Beautiful painted art but boring as hell if you're not receptive to japanese spirituality (I'm not in case you're asking).
Overwritten either way, with confusing storytelling. Another proof that great illustrators don't necessarily make great writers.

Não percebi naaaaada desta história. Os meus gostos pessoais no que a novelas gráficas diz respeito não passam muito por histórias de super-heróis, salvo raras excepções. Ao folhear este livro e ao ver as ilustrações, pensei por momentos que ele iria fazer parte dessa lista de raras excepções... Mas não foi o caso... Dou 2 estrelas por causa das ilustrações, mas quanto ao argumento, confuso e até ininteligível...

Možda je vrijeme jedna velika rijeka. Iskrcavamo se na raznim obalama, a ona uvijek teče iza nas. Samo moraš naći put natrag do rijeke. Ima ih puno. Izaberi svoj brod.

Ajme, koliko volim Georgea Pratta i njegove ilustracije - nevjerojatno prekrasno. Jest da su mu knjige uvijek lake na priči i više zaviru u duhovnost i osjećaje, pa je sve nekako zbrda-zdola što se tiče geografije i kronologije, a "događa li se ovo stvarno?" je pitanje koje navire svakih par stranica, ali atmosfera njegovih ilustracija, kao i poetičan dijalog/naracija stvaraju meditativan osjećaj tijekom čitanja i samo poželiš gledati u određene slike, nikad ne odvraćajući pogled. Ova priča je još k tome smještena u Edo period Japana pa ima izlike da bude toliko apstraktna i duhovna, a umjetnost ondašnjeg vremena i prostora vjerno je dočarana, kao i kultura, s mnogim referencama na budizam i zen općenito, uključujući ceremoniju čaja u samu radnju, kao i naslovni "netsuke", minijaturne skulpture koje Logan izrađuje i koje mu pomažu da sagleda u sebe i pobijedi traume iz svoje prošlosti - svojevrsno hodočašće kroz najvažnije događaje iz njegova života, uglavnom vezani uz Mariko, njegovu najveću ljubav čija preuranjena smrt ga zapravo i potiče na ovaj mukotrpan put kako bi se mogao osloboditi njezina utjecaja, odnosno nastaviti naprijed, bez osvrtanja na ono što je bilo i moglo biti. To je i sveukupna tema djela - htjeti nastaviti živjeti unatoč svemu što te sputava u tom naumu. Zato je posljednja slika Wolverinea kako odlazi iz konstantno snježnog i ledenog krajolika, kakav je prisutan tijekom cijele priče i predstavlja stalnu smrtnu opasnost, u onaj zeleniji, gdje se snijeg jedva još drži za nekolicinu stijena, a vjetrom nošene latice cvjetova okružuju njegovu pojavu te najavljuju proljeće - ne samo izvanjski, već i u njegovu unutarnjem svijetu - toliko upečatljiva jer najavljuje takva, mirna i bolja, vremena i za svakog čitatelja.

Srce je dobra stvarčica. Možda i najbolja. Maleno, a čvrsto. Poanta je da treba samo sjesti i uživati u vožnji.

I feel like this was a story that had a lot of promise but there was a lot holding it back. The fun part of Wolverine used to be that he was an outsider in Japan looking for peace. There is a lot of jumping around, confusing panels and nothing is ever really explained clearly. There are elements of attempted mystery, spirituality and sacrifice that all fall flat due to characters that pop up suddenly from nowhere, cheapened elements of a half story bouncing from past to present to other past and back again. The characters themselves feel hallow and you only have a vague sense of what any of them want, which especially by the end of this miniature series only serves to drive the story to a baffling end. You're supposed to feel happy and relieved for the characters but all it winds up feeling like is a waste of time.

It might be someone else's cup of tea but for someone who liked the charm of and wit of a 90's styled Wolverine, this one will honestly make you question just how much Marvel has lost their touch over the years.

Me gustó la idea del estilo artístico y el formato en que es presentada la historia, de verdad que visualmente es una joya y le sienta demasiado bien a la época en que transcurre y a los personajes que aparecen.

La narrativa no es nada del otro mundo, está linda y tiene mensajes positivos pero siento que es una historia de tantas de Logan recurriendo a su pasado y teniendo una aventura en el proceso, llevándose una enseñanza de ello.

Creo que se vuelve casi como un videojuego en el sentido de que se le brindan objetivos a conseguir para completar el ciclo. Es una linda historia, más nada extraordinario, destaca muchísimo por su apartado visual.

A bit hard to follow but MAN this art is beautiful. Going into this blind I was sort of expecting this to have a similar storyline as Daredevil: Vision Quest, which also has watercolor illustrations and a Wolverine cameo.
Also this got me going on a wikipedia search of what Netsuke are and visually they remind me of Zuni Fetishes from where I live, which is cool

Piacevole sorpresa sugli scaffali della biblioteca: a quanto pare in occasione dell'imminente Fumetti in TV 2009 è stata inaugurata anche una sezione di fumetti & graphic novels.
Oltretutto questo volume mi era del tutto sfuggito all'epoca.
Come giustamente diceva qualcun altro, avventura tra l'onirico & il samuraio (ergo fuori continuity, sia detto per chi si preoccupa di queste cose), presenta Wolvie con le basette perennemente congelate & gli artigli troppo lunghi.
Mi ha colpito in particolare la conoscenza che Pratt sfoggia (forse in maniera un po' smaccata) delle tradizioni del Giappone feudale.
Assolutamente strepitosi i suoi disegni, dipinti con quella che a me sembra una tecnica mista ma rigorosamente 'analogica': acquerelli, tempere...
Non ho invece ben capito cosa c'entra Claremont in tutto il progetto, a prescindere dai casuali incontri a Brooklyn.

Naturalmente l'ho finito il giorno stesso in cui l'ho prelevato dallo scaffale, ma cercherò di tenerlo il più a lungo possibile, se non altro per poter sfogliare ancora le splendide tavole.

I'd say: the script IS acceptable. But the images are absolutely GENIUS. They are telling the real story. Not marvelwise. Check it out for yourself!
