Rabbi Haber recounts his extraordinary experiences, from his service as Air Force Chaplain stationed in Alaska, through his current position as Chabad Rabbi on the Golan Heights.
With humor and good wit Haber relates the challenges of keeping Yiddishkeit alive in the frozen wilderness, and of keeping the morale high in the Golan Heights, making for an exceptional, inspirational story for all.
I loved reading this book, laughed, smiled and was happy and inspired all the way through it. Rabbi Yisroel Haber is an Orthodox Rabbi and Air Force Chaplain who was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage Alaska. He and his young wife, Brooklynites, feel like they are going to the end of the world. But with a positive attitude, sense of humor and a ton of hard work they are tremendously successful in finding and taking care of the Jews of Alaska. First order of business was building Alaska's 1st mikveh. Rabbi Haber is a great story teller and makes you feel right at home as a reader. He is very entertaining and has such strength of character and dedication to Yiddishkeit. His story is full of the most amazing coincidences and miracles. Although he doesn't grow up a Lubavitcher he eventually becomes a shaliach of the Rebbe in the Golan Heights and how this comes about is also part of the book. I also know some of the people he talks about in his book and that was a nice feeling.
