptures don't give us sometimes. I will be reading the others and perhaps even the Day of War series.
This is a good short story. It's a companion to the author's "Lion of War" series. This is my first read of Cliff Graham and I hope to read more in the future. He writes unsanitized biblical fiction about the war era of King David. This is a unique and manly approach to the Christian fiction genre. You can pick these up cheap on Kindle and you're not out much if you don't like it. I have a feeling you will want more though.
Graham has created something very special! Historically accurate and tastefully embellished! These short stories add to the novels. It is just sad to see the marketing greed involved in the organization of these offerings.
I was disappointed it was so short. I enjoyed it but it was never enough to really get into the story. Day of War and Covenant of War told so much more about Benaiah. I know they are short stories, but I guess I didn't realize how short!
