Born of the Elements is the second of two novels that, together, make up the third installment of the Zen Chronicles. Either Children of Destiny book can be read first, and each takes place during the same time period as the other.

Born of the Elements follows Zen of Desmond as he continues to learn more about himself and the things he is capable of. While in the midst of a personal crisis, the Lord of Desmond must keep his focus on the quest to find the Gems of Powers. As he does so, he will make several new allies and a few new enemies; all of which will play their own part in Zen's greater story.

The book was amazing it continued the quest of Zen and his companions in an astonishing way the detail to actions and surroundings and emotions of the characters was just stunning can't wait to read the highborne king would have finished the book earlier but life got in the way sadly but with my greatest love this book was amazing

Children of Destiny: Born of the Elements finds the young mage Zen in the Dwarven kingdom of Helmdar trying to find a way to understand the strange dreams and burning illness that threatens to consume him and everything around him. With the aid of Beswick and James, a consciousness imprinted on his cobalt Gem of Power, he begins to take the steps necessary to discover himself and his destiny. Becoming a mastersmith has always been his dream, but in the days following his test Zen’s forced to face the problems he sought to forget.

A classic coming of age story, Children of Destiny allows us to witness the growth of a boy into a man as Zen struggles with the pressure of being a head of state and elementborn while trying to find the remaining Gems of Power. With treachery threatening a fragile peace, Zen’s forced to think beyond what he believes and accept the world around him as being what it truly is.
