Weird Girls #0.5

The Weird Girls

Rate this book
Celia Wird and her three sisters are just like other 20-something girls—with one tiny exception: they're products of a backfired curse that has given each of them unique powers that make them, well, a little weird…

The Wird sisters are different from every race on earth—human and supernatural. When human society is no longer an option for them, they move in among the resident vampires, werebeasts, and witches of the Lake Tahoe region. Could this be the true home they’ve longed for? Um, not quite. After the sisters accidentally strip a witch of her powers in a bar brawl, they soon realize the mistake will cost them. Because to take on a witch means to take on her coven. And losing the battle isn’t an option.

Includes a preview of the first full-length novel in the Weird Girls series, Sealed with a Curse—as well as introductions to the Weird World, and a letter from the author.

LOVED IT! So excited about this new and exciting series from Cecy Robson! This novella did not disappoint and I can't wait to read more about the Weird Girls.

Full review to come...

I knew I was going to love this. I knew, even before finishing the first chapter, that this novella from the quirky and charming Cecy Robson was going to be unique and witty.

The Wird sisters consist of four very different women. Celia is the "lead" sister. I say lead because not only is this series told from her point of view, but she has the cold calculating demeanor of a tiger. Oh wait, she can totally turn into one and I wouldn't mess with her if my life depended on it! Shayna and Taran are both sassy in different ways and quite entertaining. Emme is quiet and gentle but I can't wait to see what she might be hiding! All wielding a different power and pretty awesome on their own, when they join forces they make one hell of a team. The paranormal world is getting a brand new spin as we learn why they have powers and from what entities they may encounter.

The world building was fantastic. For a novella, we aren't bogged down with too much information. We get just enough mixed in with the fantastic plot to keep you turning the page eagerly in anticipation of what's to come. The plot was fun. Starting out in a bar, only craziness can ensue and craziness it is! We are thrown into a world of witch craft and challenges as Celia, Shayna, Taran and Emme fight for their right to peace in the mystical place that is Lake Tahoe.

Some very dramatic things happen to Celia when she faces certain challenges making your heart stop, tears threaten to spill or laugh hysterically with everything that is going on.

I don't want to say too much about the plot! I don't want to spoil anything but definitely give this series a try! Not only is the world Cecy created unique, but the humor is fantastic and Cecy is just all kinds of awesome! She really is a sweet person and I'm so glad to have gotten the chance to know her on the internets and to read her work. I am a fan for life now and I CANNOT WAIT to read Sealed With A Curse! If this novella knocked my socks off, the first full length in the series is bound to kick major ass!

“Mark my words, Ms. Robson will make her name known in no time with this
great UF series.” ~Under the Covers

The Weird Girls is an amazing prequel to a new series. This new and upcoming author knows how to deliver suspense, humor, action and it’s a surprise that she is just coming out with a novella/novel now. Mark my words, Ms. Robson will make her name known in no time with this
great UF series.

Celia, Taran, Shayna and Emme Wird’s parents were cursed and the end results are four children with very special powers. Not necessarily fitting into a specific faction; not just humans, not quiet witches, nor vamps or wolves, the Wird sisters did not have it easy growing up.
They were never the in crowd and even now as adults, the mean girls still treated them as outcasts. But the sisters are tired of it all and had found a life in a serene town of Lake Tahoe. And they will do anything and everything to protect the lives they had come to enjoy even if it means battling a coven of witches. I’m afraid to give too much but bottom line is these girls are down to earth, funny as hell, protect each other and totally kick ass heroines.

Ms. Robson is a new author to watch out for! Her writing is superb and she kept the book flowing with intrigue from the heartfelt Dear Reader until the end of this short story. I can’t tell you enough how excited I am with this series. These sisters are one to keep an eye out for in the Urban Fantasy genre.

If you like Amanda Carlson’s Full Blooded, Kendra Leigh Castle’s Dark Dynasty series and Cassie Alexander’s Edie Spence Series, you will love this The Weird Girls.❤ ♡ Don't want to miss any of our posts? Subscribe to our blog by email! ♡ ❤

Prequel novella for new series.

The action junkie is happy! It starts with a fight in the girls room of a bar and keeps going until the end. I like the shapeshifting Celia a lot. She is strong, but her strength sets her apart from everyone else, making her lonely too. She is fiercely protective of her sisters and I love that aspect. A lot of books have relationships between men and women, but not as many positive relationships between women. While they may not always agree, these girls love each other and have each others backs. Taran the hot head, Shayna the bubbly one, and Emme the sweet, they all also have powers that make these sisters a force to be reckoned with.

I also was very happy to see the action take place in Lake Tahoe. I've visited this area many times and have always enjoyed it, so that's an extra plus for me.

I'm not going to go into a lot of detail on the story - I don't want to spoil anything. You do get a taste of the other supernaturals in the Wird's new home, and you get to see the girls' powers in action. There isn't any romance, but there is a hint at something that might appear in the future. I can't wait to read book 1!

The Wird Sisters; Emma, Shayna, Taran, and Celia, have been traveling the states as visiting nurses and after discovering the beauty of the Lake Tahoe area have decided to make it their more permanent home. As they celebrate at a local club, the plans to have a few drinks and maybe even a few dances with the table full of cute guys nearby is blown out of the water when they’re attacked by a witch bent on destruction. Actually, destruction might be a mild way to describe it, considering it involves flinging lightning and a horde of rats. It’s definitely an original way to clear a dance floor. At first, Celia is livid when she finds out Taran started the fight, but soon cools when she finds out that Taran was defending the timid Emme. They’ve been taunted and teased all of their lives, since their parents were killed when Celia was only 9 (and the oldest.) Their wicked aunt cast a spell on their mom for marrying outside her race, and not only did it shorten their parents’ lives, it backfired, and instead of making the girls sickly and frail, as was intended, it made them very, very special, unlike any others on Earth. So much for the Wird sisters settling down and getting their bearings! They’ve ticked off a witch, so now they’ll have her entire coven on their backs. There’s to be a duel: three days, three challenges, and she doubts these witches will play fair. Is Celia up to the challenge? If she’s not, so much for settling down in lovely Lake Tahoe…

This introduction to Cecy Robson’s new series was just plain fun and gives a really good introduction to the girls’ powers, collectively and individually, with a focus on Celia, and as “head of the family”, she’s had to take care of her sisters since their parents died, and is a very strong narrative voice. She’s funny too, and is a good balance of strength and easy humor. The Wird girls don’t fit any one definition of supernatural. They each have varying powers and varying personalities. Celia is a labor and delivery nurse (each of the girls are nurses in different disciplines), and she’s constantly warring with her nurturing side and her more…animal side, and in spite of her strength, is very self-conscious about her otherness, although she will defend her sisters, and herself, tooth and nail…and then some. This was a strong introduction to what promises to be a great urban fantasy series. I’m getting hard to please when it comes to urban fantasy lately, but this hit all the write notes for me.

Wow and I thought I had a strange family! I have to say The Wird Girls was for me a little hard to get in because I had a little bit of a problem keeping the sisters separated. But when it started to flow a little better and I learned to keep the girls separated. I was Hooked!

This Novella The Wird Girls is a great introduction to Cecy Robson’s new Weird Girls Series. You get a good introduction to the Wird Sisters; Celia, Shayna, Taran, and Emma. Their realistic characters, powers, collectively and individually. The main focus is on the sister named Celia, she is acting as “head of the family”. The Wird Girls is written strong, with a lot of fun moments and great world buidling.

I specially noticed how many time and effort Cecy has put in this Novella/Series. Cecy has made each girl as a induvidual, each sister has her own kind of powers personality. Even how short this novella is, it gives you a good idea of the The Wird Girls World, their character and powers . I think this is going to be a great urban fantasy series.

Loved this novella! It's an all around fabulous read. Celia and her sisters are characters you will instantly fall in love with. The Weird Girls novella is full of laugh out loud humor and moments that touch your heart (if a book can touch me enough to make me cry on the characters' behalf, it's a keeper, and this novella did just that!). Great plot twists, a narrative voice that will keep you completely intrigued, and an excellent story arc. Can't wait to read Sealed with a Curse!

The characters are cool and entertaining, and the story is fast and well written. There's a lot of action combined with a good sense of emotion. Also, the first chapter of the full series is included - and it's really great. So check it out. You won't be disappointed.

The plot of this novella is straightforward – four sisters with unusual (understatement) abilities are in the midst of settling into their new Lake Tahoe home when, on a night out to celebrate, one of the sisters, Taran, to be exact, pisses off a witch. And then all hell breaks lose. This is a wonderfully imaginative, action packed story that sets up what looks to be a great new urban fantasy series by debut author, Cecy Robson.

From the start, what I loved about this story was its tone. The Weird Girls has a wonderful balance of light and dark. One minute there is a pop culture reference to Beyoncé, snarky comments that make you laugh, and a lighthearted feel to the close bonds shared by these four unique sisters. The next minute there is a sense of violence and tragedy that haunts the Wird sisters and that hints at a dark past. Celia, the oldest, spends the story facing violent trials to the death in an effort to protect her sisters from a crazed witch. And when I say violent, I mean the bloody kind; the kind that shows Celia will do anything to protect those she cares about. I liked this dichotomy, this idea that while these women try to live out their lives as normally as possible, there is nothing they can do to keep the supernatural world, and all of its inherent violence, out of their lives. It also proves that they can rise to the challenge and protect their own. Amid the lighthearted feeling of sisterhood, Robson doesn’t shy away from the dark and the unsettling. She can crack a joke that makes you smile and on the next page write something that totally switches the mood and makes you wonder how Celia is going to survive the next fight.

This is also a very imaginative world. The sisters each have unique abilities that set them apart from humans. I also think it sets them apart from other supernaturals but we really only meet witches in this novella. And what absolutely fear inducing witches these are! For me, witches tend to be the least interesting supernaturals in the fantasy world. Kudos to Robson for creating witches that are powerful, clever in their sense of violence, and who also make me step back and think they’re a real force to be reckoned with. We know that vampires and shifters also exist but the Wird girls know very little about this world since they’ve done their best to keep out of it. I think this is a great setup. I assume we’ll learn more about the supernatural alongside the sisters as they struggle to adapt to new rules and relationships.

Speaking of relationships…there is a hint of a romance that is just fantastic. A mystery man that haunts Celia’s dreams…I’m dying to know where that storyline is going to take us.

Robson writes with a sense of exuberance. I feel like she had as much fun writing The Weird Girls as I had reading it. I can’t wait to see what happens next to these sisters. Something tells me it’s going to be a wild ride.

The Weird Girls is the prequel novella of the new series Weird Girls by Cecy Robson.

The Wird sisters (Celia, Emma, Shayna and Taran) are not your normal neighborhood girls; they are the offspring of a cursed couple. Their mother was cursed by her own sister for marrying outside their race. This curse not only made their parents died young but also gave the girls supernatural powers; that wasn’t their aunt intention, it was more the result of the curse going wrong.

Having special powers haven’t made their lives easier, for the contrary it has made their existence a very complicated one because they don’t fit in anywhere.

After living in many different places they come to Lake Tahoe and fall in love with the region. They decide to buy a house and call the area their new home. They hope to finally be able to settle down and live happy and calm lives, but their plans get a bit tangled when during their celebratory night not knowing they get involve in a bar fight with a witch, and when you fight with a witch, you fight with the whole coven.

If they want to be able to stay in the area they need to solve the problem with the very unhappy coven, a coven lead by a very wicked witch that only wants blood.

Celia is the head of the family and the voice in the books, this doesn’t mean we don’t get to see the other sisters because we do, they all have an important part in the story. Mrs. Robson gave them all very different characteristics making them easier to identify.
As I said before Celia is the head of the family, she is the oldest and also the strongest of the sisters, she is a shifter that turns into a Golden Tigress. She has a dark sense of humor that I think she uses as a defense mechanism to protect her soft side, even having her sisters she feels a bit alone because her “nature” make people afraid of her.
Taran is the one that controls fire and lightning and as her power her temperament goes along with the flames.
Emme is the soft and shy one of the sisters; she has the power of telekinesis and can heal people, she also has a very nurturing personality.
And last but not least is Shayna, she is a blade master and can manipulate metals, she is a bit of a tomboy, talks like a surfer and says “dude” a lot.

The Weird Girls was everything a novella should have and more; I can even go as far as to say it reads almost as a full-length novel. Page after page it’s packed with non-stop action, a lot of conflicts and well-developed characters. The Weird Girls is fast paced read, one I can guarantee you you won’t be able to put down.

The Weird Girls is a great introduction to a new series, one that will leave you wanting for more, luckily we won’t have to wait for long, the first book in the series, Sealed with a Curse, will be release in December 31st.
I’m looking forward to read more about the Wird Sisters, I’m sure in the Weird Girls I have found a new favorite series.

I recommend this novella to all urban fantasy lovers.

The Weird Girls – A Novella is an introduction to Cecy Robson’s new upcoming Weird Girls series. As prequels go, this one really did a good job introducing us to the main characters and to the gist of the series.

The series revolves around Celia and her three sisters, all of whom have some special abilities. They were victims of a curse-gone-wrong when they were younger and now are dealing with the consequences. Each girl has her own ability that is completely different from anyone else’s. For example, one sister is a shifter or sorts and another is telekinetic of sorts. I say ‘of sorts’ because each sister has more than one ability and they are all a bit different than your ‘norm’ would be.

It took me a few times of hearing the sister’s name for me to remember who was who and what each did but once I got it, it was almost obvious. Cecy does a good job giving each girl a different way of speaking and different mannerisms. We have Celia, Shayna, Taran and Emma. I can’t say I completely understand their powers yet but really, I can’t expect to seeing that this is just a glimpse into the world that will be expanded on in the full book. But I can tell you that after reading this I was ready to read a whole book about each of the sisters. But that is not how this series will roll as the books will all be told from Celia’s pov. Not a bad thing as I really enjoyed her. Strong yet vulnerable, an important combination for me to be able to relate to and to enjoy an urban fantasy protagonist.

The story started right away. I’m talking about action in the first few pages. I almost felt as though it was too abrupt for me since this is a new world with new characters – I almost needed a bit of a lead in. That being said, once I adjusted to what was happening (it only took a few pages) I followed along for the ride…and what a ride it was! Holy jumpin’ this book is non-stop! (The witches! What the hell is up with the witches?! What is their problem?!) Once you’re in, this story sucks you in deeper and deeper until you are spat out at the end. But it’s not all heavy. It’s not fluff either but there is some humor thrown in here and there to break up the heavy. Because let me tell you, this book has some pretty gory scenes which shows that even though she has a fun and snarky sense of humor, Cecy isn’t afraid to go dark when it fits the story.

When I finished this novella, I wanted to know more about the world. I wanted to know more about the girls and I wanted to know more about their abilities. I just wanted more. The Weird Girls – A Novella did exactly what a prequel is meant to do. It tweaked my interest and made me look forward to December 31st – the day Sealed with a Curse, the first full-length book in the series, is due out. Cecy has a beautiful writing voice and I’m anxious to see where she takes us next.

Mon avis en Français

My English review

I was so impatient to discover the Cecy Robson’s books since I found the summary of her first novel on a blog. And this novella is perfect for that; it introduces us to the story of the four sisters Wird. Yes, it’s true, there are four main characters here. I don't think I ever read a book with so many characters except the sisters of the moon and I confess that I wondered how the author would manage to feature them all. I think it is a big challenge to juggle with so many protagonists in the same novel.

We follow in this story the point of view of one of the four sisters: Celia Wird. I must say that I had a little trouble at the beginning of the story to really understand what was happening as webdirectly fall into the action. But as we progress, we become very intrigued by all the ideas Cecy introduces us. These four sisters are uncommon and it’s difficult for them to find their place in the world. But it is quite understandable when you consider that each of them is unique and doesn’t belong to any class of magical creatures. They therefore have nobody to turn themselves to. This is something difficult to live but it is also what has consolidated their family ties. Celia and her sisters find themselves very quickly in trouble in this book. Indeed, with a little dispute, they manage to make a convent of witches angry and the only way to get out of this problem is to confront the witch who leads them. So here we have a lot of action throughout the story and we therefore remain intrigued throughout the chapters.

I enjoyed this story and it is true that it really makes you want to know more. There are many mysteries that we want to understand to know more about this family so different from others. Besides, the first chapter at the end of the story completely intrigues us. This is an introduction to an urban fantasy series that I'm sure will be fantastic! How can not it be? Sisters, a curse, powers and many magical creatures. I'll wait eagerly to learn more and immerse myself in the first volume.

Even though The Weird Girls is book 0.5 in The Weird Girls series, it is more of a flashback following book 1. Without the background information given in Book 1, Sealed with a Curse, it would be more difficult to appreciate the characters and keep them straight during the fast moving action. I recommend reading Sealed with a Curse first.

That said, The Weird Girls is a very fast paced PNR action-adventure series with a snarky super heroine who still has enough vulnerability to be likable. Celia Wird and her three sisters each have a different paranormal ability they received as the result of a curse placed on their mother before they were born. They are not part of a preternatural race, but they don't really fit in with humans, either. Celia can change into a tiger and shift to different locations. Taryn can generate fire and harness electricity from the environment. Shayna can instantly reshape things in the environment into sharp weapons, and Emme is a magical healer.

When Shayna exchanges insults with a witch at a night club, it sparks a war between the Weird Girls and the entire coven. Celia must figure out how to keep them alive when they have no experience with witches, no rule book, and no way to know what to expect next. The plot takes off immediately and never stops. I recommend the ride.

This is a "clean" PNR story with no sex beyond kissing. Nudity is shape-shifting related and not erotic. There is graphic violence that is essential to the story.

I like these preview novellas, they give great insight into what the next books are going to be like. There are a cheap and easy way for prospective readers to try out characters before a series really starts. And in my experience with preview novellas, they have never let me down and always gets me super psyched about the upcoming books, and this novella was no different.

The pacing in the novella was really good, and full of action. Celia was a likable character for me, she is beyond ready to do anything to protect her family. And she has the inner "beast" to back it up too. If I had to have one complaint about the entire thing it would be the intro scene at the bar, the bar brawl that starts it off, the action happens so quickly that sometimes I had to re-read a couple of sentences to make sure I got what was going on. But at the same time the scene was so chaotic that it makes sense that it would be a little chaotic for the reader too.

I like the trials that Celia had to go through, they were insane, and I was sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. I don't want to really tell you about the trials because not knowing what they were up front made it all the more suspenseful.

I do have to say that I really hope one of the witches from the coven makes it into the next book, I would love to see if there ends up being a relationship between Celia and her family and that of the coven.

Overall, I think the book was really a fun read, one I totally enjoyed and I can't wait to read the next book in the series. The next book out is Sealed with a Curse so look for it to come soon! And in the meantime you should really check out this novella!

This novella, Weird Girls is completely action packed. It has 4 sisters whom are nurses that were cursed upon birth. Each sister has different powers but they just really yearn to be NORMAL. Will that happen anytime soon, ahhh, NO!!

The novella is told in the POV of the oldest, most protective sister, Celia. Her ability allows her to shift into a tigress, which I love! Most weres or shifters are usually wolves, a tigress sounds like much more fun! :-P She's a total badass, partly because of her tigress and partly because she will let nothing happen to her family.

The Wird sisters piss off a witch, which begins the action. It just goes downhill from there for Celia. In an act to defend her sisters she must best the covens leader, Larissa. Celia is put to the test in several different ways, in ways that she thought would destroy her.

I'm anxious to hear more about this mysterious man that was in Celia's dream, as well as learn more about the sisters. This was just a taste of what is yet to come and what is sure to be a great new action packed urban fantasy series. I can't wait to hear what other craziness these 4 sisters will find themselves in.

I really enjoyed this read! The challenges and conflicts surrounding the sisters with the witches were original and at times a little twisted (in a good way). I also enjoyed the dialog and humor and the ability for the author to turn things dark. This was a very fast-paced story and I was thoroughly entertained all along the way.
The sisters are each unique and interesting and they all seem to have some cool abilities. Celia tells the story from her perspective and is funny, and tough, and loyal to her family. I was shocked at just how good this novella was, because lets face it most of these introductory novellas read like a long prologue.
If you want a taste of a new series and a fun story that sucks you into the middle of it and doesn't let you go, try this one. In fact, I think I can safely say that I haven't read another prequel novella this fun, maybe ever.

The night the Wird sisters decide to celebrate finding a nice place to settle within the Lake Tahoe region, they get caught in a fight with a crazy bitch--ah, I mean witch--who viciously attacks them before setting her coven against the Wird girls.

I really enjoyed the introduction to the four Wird sisters, and can see a lot of magical trouble waiting on the horizon.

I'm really glad I've got the first book on pre-order. :)

The four sisters are celebrating finally finding a place to call home since leaving New Jersey two years ago. Such a place found in Lake Tahoe. Somehow trouble and men find the girls, yet Celia is feared at a glance as human's realize instinctively there's a predator inside, with fighting and upsetting one witch by breaking her power talisman. After a phone call Celia makes to her paranormal expert friend, she learns with one witch comes a whole coven, now with their eyes out waiting for them to show in the new home area they thought would be safe. When the witches come, Celia makes a claim and fights for her sisters against the leader of the coven. Celia will have three challenges to face for her and her sisters to stay safe in their home. As long as Celia can win, but at what costs?

We learn what each girl's abilities are, as a result of a backfired curse on their mother. Boy do we learn about these four ladies! The history details here with each and their parents, and their abilities. I wonder how much of this will come to surface again in the first novel. That the world, knowing or unknowingly senses it, doesn't accept weird and Celia, Taran, Shayna, and Emme are just that. Weird. Something that doesn't exist even in the supernatural world of vampires, werewolves, and witches. Great setting of the characters here.

Right off the bat we start with a fight with a witch. We see weaknesses in each girl, but they can work together to win. As the story goes we see the strengths as well, and that they avoid the supernatural world as much as they can. These four sister stick together and stand up for each other, protect and fight for each other. They are all they have. We learn how they suffered and fought through school and how people, magical or not, sense they are different and fight or torment them, or at least try too.

This novella sets the stage for these ladies as a whole and individually. They come out kicking and swinging.

This novella is from Celia's point of view. Celia is the eldest and is the one that goes through an ordeal with the three challenges to try and save her sisters. There are quick sarcastic snarky remarks through the read. It gives a feel of Celia's personality, strong and has a sense of humor that's dry and could be negative but I like this humor. Celia's not all roses, she does have a tigeress inside after all, and I like that about her. Being that they stay out of the supernatural world as much as possible, they don't know what to expect or do with the three challenges. These ladies might be a product of the magical world, but they avoid it or at least try to.

There are hints of things here that I do hope and look forward to learning more about. Like Celia and her dream man. Sounds like there is more there than she or I know. I would like to learn more! There are things hinted at with each lady that I'd like to see more about.

Veeeery good novella to give you a feel of these weird ladies, where they came from and what they are capable of. I do look forward to seeing more of this in the novels to come.

To sum it up: unique story and characters, well written and action packed. If you like UF, read it.

What makes the Weird Girls so weird is that they can't be categorized--they are not witches, weres, or fire-breathers; they aren't knife-throwers. They certainly aren't gypsies. They're the product of leftover curse mojo and they're just looking for a little normalcy.

As traveling nurses, the sisters have seen a lot of America, but when they see the Lake Tahoe area, they fall in love. They buy a cozy, fixer-upper. In celebration, they go out for drinks. Unfortunately, their celebration is ruined when a witch with a nasty attitude chooses to pick on one of the sisters. A showdown results that quickly escalates to all out war: the Weird Girls VS Lake Tahoe's witch coven. Well, it's really more like Celia VS the head witch as she declares a direct challenge to keep her sisters safe. But the consequence of this sacrifice is a series of deadly trials that can (and do) bleed into her every day life at any moment and threaten her heart, her psyche and her life.

There are little things I questioned that have no bearing on the story or writing: things like how traveling nurses would manage to transfer together every time (I don't know a thing about traveling nurses); or if Celia invokes the Ninth Law, what are the other 8? Are there another 8? I would have asked this as her character, but let me say this: if those are the only things I can pick at, this is a damn good read.

What Robson does with this is story is unique. You have a close knit family of sisters who can't be pigeonholed, and who are each distinct, interesting and lovable in their own right. The Weird Girls novella is a mix of fast-paced writing rife with spot on details and killer action in which Robson deftly juggles smart-ass, witty characters and a sensible amount of addressing her readers' pathos (in one way or another). I'm struck by how many chords she manages to hit. She speaks to anyone who's ever been different and had to fight because of it; to anyone who's ever known what it feels like to love someone more than anything and need to protect them; to anyone who's ever felt like they were on the outside. To anyone a little weird. And she does it in a package that's ridiculously fun to read. And one of my favorite parts? The lack of male energy in the book. I have no doubt that Robson can write great chemistry between her characters and sexy, male characters. But that had nothing to do with this introduction and as I feel like that's a pretty big staple in UF (girl must work such and such out with hottie alpha--which I enjoy and do myself in certain ways, but it has its place), Robson has stood out for that alone. She's made a fan out of me.

It did everything a prequel should do: made me want more. And I'm lucky enough to be privy to the wonderful gift of reading the first book of the series Sealed With a Curse.

Being weird was never this dangerous!

In Cecy Robson's debut novel we're introduced to the Wird sisters, four young women with individual supernatural abilities bestowed upon them in the form of a curse. After trying and failing to blend into society, they venture to Lake Tahoe, where supernaturals are the region's main residents. The Wird sisters love to have a good time and soon one highly anticipated night out on the town turns into a supernatural battle when the sisters get into a scuffle with witches who threaten their chance at a fresh start and new home.

The Weird Girls is a fantastic introduction to the Wird sister's world. The story takes off into an action packed thrill ride from the first few pages and never stops. The characters are well developed for a novella and the world building is creative. The story is told by the POV of the oldest Wird sister, Celia, who is quite a character.

Celia, along with the other sisters has a great sense of humor and kicks major butt. I love that she's willing to sacrifice herself to save her sisters and will stop at nothing to protect them, she's pretty much the main character in this story and easy to connect with. She's a fighter, smart and always has a witty comeback that keeps you entertained. The author does a phenomenal job of showcasing each sister's personality and conveying the emotional relationship between them without losing veering from the plot.

Just when you think the story is headed down a road, Cecy manages to shock you with some heart stopping twists and turns! The greatest element for me in The Weird Girls is the lack of a male lead, the all female cast is inventive and works beautifully in this story. That being said, I'm sure she'll have some swoon-worthy alphas in her next book. If you're looking for a unique blend of the supernatural, magic, humor and girl power...look no further, the Wird sisters deliver!

“Mark my words, Ms. Robson will make her name known with this
great UF series.” ~Under the Covers

If you like Amanda Carlson’s Full Blooded, Kendra Leigh Castle’s Dark Dynasty series and Cassie Alexander’s Edie Spence Series, you will love this The Weird Girls.

I love it when I find another really good series and The Weird Girls is definitely going to be a good supernatural series. This is a fairly short novella to introduce Celia, Taran, Shayna, and Emme and to establish them as fun, unique characters. It gives the reader a nice glimpse of what is to come once the sisters have settled into their new Lake Tahoe home.

Each sister has her own distinct personality and unique power. Ms. Robson created a tight bond with the sisters. They are extremely loyal to one another. They are all they that have and will protect their family at all costs. I really loved the loyalty among the sisters. It is a very powerful bond which, I bet, we will see later on in the series.

In this novella, Celia is the narrator and the true protector of the sisters. Her inner beast is incredibly powerful and, I believe, she has a love/hate relationship that beast. She knows she was given her power for a reason and that is to protect. However, at the same time, it has given her a very lonely life. It will be interesting on who will be brave enough to handle a relationship with her and I'm sure we will about to find out in later books.

I found Weird Girls to be a very fun beginning for the Wird sisters. It's fast-paced and will not leave you bored. You will definitely want to start reading the next book which is Sealed with a Curse. Make sure you have it already before you finish The Weird Girls because you will want to know what happens next!

The Wird sisters, Celia, Taran, Shayna, and Emme are nurses who have been cursed with a little something extra. After being sent to Lake Tahoe as visiting nurses, the girls decide to settle down and purchase a house. During a night out, the girls get embroiled in a confrontation with the local coven. Determined to protect her sisters, Celia invokes the Ninth Law and must fight the leader of the coven on her own. If she wins, the girls will be able stay in Lake Tahoe but this fight might not stop until they're dead.

Each sister has unique paranormal abilities that range from shifting, control of lightening, telekinesis and healing, and metal manipulation. The girls want to live a quite life but if threatened become a united front to protect each other. Celia is the oldest sister and the voice of the series (so far anyway).

The Weird Girls is a quick read but it’s chock full of action and humor. The story sucks you right in and before you know it, it's over leaving you wondering what's going to happen next to this extraordinary family. The Weird Girls is a terrific introductory novella to Cecy Robson's Weird Girls. I can't wait to find out more Celia and the rest of the girls. Fortunately, Sealed With A Curse, Book #1 was released on December 31, 2012.

This was a great introduction to the new series and I can't wait for Cecy Robson's debut novel to be released! I love the sisters, they are so different from each other but so close and tight-knit. They'd do anything for each other and just want a home of their own where they can settle in and not have to keep moving. In this novella they take a stand for just that! The novella is written from the perspsctive of the oldest sister Celia, who is very protective of her sisters and challenges the head of the coven to spare her sisters from having to fight and possibly dying, the novella covers the three challenges she has to pass in order to win against the coven and allow her and her sisters to settle in Lake Tahoe in peace! I loved the writing style of the story and how the sisters interacted! They argued like siblings do but ultimatel stick together and look out for each other! I had some chuckles at them as well! I have a feelings I'm going to really enjoy this series!

I finished this around midnight, so it was too late to leave a review for this sleepy old lady. Again, I really liked Celia and the girls. They've now landed in Tahoe after spending a few years traveling across country as traveling nurses, looking for a home to land in. They love Tahoe, but shortly after closing on a house and going out to celebrate, trouble finds them once again in the form of a too-big-for-her-britches witch.

I really relate to Celia, being the oldest of four. She takes on the challenge of defending her family singlehandedly, and while doing so, you get a deeper sense of why she feels that need to protect and it breaks your heart. I really hope there is a man out there for Celia - she so deserves one of her own.

My only pet peeve, and again this is publisher related, is that I thought it was overpriced for the page length.

This was so much longer than I was expecting and it was good. I mean, REALLY good. It was almost as good as the actual book, itself. haha. I am getting a little out of line here. I loved how we got to know each of the girls and I love how we really got to know all of Celia's fears, emotions, and what is really important to her. It helped solidify her as a strong character in my mind. Plus she was, you know, TOTALLY BADASS in this novella. I loved every moment. Even the harsh ones. It was so GOOD. D:
