My Meditation on the Gospel

Rate this book
"My Meditation on the Gospel" offers short but fruitful reflections on the life and teachings of Christ. "Let us meditate on the Gospels," urges Pope John XXIII. "Amidst the confusion of so many human words, the Gospel is the only voice that enlightens, draws, comforts, quenches thirst."

This book must be read not only with the head but with the heart. We must think and pray. To understand the Gospel fully, we must live the Gospel. To learn Christ we must live Christ. (Foreword)

I've had this little gem on my shelves forever but never actually opened it until last year. It's one of those old-fashioned looking-Catholic books which shouldn't fall into that category. It probably needs to be republished in a more modern format so as to appeal to readers unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the 1962/pre-Vatican II style of spirituality. It really isn't; it's timeless. The book delivers what the title claims: a personal meditation on the Gospel. The Gospel stories come from all four evangelical accounts and are followed by a short meditation and meditative prayer. There is scriptural cross-referencing, black and white sketches, and a virtue associated with each story. It will work with any Liturgical year. Inspirational and insightful. This was what they used before we had Magnificat or Word Among Us.

Highly recommended.
