A resident of Oklahoma, Rachel Vincent has a BA in English and an overactive imagination, and consistently finds the latter to be more practical. She shares her workspace with two black cats (Kaci and Nyx) and her # 1 fan. Rachel is older than she looks-seriously-and younger than she feels, but remains convinced that for every day she spends writing, one more day will be added to her lifespan.

Hey, guys, I'm not even sure how this got on Goodreads. "A Day in the Afterlife of Tod isn't a book. It isn't a novella. It's not even a short story. It's literally a blog entry (just a couple of paragraphs) I wrote years ago, which was later included as bonus content in the back of one of the novellas. Please don't read this expecting a plot of any kind. It wasn't commissioned. I wasn't paid for it. It went through no edits. It's just a couple of paragraphs I wrote for fun.

Also, the cover someone has loaded is not even kind of legitimate. That's the German cover for "Reaper." In the German editions, they spelled Tod's name with 2 Ds because Tod with one T means "death," which is confusing in that language. Though that's actually where I got his name.

I think this sums it up very well:

4:43 PM – I wonder if there’s any reasonable way to reinterpret the phrase “Get the hell out of here, Tod” to mean “Please stay and help us maintain the PG rating on this hormonal train wreck.” Maybe if I rearrange the letters…

What a treat. If you're a fan of the series, this is a must read. Enjoy.

Always the reaper, never the reaped.
Kinda surprised by the cover art since Tod spells his name with one d as shown in the title. But, I'll read anything in Tod's POV; he was my favorite character in Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series. The free short is offered on Mundie Mom's blog and gives us a look at a day in his afterlife.
It would take a miracle to keep me alive on the inside.

When I was a kid, my mom said that everyone gets one miracle. She said the trick is recognizing your miracle from a distance, so you’re ready when it arrives. I’m watching. I’m waiting.

I’m ready for my miracle.

"When I was a kid, my mom said that everyone gets one miracle. She said the trick is recognizing your own miracle from a distance, so you're ready when it arrives. I'm watching. I'm waiting. I'm ready for my miracle." - Tod

I'm so glad I read this after the 'Before I Wake' book!!! If I've read this as Rachel Vincent suggested which is before the 'If I Die' book, I would be really be sad for Tod. But since I read it when I did, I see Tod as helplessly or should I say hopelessly in-love with Kaylee and I can see the humor in his reaper stalker mode because I already saw them in their future lives!!! What Harmony said to her son was very insightful in a way, actually in Tod's way.

"[..]even those who do see death don’t see me. Because there is no me. Not anymore. Always the reaper, never the reaped. Soon that won’t bother me. Soon I won’t care. Emotional death follows physical death at a different pace for each reaper. I’ve put it off for more than two years, but it’s inevitable.

It would take a miracle to keep me alive on the inside.

How can you not love him. His soul is wreaking apart...He needs her. MAJOR WAKE UP CALL HERE

Poor Tod. Sometimes I think that he enjoys going in and out of Nash and Kaylee's life but all in all it sure seems like a sad existence. I hope that he gets his miracle, just not sure what that would be.

Bellissime otto pagine.
Tod è un personaggio molto più complesso di quanto sembri. La novella Reaper e questa mi hanno aiutata a guardare oltre l'ironia.
E' per questo che è il mio personaggio preferito.

It is short, very short. 8 pages short. Not even a novella. But it does give a view into Tod, it is from his POV. It really doesn't make sense if you are not familiar with the series.

A short read!

A literal day in a reaper's life...

It's included in Before I Wake as an extra. I saw the order on Goodreads and couldn't wait to read it until that book so I skipped ahead because it's Tod!

What a fun, bonus scene from Tod's point of view - taking us through his day.

Full of screams, death, souls, reapers, sacrifices and family.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romances.

These are like live tweets from Tod’s daily life, from the days before tweeting existed. Time stamped mini breakdowns of what he’s doing and the thoughts in his head. It hints he has a crush of Kaylee, but I think we all know it’s headed that way.

Disappointing Side Story

As much as I love the Soul Screamers series, A Day in the Afterlife of Tod didn’t quite hit the mark for me. While it was a short read, I was hoping it would offer some new insights into Tod’s character or advance the plot in a meaningful way, but it felt more like an unnecessary side story.

The biggest issue for me was that the novella didn’t feel like it added much to the overall arc of the series. It was nice to revisit Tod, especially since he’s one of the more complex characters in the Soul Screamers world, but the story lacked the depth and tension I’ve come to expect from Rachel Vincent’s writing. The plot was straightforward and didn’t offer much in terms of character development or growth. It felt like a filler rather than an integral part of the story.

While the writing was still solid, I didn’t feel as invested in Tod’s journey this time around. The stakes didn’t feel high, and I didn’t connect with the emotional beats in the way I wanted to. Fans of Tod might enjoy the novella for a quick return to his world, but overall, it didn’t live up to the series' standards.

For those looking for more from the Soul Screamers series, this is a decent addition but ultimately forgettable.

So, yes it was too short, but it works. You already love Tod when you read this, so after this brief glimpse of his feelings never explicitly told ,but very well writen so you can guess them, it makes you like him even more.I liked Nash, He messed up, I can forgive him as a char acter, but the truth I really want Kaylee with Tod, dont know how that could be or whatever, but it feels rhight. After all that has happened Nash and Kaylee dont feel right anymore, they worked before. How to make it work with so much story between them, and Tod... really rooting for him.I simply love the reaper.
