A full-color manga series about the hilarious antics of the artist's rescue cats--accompanied by photos of real kitties in action!
Staring at you at night, putting their butts on your face, getting stuck in a box... Based on a popular blog, this full color manga shares the everyday silliness of living with cats.
My favorite part of this was that the author included a lot of photos of the cats themselves. On almost every page there was an accompanying image to go along with the comic strip. Overall, this reminds of many other comics about cats and pets in general. With a Dog AND a Cat, Every Day is Fun, Vol. 1 very much reminded me of this. When I first saw this book, I almost thought it was the same author. I preferred that one more than this one though. That may be because I love dogs, having three myself.
I might just need to give these kinds of slice of life stories a bit of a break though. It was relatively quick and easy to breeze through however some pages had too many words on a page. It didn't happen a lot but the fact I found myself skimming in a book like this wasn't the best sign. It was cute. The second half felt more interesting than the first because it had a little more uniqueness. I felt like I was actually getting to know the cats' personalities more. I think they could have started the book at a different point to really hook the reader but, I still managed to finish.
If you love cute anecdotal pet comics, then this serves that purpose!
This manga is about the author’s daily life with her cats and almost every page has illustrations and real pictures! Such a nice surprise! A unique, cozy, relatable and funny manga.
I thought it was okay. Rather than the usual manga format, it's a series of comics strips - these ones read from up to down rather than left to right like Western ones.
Very simplistic illustrations (the cats are cute) and I did like that they included pictures of the author's cats in the volume as well. The photos aren't necessarily great quality as they're printed on regular paper and fairly small (not to mention taken by the author's cell phone) but they're mostly clear.
I'm sure most cat owners can sympathise with the author as we see her pet's antics in the stories. I'm actually sad I didn't enjoy it more. Most of the stories were just... day-to-day, and weren't all that funny? I don't know the background, but It feels like maybe the author was keeping a day-to-day journal about her cats. I did find it amusing to see the attitude of 'Locally-made items (for a given value of local) being superior to foreign-made' as a universal attitude when the author buys a Japanese-made cat toy in the hopes it will last longer. And I enjoyed the stories about the author's parent's cats. Maybe because they could select the most interesting bits over a long time-period rather than trying to find material on the day-to-day like the rest of the comic.
It's cute, and I'll probably check out a few more volumes, but I'll stick to getting them from the library (especially with a $20 price tag/book). I think I'll give it a second re-read, then pass it on at work. __ Giving to Mary, 2024.
This was so cute! The author writes about her cats and the weird things they do. Also does pictures of the cats in real life. They are adorable. I enjoyed this a lot.
This is so cute and funny. I didn't know it was in color until I opened the book and I love that!!
This is so funny with the little stories of the authors cats. While reading this book I am laughing and I am saying that's what my cat dose! I love the art and the stories as well. I can't wait to read more about theses cute little fur balls.
I recognize scenes in here from my own life with my cat. While this was a cute manga, it's not something that I can see as an ongoing series. I chuckled at certain bits, but overall I was not engaged enough to read any of the panels intently.
such a cute little manga i read in one sitting! the whole book is just 4 panel comics about the authors cats and the funny stuff they do. i really wanted to read it because it has pictures of their real cats inside. super cute and funny and reminded me of my own cats bought from barnes
This is such a cute—and fun—collection about the daily shenanigans that the author’s cats get into!
Reading through these stories about all the silly things cats do gave me such a chuckle and put such a smile on my face. Also, it’s heartwarming to see that cats are universally silly—from Japan to America and beyond, cats remain silly. I love how relatable their ridiculousness is.
Also, in addition to the full-color shorts, this story includes actual pictures of the author’s cats throughout! I love that so much and really enjoyed getting to see the cats doing the silly things being depicted in the manga. The pictures of the cats—Ton and Shino—are such a nice bonus to this collection.
Definitely recommend for cat lovers and cat manga lovers alike—you will most certainly enjoy this cute, little heartwarming collection~
This was such an adorable read. It doesn't really have a plot since it really is just a bunch of weird/cute things the mangaka's cats do. But I loved it. I love the addition of real photos of her cats. It's perfect to read when you just need something easy and cute to distract you.
There's so much recognition in these little stories, it's so nice to see the silliness of cats in these comic strips. Additionally, feel a particular connection with the cats' story because the adoption circumstances were similar to how I ended up adopting my boys.
Anybody who has owned (or been owned by) cats knows just how cute and peculiar they can be. They wake you up at night, stare at walls, and demand nothing but the best. But we love them! And so does the internet.
Tamako Tamagoyama is lucky enough to have two cats to adore, and this is a collection of their silliest stories and moments.
Review:
My Cat is Such a Weirdo Vol. 1 is the perfect read for any cat lover out there. It's cute, endearing, and full of cats! What more can a girl ask for? This series gets bonus points for being unique and cozy. I'm always on the hunt for cozy reads.
I mentioned above that My Cat is Such a Weirdo Vol. 1 is unique, and I do mean that. There's this unique blend of drawings, photographs, and margin-based commentary that I haven't seen before. It reminds you (again and again) that these are real cats, and thus, the adventures they have really did happen.
That does help to make it cuter, I'll confess. Plus I enjoyed seeing real-life photos of the drawings. I'm all for cat photos.

A hilarious and relatable collection of comics perfect for cat-lovers. Tamako Tamagoyama shares the strange behaviors of her two rescue cats, Ton-chan and Shino-san.
Includes relatable adventures in living with a cat such as intense cat stares, nail cutting, navigating the dynamics of a two-cat household, converting husbands to cat dads, and constantly having a cat butt in your face.
Adorable full-color illustrations. Loved the humor. Throughout the book, the comics are paired with real photos of the author's cats up to their antics.
Such a fun, sweet, humorous book. Will definitely look out for the rest of the series.
This is one of my new favorite mangas EVER. PURE joy in these pages. The mangaka is truly a cat lover and that is apparent on every page, in every panel, and the reading experience was just so much fun. One of the best things about it is that she included real pictures of her cats doing the thing that the strip was about with little comments about it and it was just so wholesome and loving and perfect. If you or someone you know is a cat person this is a must-have.
DNF. I usually love these kinds of comics, but I felt that this particular one didn't add anything to the "comics about cats and those who love them" genre. All the jokes had been done before, and it's the same old. The story-telling about her cats were flat, and I soon grew disinterested in the cats. The art also wasn't a style that appealed to me. I could tell that they style is supposed to be cute, but I didn't like it.
I don't love cats this much to read a manga in which Tamagoyama puts sketches together of their cats doing weird, annoying, cute, funny things and then adding real pictures of the cats too.
It dragged on too long. I would have appreciated more of a Pusheen version with a story rather than these vignettes though full-color is always nice visually.
Really cute artstyle, and it feeds the cat loving parasite in me. I also can appreciate that the universal love for cats can be translated across languages, and that cat people will forever be crazy for their own cats 🤣
I love that the author chose to also have irl pics of their cats in this as well ( ・∇・)
Cat lovers will enjoy this manga... and the half a dozen other manga just like it that it does nothing different from. As someone who likes cats but doesn't consider herself a cat fanatic, these are just the same jokes I've heard over and over on social media and in other books just like this yet another time.
This slice-of-life comic about living with cats is really adorable, and the author artist's observations on her cats' daily antics are spot-on. A truly enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to Part 2.
p.s. the photos of Ton and Shino (the cats) made the book even better!
Super cute and very realistic cat comic. This is basically the mangaka's real experiences with her two adorable cats, plus a lot of real photos of those cats. If you've ever had or known a cat, you'll definitely recognize the behaviors here.
A funny, cute, and accurate depiction of cats. The creator depicts her cats in a way that makes the reader totally understand how weird cats can be. There are some quirks I didn't realize all cats have.
