a solid school novel, tackles important themes of drug abuse, violence, classism etc. in a simple manner that doesn't overwhelm the reader. the characters are decent and well rounded, generally falling into clear divisions of 'good' and bad', which is true of most novels aimed at 12 year old school kids. the female lead was a tad manic-dream-pixie girl and if my memory serves me correctly it would struggle to pass the bechdel, but as far as novels i read in primary school go, this was one of the better ones.
I read this book when i was twelve and i honestly loved it ! Since i was so young this book seemed quite complex and grown up and so i felt compelled to understand it.Though it deals with some serious topics eg. drugs, crime and violence, it does so in a way that is easy for a person of any age group to understand and realise the message that Peter Gunning to trying to portray. This book shows the effects of the "gangland" lifestyle on the younger generation. The charecters are realistic and the plot runs at a steady pace and is easy to follow.
I think the book was the best book i have ever read it made me feel like i was there waching all the action. I really wished there was another 100 of the Reaching The heights series so i can find out what happenes to them will Tosh ever meet Aisling again will Naylor date Pauline thats what i want to know.
You should all read this book ASAP if you don't your life shall never be full-filled.

I loved it. Looked a bit boring at first. First few chapters weren't great but I really did like it. It's the kind of book where you just NEVER want to stop reading, and you never know what's going to happen next. Contains : Violence :) Recommended to anyone!
