本書是村上春樹自選文集,文章寫作時間在1979至2010年期間,包括未發表過的小說和未曾收錄的感言、演說稿、自序代序與評論等,分十部分(序文.解說等、致詞.感言等、 關於音樂、 關於「地下鐵事件」、翻譯.被翻譯、關於人物、眼見的東西 心想的事情、問與答、短篇小說《夜之蜘蛛猴》餘稿、寫小說這回事)共69篇文章,另外加上〈前言--理不清的繁雜心境〉和〈解說對談 安西水丸x 和田誠〉。

特別的是,村上春樹並在每篇文章前面加上小文解說自己當初撰文的心情札記。列如2009年2月前往耶路撒冷領取文學獎時,得獎感言〈牆與蛋〉,道出個人應有的道德勇氣和對體制霸權的深刻反省;當時村上春樹就在以色列總統佩雷斯面前,公開批評以色列軍事行動,隨即被國際媒體競相轉載。

以作家出道三十多年來,由於各種目的,為各種場合所寫,卻未曾以單行本發表過的文章,彙集在這裡。從隨筆、為各種人的書所寫的序.解說、回答疑問、各種致詞、到短篇小說,結構真的只能說「又多又雜」。也有相當多未發表過的東西。雖然也可以取個比較普通的書名,但和編輯聯絡時一直都以「雜文集」稱呼,所以說「乾脆就用這當書名不好嗎?」決定用「村上春樹 雜文集」當書名。因為是拉拉雜雜的東西,就保持雜多的樣子也好。

Haruki Murakami (村上春樹) is a Japanese writer. His novels, essays, and short stories have been best-sellers in Japan and internationally, with his work translated into 50 languages and having sold millions of copies outside Japan. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Gunzo Prize for New Writers, the World Fantasy Award, the Tanizaki Prize, Yomiuri Prize for Literature, the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award, the Noma Literary Prize, the Franz Kafka Prize, the Kiriyama Prize for Fiction, the Goodreads Choice Awards for Best Fiction, the Jerusalem Prize, and the Princess of Asturias Awards.
Growing up in Ashiya, near Kobe before moving to Tokyo to attend Waseda University, he published his first novel Hear the Wind Sing (1979) after working as the owner of a small jazz bar for seven years. His notable works include the novels Norwegian Wood (1987), The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle (1994–95), Kafka on the Shore (2002) and 1Q84 (2009–10); the last was ranked as the best work of Japan's Heisei era (1989–2019) by the national newspaper Asahi Shimbun's survey of literary experts. His work spans genres including science fiction, fantasy, and crime fiction, and has become known for his use of magical realist elements. His official website cites Raymond Chandler, Kurt Vonnegut and Richard Brautigan as key inspirations to his work, while Murakami himself has named Kazuo Ishiguro, Cormac McCarthy and Dag Solstad as his favourite currently active writers. Murakami has also published five short story collections, including First Person Singular (2020), and non-fiction works including Underground (1997), an oral history of the Tokyo subway sarin attack, and What I Talk About When I Talk About Running (2007), a memoir about his experience as a long distance runner.
His fiction has polarized literary critics and the reading public. He has sometimes been criticised by Japan's literary establishment as un-Japanese, leading to Murakami's recalling that he was a "black sheep in the Japanese literary world". Meanwhile, Murakami has been described by Gary Fisketjon, the editor of Murakami's collection The Elephant Vanishes (1993), as a "truly extraordinary writer", while Steven Poole of The Guardian praised Murakami as "among the world's greatest living novelists" for his oeuvre.

English title: Haruki Murakami's miscellaneous text collection

Just like the title says, this is a rather big text collection written by Haruki Murakami over years. The texts vary a lot from its length, theme and even the writing style. In the introduction of this collection, Murakami says that he is also embarassed to read some of his older texts (when I remember it correctly, paraphrasing obviously). Since I'm a fan of Murakami, it was great to read through the collection even if I didn't like all of them.

There are notes from his speeches, essays for music magazines, or even just memos about just everything. Many are very mundane but then, he surprises with his deep philosophical view of literature and writing, here and there. For fans of Murakami, this is definitely a must read. But if you are now really into Murakami, not really recommendable. Also, I can't really imagine this book to be translated well into English.
Plus points for the book design, haptic and the book cover.

"내가 소설을 쓰는 이유를 요약하자면 단 한 가지입니다. 개인이 지닌 영혼의 존엄을 부각시키고 거기에 빛을 비추기 위함입니다. 우리 영혼이 시스템에 얽매여 멸시당하지 않도록 늘 빛을 비추고 경종을 울리자, 이것이 바로 이야기의 역할입니다. 나는 그렇게 믿습니다."

음악에 관하여 챕터를 읽었다. 스트리밍 서비스가 없던 옛날의 음악 감상법(CD, LP, 라디오, 라이브 클럽 등)을 읽으며 비록 그 시절에 자라오진 않았지만, 그 시절의 음악은 어떤 의미였을지 어렴풋이 상상해보았다. 그리고 여백이 있는 음악은 싫증나지 않는다는 그의 말에 적극적으로 동의한다. 언젠가 나도 하루키처럼 음악에 관한 글을 써봐야지.

무라카미 하루키 소설을 워낙 좋아해서 기대를 많이 하고 읽었는데....읽고 나서 드는 몇 가지 생각은,

1. 나른한 봄날 향긋한 커피와 함께 혹은 조용히 눈이 내리는 날 따뜻한 코코아와 함께 시간 보내기 좋은 책이네. 하긴, 하루키 책엔 뭔가 모르게 그런 분위기와 어울리는 무언가가 있다.

2. 읽는 내내 재즈를 배경음악으로 틀어놓고 듣게 되었다. 조용하고 편안한 라운지 재즈와 잘 어울리는 글들이 제법 된다. 특히 빌리 홀리데이 이야기! 잡문집에서 나의 베스트를 꼽자면 바로 이 에세이다. “그러나 늘 그렇듯이, 내 머릿속에는 도무지 적절한 말이 떠오르지 않았다. 참으로 안타까운 일이었다. 왜냐하면 이 세상 이별의 대부분은 그대로 영원한 이별이 되기 때문이다. 그때 입 밖에 내지 못 한 말은 영원히 갈 곳을 잃어버리기 때문이다.” p.146

3. 아쉽게도 소설만큼의 감동은 느끼기 어려웠다. 아무래도 작가가 수십년에 걸쳐 이곳저곳에 기고한 서문, 문학상 수상소감, 서면 인터뷰들을 모은 글이라 그런 것 같기도 하다.

4. 책 전체를 통틀어 제일 가슴이 와 닿은 내용은 아래 구절인데, 아마 내가 하루키 소설을 아주 많이 좋아하는 이유를 조금은 이해할 수 있게 해 준 구절이기 때문인 것 같다.
“내가 쓴 소설이 말하고자 하는 바는 어느 정도 간단히 요약할 수 있습니다. 그것은 ‘사람들은 다들, 살면서 어떤 하나의 소중한 것을 찾아 헤매지만 그것을 찾아낼 수 있는 사람은 많지 않다. 그리고 혹시 운 좋게 찾았다고 해도 실제로 찾아낸 것의 대부분이 치명적으로 손상되어 있다. 그럼에도 우리는 계속해서 그것을 찾고 추구해야만 한다. 그렇지 않으면 살아가는 의미 자체가 사라져버리므로’라고 정리됩니다.” (p.303, 멀리까지 여행하는 방)

這本書,花了很長時間才看完。文章有些真的很精彩,有些卻讓我感到很納悶。首先很喜歡的是,安西水丸和和田誠這兩個朋友在書中穿插著。有聲聲相識的朋友,大家住在附近,閒時到樓下酒吧喝酒談天,大家互相欣賞,相聚的時候分享著有趣的事,是我很喜歡的。還有很都我都不知道如何記錄。《好的時候非常好》是村上寫給安西水丸女兒的結婚賀詞,很短,但一矢中的。「結婚這種事,好的時候非常。不太好的時候,我每次都想一點別的什麼事情。不過好的時候,非常好。」就這樣,都把我這幾年來的感受寫出來吧。另外一篇《來想一想風》引述 Truman Capote 的一句 "think of nothing things, think of wind" 「去想無關要的事吧。去想風。然後村上說著在希臘的一個小島上生活的時候,每天都在吹吹風,是很幸福的日子。「思考風這件事,並不是誰都辦得到的,也不是隨時隨地都能辦到的。人真的能思考風,是在人生中的一個很短時期。我這樣感覺。」我也好像村上先生一樣十分喜歡風。我最喜歡行的飛鵝山,最珍貴的時刻,是坐在山頂上端出來的大石上,享受著那山頂上的風。那是唯有在山頂才能感受到的風。和海邊的風不一樣,和冷氣機吹出來的風不一樣,和踏單車時製造出來的風不一樣,是只有在山頂上才能感受到的風。在山頂上呼吸著那空氣,感受著那陣微風,是我人生中數一數二的樂趣。在家中,在坐車時,我都盡量會打開著窗戶,因為只要感受著微風,看著天空,好像事情總有解決的辧法。另外還有《自己是什麼?(或美味的炸牡蠣吃法)》、《比莉.哈樂黛的故事》、 《草叢中的野鼠》都是我很喜歡的文章。有時不知道自己為什麼這麼喜歡看小說,有時會想不如多看一些能幫助我增長關於工作的智識不好嗎?但還是常常拿起小說來,可能是一個讓我能逃離現實世界煩惱的出口吧。村上先生的作品,常常都讓我能逃離得很遠,幸好書中的主角都會在最後回到完本的世界,也把我帶回來了。

長編小説にしろ短編小説にしろこういった雑文集にしろ、村上春樹を読んでいるときの僕の心境はいつも、はじめて彼の小説ダンスダンスダンスを読んだ88年と同じ。(多くの人がそう思っていると思うけど)僕の為の小説であり物語、である。とても親密な関係が保たれ続けた20数年。幸福な関係といえるかもしれない。

This compilation of Murakami's essays was a nice way to get to know the person behind the books. Some essays were less interesting than others, but it depends a lot on the subjects he deals with.

01/06/2020-10/06/2020 还真是一本很芜杂的册子啊,很多地方跳着读完。读了村上的几本杂文集,很强烈一种感受是, “村上” 像是一个品牌,品牌的特性是爱爵士,爱长跑,早起早睡,规律作息,自律者得自由。这本集子里有好些篇章提到了村上的长篇小说,但我好像始终提不起劲去读他的长篇。 另外,书里讲述关于东京地铁沙林毒气事件的文章里的这段话读来很有感触。 “不管日本如何在统计数字上夸耀经济繁荣,构成社会的普通百姓却很难真实感受到自己拥有相称的富足生活。就像沙漠上的海市蜃楼,不管如何接近,它都始终远远遁去。” 在我看来和国内,至少是我生活的上海这座繁荣的快节奏都市里,作为一个普通家庭出生,普通学历,普通工作,总而言之就是极其普通的人来说,真的就是这样。

人間「春樹」と作家「春樹」の境界はない。「個別者」としての生きる誠実さが入っている。
